I've met ten year olds with better understandings of human genetics. Seriously, we are not interested in your thoughts. Kindly remove yourself from the discussion.

I've actually sent several inquiries about that sort of thing, including complaints that the only character that was actually ("sort of", it was never explicitly stated) characterized as gay was a programmed stereotype. Quite disappointing, really.
Indeed, enough is enough. Take your leave.
That's a little bit ridiculous man >_> how would you know if a character was gay or not unless each character stated his name and sexual orientation upon introductions...

The law of attraction is usually physical in the first place. So to say I love this person for who they are is *** considering all you wanna do was be gay together.

Can I have a I love vagina day? Every day is I love Vagina Day, even gay pride since woman can be gay too, thats not just a porn thing.
It's not really the same thing though, there isn't marches and events celebrating straight sexual orientation and letting the world know about it. Last I checked there is no where where being straight could get you disowned by your family, beaten, ousted by your "friends" or even executed in a few countries either.
As I said there are some places where it is not neccessary, I don't really think it's all that neccessary here and have never been to it. But here isn't everywhere, our own back yards arn't the world and while acceptance is on the rise it doesn't quite have it's own momentum yet. Pride is simply a way to get straight people out partying with gay people and realizing the difference is minimal.
As for straight people not letting the world know their sexual orientation I don't even know where to start on. There may not be a parade but it is there in every aspect of everyday life.
Edit: I'm sorry that there is no good way to explain this, it is about the same as if you were to try and explain to a woman what it is like to get kicked in the nuts. You can tell them it hurts alot but that deffinetly is not an accurate explantion of the whole thing.

"Law of attraction", cool story bro, tell me more.
@Sagittario, as I stated, I obviously don't know definitively, but I'd say it was pretty clear what they were doing with Mayakov. It actually doesn't matter whether or not I am correct, because creating a character that embodies a ton of gay stereotypes without actually permitting non-heterosexual characters is really disappointing regardless.

There's a big difference between ostentation and the need to not hide. Lots of people say "we don't care if you're gay", maybe you don't, but many do. If two gay people here kiss in public people pulls out maces and beat them, that seems like they care to me. It is not boasting.

Honestly I don't feel like my character is straight, he is as gay as I am. I'm not sure where you are coming from exactly with all the characters being straight, maybe in CS but we as individuals with our own characters can still surely say we are xyz.

That's because being straight is normal, but so is being gay normal, obviously it's not accepted by everyone as normal so I get where you are coming from, but in my eyes there should be no need for segregation between the two to the point that parties feel the need to have such events, clearly in this day and age there still is though.

Alright, just let me know when you've been made to feel like less of a human being because of your heterosexuality.
I'll be waiting.

There's the quest of the three guys that become gay for the potion in AU(which was very funny imho)and Lekho hints to be bi if you're character is male with his flirtarious behaviour(or just a manslut, whichever interpretation you like more). Mayakov is blatantly gay, but it's just a comical character, I don't give it much weight.

Panini put it very well, it's really up to interpretation. Mayakov is a personality before a stereotype. Nearly all the gay guys I have work with or socialise with are just like your average joe guys and alot of the time I would not even know they were gay, so to complain they are not permitting non-heterosexual characters is kind of an argument built of sand if the only interpretation of a gay character is a flamboyant stereotype.

Forgot about those. Maybe I just look at this sort of thing more seriously, but I don't see how using my sexuality as a prop or comedy routine is amusing or to be taken lightly.
I'm obviously not going to cause a ***storm, but it does disappoint me.

Yeh lol actually come to think of it there have been several moments on FFXI where I would read a line of dialogue then kind of double take and be like ...wait does he mean what I think he does >_>

Don't take it personally, look at television for instance, there are plenty of over the top flamboyant gay personalities, one that springs to mind is that dude from pineapple dance studios lol what's his name... Louis Spence I think? He has to be the most ridiculously camp man I have ever seen and he's always very touchy feely in interviews and everything but it's so funny. They are just exaggerated personalities for fun. Imagine if every gay guy was like that, the world would be in chaos >_>

So many jokes are made about sexuality, "that's what she said" etc all the time. Personally I find them really funny and it depends on context because most people telling them aren't doing it to gay or straight bash, it's just a sex joke.

The media loves flamboyant camp gay men, I don't think it's always right to only have that as it suggests only that type of persona is accepted/successful, tbh I don't think sexuality should even matter that much it is such a tiny detail in the grand scheme of things. My sex life is just one aspect of what completes me and tbh I'd rather give greater to weight to something else other than where my *** goes.

Why should I not take it personally? When a gay character exists, it's almost certain that they are the gay character. Everything about them is gay, from gay waking up in the morning, to gay driving the car, gay working, etc. etc.. It's nobody's "fault", but that's how it's being written in at the moment. And your notion that I should like/accept that is frankly ridiculous to me.
Slowly, the media is beginning to include characters that do (gasp) every day normal people things and then also happen to have a *** sexuality, but it's not something I see very often.

You are complaining about a lack of gay characters though but you just said yourself that gay people are average people doing average things just like anybody else, so who's to say there are not lots of gay characters? Do they have to be over the top enthusiastic and blatantly camp to be gay? You just complained about this very issue.

/eats popcorn, gayly, over-exaggerated, and highly unlikely for others amusement.
This isn't for the discussion of people's opinions on such a heated topic, just an honest question.
Since the ffxiah community has a pretty diverse community, was honestly just curious if gay rights was as big of an issue in England/Germany/Europe in general as it is over here in the states. Just seems like at least once a day there is something about it on national news somewhere over here, about the same across the Atlantic?
