I think the number of people that leave their chars logged in near 24/7 even if they only play a few hours a day is higher than ever and a strangely high proportion of players on FFXI vs other mmos.
Of course many are afk MLing every day too, and the game is designed to encourage that so... I would bet it's lower in FFXI than in FFXIV, but I have zero way to prove that (other than that they had to implement AFK kicking for Endwalker/Dawntrail and didn't ever do that for XI that I know of?)
agree on other MMOs though

For the last decade if anyone thought ffxi, the immediate second thought, good or bad, was asura. (Mostly bad)

Leaving the flagship server closed Late to the party here, but: Bahamut is server ID #1, at least from an AH perspective. Internally to SE, if anything is the "flagship", it's Bahamut.
Lakshmi is the best server anyway, but all y'all can stay the *** off of it

Quite honestly, I think this is why. XI allows you to remain online without penalty or auto disconnect, and the login system is a slog. Combine that, you end up with people never logging off.

Yeah, folks will believe anything. If there was a way to mess with the POL UI to support more then four per session, someone from the Windower dev team would of come up with a workaround years ago. They are already in the memory space and can modify all sorts of stuff on-the-fly there.

they just don't have that analog feel anymore.
Same with me. Used to love Alfa Roneos back in the day. Drove the new-ish Giulia and the thing is so packed with electronics it felt more like a Tesla than an Alfa.
Meanwhile companies like Alfetta take the same engine from the Giulia and stuff in in an old GTO body with new suspension and parts and it drives like a dream.
Sad really.

The M96 scares me. My 2.5 is the one that has the least problems. Way less common IMS failures (no stupid single row bearing on the 2.5) and no coated pistons that cause bore scoring. I wouldn't buy a M96 car just because those motors still cost $7k-$13k.
Most M96 rebuilds are 20k+ now. Friend of mine is a builder and on average it's around 22-25k. LN is also behind about 6+ months on machining, so you are without the car a while. If you get one from Slakker I think it's around 25k-ish for the motor alone and FSI starts at 35k.
I would've never bought one if I had known about the clusterfuck of issues. The IMSB can be solved with a replacement pretty easily, but the bore scoring in the later motors, head cracking in the earlier ones, water pump failures, bearing failures, etc are all kindof ridiculous. I had a rebuild done and 6 months later the motor spun 3 bearings, no overrevs or anything.
I've had both Caymans and several 911s. My favorite of all of them are the air cooled cars especially from the Carrera 3.0 up to 964. After that, I like the way the 996s drive, but I wouldn't recommend owning one, same with the 997s. The Cayman I had was my favorite of the water cooled generation and the 2.7 in the base models didn't have any of the issues the other motors did. The 996s have more grunt to them and I like the way they drive a lot, but they are more work and a lot bigger feeling.
I'm ditching Porsche land. I can't afford it anymore. The 996 killed it for me (I have a 1982 SC also), but it's just too much work to keep them running. At least on the SC I can do most of it myself, but the head studs are a ticking time bomb and I'm about to pass that off on someone else.
Dang, sorry to hear all that. My 986 has been flawless mechanically for the past 3 years and maybe 15k miles. I've been slowly replacing all the suspension and it's been riding better and better.
I think my problem going forward with cars is... I don't like modern cars from a driver experience point of view. I drove a C8 Corvette last year at our annual ride-n-drive event. Amazing car, fast, capable, and the most boring driving experience I've ever had. It feels like playing a PC game on a cheap steering wheel setup. Zero feedback from steering, brakes, or accelleration. I got back into my 986 from that event and the entire drive home thought that not one of those cars gave me a driving experience like this. I drove a C8, CT5-V, Porsche Taycan, Lucid Air, and a bunch of other non-sports car EV stuff. Even when I test drove a 718 Boxster, they just don't have that analog feel anymore.

I remember reading the patch notes , having prelogged outside the cauldron because i felt it was the right zone , then rushing to BG to tell everyone id gotten it. 15 or so mins after the patch was live i had the highest blacksmithing in the world for an hour ish.
https://www.ffxiah.com/item/10949/smithys-torque
I also will never forget the 1st Ebody -1 i crafted , had lived in SSG for a solid 3 months killing for southern pearls. everyone gathered nailed the 1/1 hq we lost it , hit the 2nd one and insta funded my relic H2H. I think i went on to make 4-5 total as they dropped under 99m or w/e the bazaar cap was. Leveling into warrior with ebody+1 and a ridil was *** silly and juiced.

But it could be that AND other things as well, why not?
Not at the same time. No way they'd do that.

But it could just as well be +5s with drops from Omega/Ultima to upgrade them. Absolutely.
It could be both, I really really doubt that new armors sets (with the model of the old ones) from Ultima and Omega are NOT coming. I could bet on them coming.
But it could be that AND other things as well, why not?

Not so much wierd, but i've always personally found all the "Moon Phase" gear to be quite intresting. Particularly because they work on 80 hour cycles for them to be useful. So on very specific hours, they were peak (for their time) but then every other time, less so.
Intrestingly, some of the rarest items in 11's history are also Moon Phase items.

This club it's other variants are now only avaliable via gobby box, And ran from a 2002 Event. The actual buff too my knowledge is an enspell effect. (Light or Dark dependent on which phase)
Geomancer has the highest dagger skill of any of the jobs on this, and the rest of them are D or E.
To my knowledge, Dagger usage on those classes specifically has always been something of an Idea that's been flirted with. (Malevolence)
But, I believe the dagger is a throwback to an older, Dagger from 75 era.

Far fewer are on 24/7 than people pretend is the case. The point remains though, XI servers are multi regional and so concurrent players is not accurate for this game specifically.
If you check player numbers at US prime time you're probably seeing 70-75% of active player numbers. There are quite a lot of JP on Asura, and you don't ever see them if you have a normal schedule in the US.

SE is on record saying "new armor" is coming. Probably Ultima/Omega sets, yes. Upgrading existing armor to ilvl is right out of their playbook.
But it could just as well be +5s with drops from Omega/Ultima to upgrade them.

You're not considering we're getting Ultima and Omega likely before the end of the year, and very likely other long term purposes for Matters as well.
Wether all of that will be worth it or not, we'll have time to judge when it gets released of course.

I did that BC with other galkas! XD I don't remember if we were in 6 or less, but we did win the BC, multiple times!
I also remember loving the lv ~30 Galka specific set when levelling mage jobs!

Back then where the amount of power you got from gear was incredibly smaller and, as a consequence, the % of power coming from base stats was way more relevant... in such an age having race specific gear that were trying to boost the weak points of every race (which back then was a bigger difference than it is today) was, I dunno, I'm not sure I would call it good game design but it certainly wasn't "weird" or "useless" given that era's standards and meta.
Oh totally. Definitely, yes. I editted my post to reflect that they're useless by today's standards. But, if I were in my peak Try-Hard mode of playing FFXI at that level, I would have sought after 5 other Elvaans to win those earrings too.

a 20 singing skill and 19 wind skill isn't going to be reaching cap as easily as you guys are making out.
I daresay the solution to this is skilling up, rather than obsessing about skill+ gear. 20 more skill will also not cap a character in this situation, after all.

Remember guys.
Knowledge is powa.
Why I say that?
Because yesterday my playthrough was going way smoother than usual, scoring like 6 gamedays in matter of 3h, what is insane considering how ***is RNG here.
But then I noticed a very very easy task rewards immensely disproportional rewards for the effort. And if I had done this task back in the very first days, I would speed up a whole lot my progression, what would result in a faster playthrough.
So here Im, erasing the marvelous 6 gamedays I recorded yesterday, and back to day 2 in game, with this new info that can potentially make for a more optimized run.
And this is basically why Ive been struggling this past months trying to find the sweet spot on progression.
You never learn things beforehand, or never noticed how rewarding some detours can be.

Is Adhemar (head, body and hands) still the best option for a standard TP set (where -DT is not heavily required, in which case I'll just aim for Malignance)?
