Reactor 2 lost it's cooling recently I read... It's been inactive for three days with the emergency cooling functioning, how much decay heat can be left?

About between .4 and .2% of whatever power it was operating at at time of shutdown which was most likely full power or close to it. Assuming it had been operating that high for awhile which is a valid assumption probably

"Some radiation was released when the pressure vessel was vented. All radioactive isotopes from the activated steam have gone (decayed). A very small amount of Cesium was released, as well as Iodine. If you were sitting on top of the plants’ chimney when they were venting, you should probably give up smoking to return to your former life expectancy. The Cesium and Iodine isotopes were carried out to the sea and will never be seen again."
Gotta love that MIT wit.
Seriously, though, I'm glad someone knowledgeable (not Bill Nye the Science Guy, Nuclear ExpertTM) is publicly laying the smackdown on all these fear-mongering journalists.

That and a free months subscription, is probably the only thing we may get good out of weathering this week long break.
Just think of this as SE way of saying, "You guys need a spring break anyways!!"
LMAO..
Question: Has this ever happened befpre in the whole 11 years this game has been in running? Has FFXI ever had a week off before?

Probably the best post I've seen so far, trying to give some perspective to folks outside of Japan.
It's slightly long but he says everything I've been trying to say, only better.

that's really a pretty amazing account
i had no idea they prepared so well, and i had no idea that everything went so well, considering the circumstances

On another more serious note; loads of respect to Japan for handling most of their problems on their own. They may be prideful, but they're capable as well.

It's slightly long but he says everything I've been trying to say, only better. I'm a bit curious if a language has no way to convey something why don't they give it a word? "excessive preparation" seems an important thing for Japan.
Or is creating new words an insult in some way?
i don't think he meant it in the literal sense
i'm sure there's a way to describe it in japanese

Quote: 1844: Mikan in Tokyo writes: "There is a growing sense that the Japanese government is not telling us the true story. On one end, there is the Japanese media that plays down the nuclear drama and focuses on human drama, and at the other, the foreign media is up-playing the nuclear disaster. In my company I heard at least half the essential staff is being sent to Hong Kong, Singapore or even Sydney. I am preparing to leave Tokyo and/or Japan. So are many of my friends. There is a sense of deserting Tokyo as soon as possible
