someone lamented a user's departure over free speech and privacy concerns and shared a scaremongering video from a scaremongering channel by one of many groups whose business model is scaremongering, and did so uncritically.

i magnanimously volunteered to do the research on what the laws they're scaremongering about actually entail, as well as relevant arrest and sentencing data to the best of my civilian ability. i also tied it back to the situation they were lamenting. i took some potshots, and backed off when warned.

i tried to talk a bit and open the conversation up to what privacy and free speech look like in online spaces since, like, 2004. i did this more than once. i expressed interest in examples. i pointed out where some of the outcomes of the laws seem to fall short. instead of talking about any of what i shared or addressing the substance of my posts, users got triggered upset and took issue with my tone. i have doubts they even finished reading what i said before banging out a response.

i am now being cancelled blocked and personally attacked (poorly) for not coddling feelings and being niceys enough when i argue topics and point out rickety logic. people are stepping on rakes to take a swing and imagining i'm a mastermind who tricked them into stepping on them.
