Question for Monstrosity & Mastery Rank: Should the focus be to level everything to 99 or unlock as many species and abilities as you can?

I started on the beast path and unlocked Lapinion; move to the next species or lv from 9-99? 90-99 is going to take awhile, fighting Scowlemkos in Uleguerand.

What rank are you now? Myself and Gavroches have pretty much identical Monstrosity. In that we have barely touched it and we both have one mob in the 30s (enough to get the extra vorseal). Yet he is Rank 8 and I am still 7. So it doesn't have much of a bearing on 7 to 8.

Stupid sidequest question: I did Rat Race, which requires a Nashmau Stew, so I did Cook-a-Roon? for the first time to get it. But Cook-a-roon? doesn't show up under my Completed Quests.

Do I have to do it again? Does it never show up? Is there some trick?

Yes, you'll need to do it again for it to show up as 'Completed'.

for me - i had to drop my stage 1 shield (goldsmith) to start the goldsmith shield quest again. the npc in jeuno kept telling me "drop your shield it's useless now"

so it's probably just checking for your current registered guild shield (since it's a rare/ex) and probably to avoid having multiple progress of same shield.

it takes one brave man to try it (im still grinding GP for my shield)

That's just it, the npc tells you to drop it because its useless but you are not required to, but i still have a stage 4 shield with stats. I will test today if craft speed still works as testing craft skill + is harder.

I can confirm stage 4 shield retains the craft speed and presumed craft skill after stopping quest and starting a new shield

How do the Besieged titles/recovery of the Astral Candescence work? Is the title limited to only the first party to enter and clear the BCNM? Can anyone clear and obtain the title within a certain period of time?

Not a surprising cause here, but The Moonlit Path II VD title tipped me over 7 -> 8:

fwiw this character has more of some things than other MR8 people (Monstrosity, total Campaign Ops clears)
but also a lot less of other things (crafting titles, mastered jobs, A/B Moogle Mastery, vengeance clear levels, all-time Limbus chests)
so, you know, everything counts, etc, just do it all and sooner or later

edit: oh, I guess 218 days (7 hours 48 minutes 46 seconds) playtime, character's existed since right before Valentine's Day of this year (so 8.5 months), if people still think there's a time-gate it's at least possible to provide a floor that it must be below

e2: to be clear, when I say fewer mastered jobs, I mean 5 jobs mastered, MLs 32/12/7/3/0. people always highlight that as a thing others are missing but I really do think it counts a lot less than you'd think. (especially the MLs!)

It's likely that EXP (mlxp monexp etc) count for "little" they still count.

When it's 50/1100 you have "a lot" of "a little" to improve. maybe that gets lost in translation.

Many pennies make dollars, 1 dollar bill is the same as 100 pennies.

Felgarr's Rank 9 was an interesting case. Missing a ton of titles, Moogle Mastery, Campaign Ops, but a ridiculous amount of Master Levels.

I'm skillin, I'm skillin!
God I fear to think how many successful skillups it's gonna take me once I reach 95+.
And these are the amount required with the skill campaign up! Lmao.

Some correction on my previous assumptions, some of these info might be already well known, but it's never too bad to reiterate:

My reported proc rate on Sky Blue Racing Silks is above 40% and under 50%, never seen it under 40%, never above 50%

My previously reported proc rate on Blue Racing Silks seems to have been a bit too generous.
It's around 50% so far? Never seen it going under 45% for now, 56% is the max.

It seems to me the blue has a slightly higher proc rate? But I bet they have the same proc rate ultimately.
Unlike what I thought, Blue doesn't "double" your total successful digs per day, but given the proc rate the result is gonna be pretty similar.
I always get around 400 successful digs each day.

right, it absolutely counts, I more mean "well, I'm sure it counts, but oh my god that exp curve..."

Mentioned it before, but I'd suggest ML-ing War if planning on doing any. War gets access to the most weapons and hence the most skill ups for weapons per ML of any job.

Despite what SE has said, I'm still a bit skeptic on skills having that much weight in their mastery formula.

On the other hand though, I'm absolutely confident ML (and Job Points, and everything exp-related really) have a heavy weight.
I don't even think they count the levels, just the total amount of experience/exemplar/capacity points. I'm sure they have a formula that converts them into "mastery points".

I think, likely, the same applies to Monstrosity. Unlocking new monipulators/instinct surely has a weight, but I bet it's light.
Getting a lot of experience instead must have a pretty high value.
Level doesn't matter, just overall amount of exp (which of course is more concentrated in the latter levels)

I mean. Obviously skills don't have "much weight" Likely the absolute smallest variable available.

But 1 > 0

As far as level vs exp, that's just semantics. you have to get exp to level. You can't level without exp. So. And I'm certain level is also a small variable. Just bigger than skill. and you have to level to get skills, so it's another semantic point.

not entirely semantics! if the "points" explicitly come from levels, you'd far rather have ML27 on every job than ML50 on one job (ML27 is 2.055 million EP, ML50 is 29.59 million EP, numbers chosen precisely)

Unless they scale to match the exp.

Is ML49 > ML50 worth more than ML0 > ML1

Maybe. Maybe there's a 1k point boost for hitting ML50. Largely irrelevant. The ML50 has higher skill too, so the amount of "better" 22 ML27 is changes.

It's a pointless argument. Right back to the dollar bill vs 100 pennies. Same ***. They all gotta be ML50 in the end regardless anyway. It's just the priority you place upon it's order.

If you want to debate EXP....

What if the bonus EXP to CAP your bar after ML50 counts as well? just food for thought

Isn't it pretty much the same?
The point is another imho.
A lot of people over time, rightfully, asked if it's better to spread Exp among multiple levels or to concentrate it on a single job. Be it we're talking about jobs or monsters, but I think the answer is the same.
What makes the biggest difference likely is the overall amount.
Given how the curve is so skewed towards the latter levels the answer is easy.

Now... this is particularly true for ML, but to a certain extent it works for all similar things in-game

there is a field that's 0/1 to tell the game whether or not to change the bar color...

(seriously, it's all just semantics, I just think nobody can say confidently, I like to pick nits, etc)

Alright everyone go get themselves 3,817,560 more ML to cap off LVL50, oh and dont ever die, your mastery rank will be in ruins.

Funny thing is that per Byrth's list, nobody has raised their rank on a Master Level. That's one I'd like to see the low rank mules tackle.

I'm planning to rank up to 4, derank myself to 3 via AF quests, and then skill up and see how many it takes to hit 4 again.

I just can't get up to 4, lol. I'm over 4k xic points and still rank 3.

People have reported ranking up from skillups, just not from master level based skillups specifically.

I found HTBF titles to count for a lot. Crank out a few VDs on your alts and see how it goes.

IIRC all my alts were rank 4 and had done nothing but missions, Odyssey, Dyna-D, Sortie, and HTBF.

@Byrthnoth im in the same boat… all missions and addons cleared, 1 job ml 45 (all other jobs unlocked and 99), a majority of quests completed (probably around 65-70%) all crafting at lv 10-20 , did most htbf at VD and dyna d clears… still at rank 3, idk what else to do… I have also been going to escha zitah to skill up where applicable (man that is slow and boring).

Get all of the HTBF completed at VD (or at least Normal difficulty). It forces you to do the content pre-requisites to access the fight, and if you complete VD, you get a title.
