You interjected yourself into defending the use of guesses as statements of fact.

State the guess that I used as fact.
Try reading that again. It doesn't say what you think it says.

dismissing educated and qualified estimations when it suits you (e.g. death estimations)

State the "educated and qualified estimations" that I dismissed. Cite the source while you're at it.

Kireek repeatedly does this and you are his number 1 supporter.

?

So, you're stating supposed facts that are really just your opinion after whining about people doing just that. Good talk.

I've already had to explain to you multiple times in the past that "you" does not mean "you" personally. Here, please educate yourself for Christ's sake;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generic_you

Quote:
In English grammar and in particular in casual English, generic, impersonal, or indefinite you is the use of the pronoun you to refer to an unspecified person, as opposed to its standard use as the second-person pronoun. Generic you can often be used in the place of one, the third-person singular impersonal pronoun, in colloquial speech.

Enough of your IQ destroying rhetorical shitfest. Keep it in P&R.

I was discussing the topic. You came in and only whined about other posters, as usual.

My post was entirely on topic.

You interjected yourself and tried to start an argument with me because of your inferiority complex as usual. Keep your attention begging where we are less likely to get banned. Last time I will respond to your pathetic, worthless drivel here.

I’ll be surprised if you have that kind of self-control. But yes, back to the topic.

Saw an old lady today, with a mask that was filthy with mildew and dirt (bottom half of it was literally grey/black). She had been wearing the same mask for what looks like weeks and maybe hasn't taken it off at all once in that time either.

I tried to tell her that was really bad but she was scared of anyone talking to her, so she hobbled off with it glued to her face.

Ironically, she has a far greater chance of fungal and bacterial infection (and then pneumonia) with the mask than a virus infection without it. A lot of people are re-using masks for long periods of time, most don't let them get filthy but after a certain amount of use they do no good anyway.

If we can shut down the world, we can force all our TV stations to provide proper education to people on how to use masks.
That's part of why they told people not to wear the damned masks in the first place.

Not only to they not do what (you) think they do (cloth, surgical, anything not n95) but they need to be re-sterilized or they do exactly that.

Mask doesn't make you safe. mask makes you more likely to get sick, false sense of security. You don't gain instant immunity to (anything) by putting something over your face.
Took a break from this for the weekend. But damn Eiryl, you're so wrong. Masks absolutely DO NOT make you more likely to get sick. If they did, why would medical workes wear them? Seriously, just stop.
When infected people wear a cloth mask, it covers their mouth and reduces the spread from droplets. Since this disease spreads asymptomatically, claiming only people who "are sick" should wear them is stupid since symptoms are not always an indication you are infected.
If you are wearing a mask and do get exposed, the mask will still reduce the viral load you are exposed to. Meaning you will have a better chance to fight it off.
Finally, having a mask on will remind you to not touch your face.
Masks are incredibly important right now. So kireek was 100% correct. If the government can force people to not work, then they can also force media to teach proper mask use.
Masks aren't going to make people sick. Ignorance will. And you are spreading ignorance.

which means when people start mixing again you will have another outbreak and another lockdown for the same reasons again in the colder months. This will turn into a yearly routine.
I don't think so. This may be a new "flu" and people will just live their lives like normal after this. Especially since once you get it, you are immune to it for years, not months, unlike the flu.

Since, you know, the virus mutates slowly and not much is changed unlike the flu.

Those that recovered are good to go for years on. Those of us who hasn't had it yet, if we survive (still a good chance to do so), will be good for years to come.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but this is completely wrong. Covid is like the common cold. It does not mutate very quickly, but our antibodies degrade very fast. You can be reinfected within months.

If people are getting sick because they aren't using a mask properly, then the correct way to solve this issue is educate people, not telling them "don't use it, just stay at home".

How hard is it to create "how to use a face mask" tutorial on media and internet? Just make them and educate people.

Surgical masks absolutely work. It's the standard "recommendation" in countries that has been successful at dealing with this virus. Are you saying that experts from successful countries are all wrong about surgical masks?

There are countries that never need to enter lockdown phase. They promote "masks for all(including surgical masks or even cloth masks"), have a tons of "how to use a mask" tutorials(made by the government) on the internet so people use them correctly.

If "masks shouldn't be used" mentality is still common in NA, then there's certainly a HUGE gap in terms of information available between countries that are successful, and countries that's currently suffering from lockdowns. And I wonder why.

I mean, tell people stay at home and never go out is easier than give people correct information, I get it. But that's the least effective way than face masks because 1) people will not follow after a few weeks 2) it hurts economy.

Man when did a bunch of gaming idiots become specialists in COVID-19? I truly wish whoever reads this crap don't listen to any of the BS people are spouting here. Bunch of political bias hacks who either watches FOX news or MSNBC. GTFOOH. You people can fight either other all you want but don't spout opinions as facts like you know something because you absolutely do not.

Wearing a mask is fine, but it doesn't give any real protection against droplets from cough / breath unless it's a N95 or better.

It gives people a false feeling of protection making it more likely to not respect social distancing.

Also improper removal / cleaning makes it likely to infect yourself.

This being said, proper use may give you a slight percentage of not being infected, but a scarf would be more efficient than an homemade mask.

This is false. From a source that I posted a few page back, if I remember correctly, it said Surgical mask is about 95% effective against droplets. Cloth mask is about 70%.

Just because it's not 100% effective, doesn't mean it's 0. Last time I checked 70% > 0.

If people turn into idiots and start touching their face, or get close to others because they wear a mask, blame the people, not the masks.

I mean, how hard is it to learn social distancing and proper way to remove a mask? It's not rocket science to practice social distancing AND wear a mask, then remove it properly when you get home.

If it's hard its because of all the false information on the internet.

Each mask has a protection and use. And to prevent biological danger like virus those face masks arent appropriate. Just think the retention mechanism of a facial mask are all bigger than the size of a vírus. So virus are going through it like it was nothing.

Actual masks that protect against this type of danger need to completely cover your face and has an independant supply of oxygen. What is impractical to use for common people

That without saying that every IPE requires testing to see if it can propely seal user respiration and requires training to proper use. In practice, people just put it in the face while the sides are loosened what kills the purpose of the mask.

That said, using mask nowaday means more a social measure like "here, im doing something about safety". But i also it helps at least to prevent people to touch their face before washing.

Pretty sure surgical masks can block droplets as long as its FDA approved. Misinformation needs to stop.

If mask doesn't do anything, why do health workers wear them? Oh wait because it works.

Please go read what surgical mask do before spreading misinformation on the internet -.-

Edit: the point of the mask is to block droplets since that's how the virus transmitted.

The WHO are war criminals IMO. We are at war against a virus and they betrayed humanity and took sides with the virus.

You didn't read a damn thing lol. Not surprising.

Try reading next time. Masks (non n95) give you a false sense of security. You will get it if you wear a cloth mask. it will not do anything.

You are at higher risk with a false sense of security than you would be with nothing.

I said absolutely nothing about if you are already sick, you should wear a mask to stop your spreading. (you should, but it also gives you a false sense of security. a cloth mask will not fully seal your face and fully stop spread, merely reduce)

This guy understood, instead of bullshitting, but I didn't see it first.
