I'm sorry you see some connection with my perception of the Chinese government not being a strong ally like our western European allies and my saying self-loathing Americans shouldn't complain about problems they help to perpetuate. There really isn't one though.

You're arguing semantics because I thought the China remark was silly because we have much more in common with western European countries/Canada/Australia than we ever will with a nation that has an atrocious human rights record. Furthermore it's silly to pretend that saying China is such a great ally will change our relationship in any way. Hate to break it to you but China needs America as much as America needs it. America is their largest trading partner.

i think it's more about how Bush didn't go out and say "We're going to skullfuck them for their oil" instead he said we're gonna go to war for freedom and liberty etc.

That goes without saying. In 50 years: you, your children, and your grandchildren will be saying how China is the great evil in the world. Still doesn't change much as far as who we are declaring to be our great allies. We still have little in common with China. They're not going to try to use our remarks about who our allies are determine whether or not trading with us is in their best interest. There's nothing to be gained by sucking up to China.

The basis of modern day Chinese xenophobia is the eventual realization everyone comes to that China will be the world's greatest superpower. I did not state anywhere in my post that the U.S. would be on top forever as only the delusion would think so. It's already accepted the world over that this century is going to be China's century.

I've never read one post on this site that even discusses what the Chinese people are like. It would be ridiculous to post about Chinese people violating their own human rights rather than their government. There's still no parallel between my saying Americans shouldn't make self-loathing posts and the Chinese government is not one of our greatest allies and does not share the western values we have.

Among those being human rights themselves. Not just as it pertains to everyday living but to how they react when their is a movement for reform in their country. In western countries like America we would never use our military to subjugate civil unrest. I can never imagine a day when we have tanks rolling through the streets of New York to combat protesters.
