There has not been an outbreak in the US yet, so Trump is batting 1.000. He's not responsible for what happens in other countries. Reserve judgment until, you know, something actually happens. The unwarranted panic isn't helping anybody.
Yeah apparently CNN with orders from the DNC have begun to insinuate that Trump is not only responsible for the virus but that he'll lose the election because of it. I had a super liberal coworker, and I mean lifelong DC liberal, get into a conversation of "can the coronavirus cause Trump to lose an election". I replied that was a dumb idea, he wanted to know why so I broke it into two sections.
First it's far too early in the election year for this to be a deciding issue. This outbreak will burn out before the summer ramp up leading to the September ~ November insanity that is our election year. This isn't a plague, this is just a very aggressive and infectious flu virus. Nobody is going to care about it during the months were things like this would have the most impact.
Secondly, the population that this would have an impact on doesn't care and doesn't even trust CNN. We must divine the voting population into three segments to see how this pans out. First the people that would vote for a potato over Trump (they chuckled on this one), throw those people out as their votes are already decided and won't be changed. Then take the people that will vote Trump regardless, also throw those people out for the same reason. Now that slice that's left, those are the people who need to convince. Those people watch Fox over CNN, if just for the shows (the numbers support this overwhelmingly) and the ability of the DNC to directly influence them with *** is very limited. That means direct events are gonna influence them, that means jobs and so forth. Again the infectious flu that's going around isn't the plague, it's only deadly to the same people who are vulnerable to the flue every year. The economic activity we're seeing now is due to the precautions people are taking to reduce it's spread, it's extremely short term.
Btw now is a very good time to buy stocks as the market, like usual, is overreacting with a transfer of money from stocks to "safe" low interest holdings.
