There should really be a note that the yztarg does beastruction, that ***is trashy. A whole *** minute naked. Anyone newer than 10 years probably never even heard of beastruction.
Rafflesia has short range charm too.
The only dangers a soloer with trusts would be cause for concern.

You are the wrong *** to be asking that question. lol You sure about that?
Their own quote literally says
“ Players will be able to acquire items that are even more powerful than ambuscade equipment and reforge them to be equivalent to Malignance gear”
We are not at the reforge stage, so only the bold applies, and this gear is not more powerful than ambuscade equipment.

Defense isn't dps and therefor doesn't count
Oh come on. It's 2026, leave glass cannon DPS sets in the past where they belong.
Lower duration(or avoidance) of debuffs like stun, paralyze, amnesia, etc. are a direct DPS increase. Same with DT, 'cause, y'know, not getting one shot by a TP move is better for your DPS than the alternative.
Remember that bridge gear character is not fighting ***where they need to turtle up in 50% DT to survive. Bridge gear is farming Sheol A/B poorly, is doing Sortie top floor for caskets and maybe Ghatjot, is doing wave 1 dyna-D, is doing Omen, is doing V0 Gaol. Nothing here is stomping you out for not having 50% DT full time. Nothing theyre fighting is going to punish them with death for getting caught with their pants down and WSing in 5% DT. You cant even bring up the MEVA argument because these sets have pretty terrible MEVA.
No one is doing V15++ bosses, basement Sortie, Wave 2/3 dynamis in this gear.

Their own quote literally says
“Players will be able to acquire items that are even more powerful than ambuscade equipment and reforge them to be equivalent to Malignance gear”
Reading comprehension. "Will be able to" does not implicitly state or imply that this starts on day one. It just means that at some point in the reforging process, the gear will improve to a level that is better than ambuscade and comparable to malignance.
I don't understand how people aren't connecting the reforging process to the gear becoming stronger. Maybe at the end when people see the whole thing it will make sense, but the bridge is starting at fresh 99 and going to on par with malignance.

I'm sorry but no. What they wrote imply, that those items will be better than Ambuscade at the moment of obtaining them, before reforge. The only thing that you could try to argue defensively here would be, that they have never said Ambuscade +2, they could mean NQ Ambuscade :)

When Square Enix says something, you have to take it with a single atom ...of a single grain of salt. The new NM gear is in-fact better than NQ (not +1/+2) Ambuscade gear. Also, it is clear to me that the (some undisclosed) reforge process is supposed to make them better. How? Who the *** knows?
If you want to grab your pitchforks about something, look at the re-skinned Monstrosity page (which hasn't changed in ~10-12 years?):
We're sitting here arguing about job adjustments, when we could be fulfilling those roles as different monsters. Let me do Sortie as Kirin, Byakko, Sandworm, the Dragon Quest slimes! ...a *** rabbit... There's so much potential. I'm so mad, right now.
By Seun 2026-08-16 11:57:00
I don't understand why people want to have a semantics argument over a translation. You see the first step of the process, yet you can't rationalize how the rest of it plays out?
GetHelp is right, there's some serious density in here.

Make Monstrosity Great Again! Easily the system with the most unrecognized potential, even at inception there was no reward, but the system is sound and undeniably fun.

I don't know if it's density or just an overwhelming desire to be unhappy with anything SE does. Nobody is forcing you to stay engaged with the game if you hate it so much.
Their direction is obviously working. Player numbers have been actually growing over the last year after a very long slow bleed. They don't want those new players to feel like they've finished the game after completing RoV. They also don't want them to leech Odyssey and skip over months of content that will give them reasons to stay subbed.
This gear isn't for people with R20+ Odyssey gear, Empyrean+3, and Limbus progress. It's for them. They don't necessarily see things the same way you do.
By kaffy 2026-08-16 12:27:26
A typical new player runs through the story with trusts, never has any need to interact with a single human player if they don't want to, and then hits a brick wall with zero idea how to proceed and no experience playing with others. I have no doubt the influx of players is real, but the community is heavily divided between casual tourists and hardcore lifers. Their goals have little to nothing in common.

Did Thorny just advocate for why making gaol go v0 right to v15 is a bad idea? Lol

To add onto that, if you set aside all the nitpicking about how valuable the gear is as progression, think for a second about how valuable it is to the gameplay loop.
If you spend a month or two on the gap between ambuscade and malignance, that's a month or two you have to make friends around your level that you can bring into the harder content when you get there. Spending long periods of time camping a NM builds the habit of running the game in the background, which increases your availability for messages and sporadic chats. You also have chances to meet other people around your level who also want the NM. There's no penalty for teaming up, so you're much more likely to talk to them.
If you jump straight up, you don't have those opportunities.
Did Thorny just advocate for why making gaol go v0 right to v15 is a bad idea? Lol I swear you and Dodik are absolutely ****ing retards with your gaol rank obsession. How many times have you brought this ***up? All content is not the same. A progression path that spans ~10 different events with varied reward structures, zones, and interfaces is extremely valuable. Killing the same exact monster with 20 more VIT and a couple more defense isn't. It's not hypocritical to treat them differently in regards to skipping, because they are fundamentally different things.
Going ambuscade->Nyame: Bad. Going Sortie/Limbus->V15~20 instead of Sortie/Limbus->V0: Fine. You don't have to agree, but it doesn't have to come into every topic because you think you found some gotcha by willingly ignoring context.

So forgive me for being confused how the guy who is strongly advocating for removing v1-14 will also say this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Someone who isn't ready for V15~V20 doesn't have to go to V15~V20 just because it's available.
I really don't understand why you need me to agree with you on this. Between you and Dodik, you've dragged it back up at least 5 times using false equivalency to try to show.. what exactly? That my opinion was wrong weeks ago? It's insane.
By kaffy 2026-08-16 12:42:00
I agree with that, lottery NMs are quintessential FFXI and get you out in the world in zones you may have ignored or not explored fully. Many of my fondest memories are getting claim or finally getting a drop.
I dunno that any of this gear is on par with something like Peacock Charm, O Kote, etc. but of all the new catch up things I don't have much issue with this beyond the fact that to me they are spreading themselves thin with a bunch of low effort crap to try to retain these new players.
I'd rather see a more focused effort to finish the things they have already started and get them right, and maybe not step on vet's toes quite so much while chasing these new players who statistically aren't likely to stick around for nearly as long.

You get the whole set in 4-5 hours as long as the lotto nm plays nice and you bounce back and forth per 20 minute timed grabbing keys.
It's really not a community building month long excursion. It's a do it over the weekend and forget about it for a year thing.
By Dodik 2026-08-16 12:46:25
For the avoidance of doubt:
Comparing same jobs sets for the dds:
Ruwa head vs Flamma head: Meva +17, dt -6
Ruwa body vs Flamma body: Meva +13, dt -9
Ruwa hands vs Flamma hands, Meva +6, dt -7, store tp +1
Ruwa legs vs Flamma legs, meva +16, dt -7,
Ruwa feet vs Flamma feet, meva +16, dt-4
All in favour of ruwa. Defensively the ruwa set is much better. Only the hands approach flamma for TP-ing though.
A new player is better served just farming the ruwa set and eating the slight dps drop. It's also better for WS and can be an all-in-one.
I'm glad others mentioned the defensive properties this time - proud of you guys.
No, a new player doesn't have to trek through mud and farm Ambu then farm UNM with ambu gear then farm Escha with ambu + unm gear then finally farm Ruwa then then finally farm Odyssey.
You might like to waste time farming gear just to put it on a slip then forget it, others might not.
Your way of playing is not the only way nor the right way for anyone else. Stop it with that nonsense.
And yes, if someone both argues for convoluted progression paths while also arguing to abolish other progression paths, that is hypocrisy and it will be pointed out.

A new player is better served losing the 45 day wait and going straight to nyame R0 and deleting half the games armor
Bonus, they start the content they're supposed to start immediately and their progress forward becomes clear instead of guessing what to do next.
double bonus, they have the good enough gear to be able to do it.
(they ain't gonna do that, obviously)

It's basically harassment to drag the same topic up every two days because you were upset I didn't agree with you. You can try to make a case that it's hypocritical, but I think there are differences. You obviously don't agree with me; that is fine. I don't need to hear about and defend it every time there's any conversation about progression. I'm going to take a break from the site.

This is a good idea. Some people get so hung up on the same thing that they believe by repeating themselves over and over that people will agree, even when it makes little sense.
100% agreed with others saying what I was saying earlier. The devs told us this was stopgap gear for casuals, so what's the surprise? Are we so spoiled that we have to feel entitled by every new piece of equipment? Let the casuals have their gear. It means more people are likely to stick around and make the game healthier in the long term.
By Dodik 2026-08-16 13:26:18

My guy, I wasn't even in this conversation. You used a 2026 no-no word to describe me because you're butt hurt your hypocrisy got called out.
Chill out. Go touch grass or something.
You keep repeating everyone should follow your own progression path. Fine, that's one way. There are others. Idc if you agree with me either.
Just don't attack new people that are telling you they'd rather get help with V1 than farm escha or unm or w/e. These are the actual new players you're talking about.
By Seun 2026-08-16 13:27:07
This new event is for new players leading into endgame. Odyssey is endgame and not for new players. Why would you think the same principles apply universally?
Any capable group that clears V0 in ambu gear, would purchase relevant gear from their clears and V5 will seem as easy as the V0 was, if not easier. Then they move to V10 and it feels a longer version of the same thing. That ***is bloat.
