Random Thoughts.....What are you thinking?
By kaffy 2026-08-24 08:16:02
that post is a goldmine, I'm a sucker for people so stupid they can't even figure out which word to use to say what they mean.
By Draylo 2026-08-24 08:35:33
I honestly think they are just paid bots. Like surprised this guy has over 20k views for an ffxi video. And even his sponsored videos have the plague there. I dont get how SE is willing to pay people to stream XI but they allow all this to keep going, weird honestly and even on video of someone they sponsored

Draylo's presence reminded me that I need to finish BLU. My old HNM LS made me stop leveling it to level BLM so I stopped at 55.
Also, there's still party/alliance content, idk wtf they're talking about.
EDIT: current to-do list:
Finish WHM to 99 jlv.
Get Mystic Boon.
Finish BLU to 99
Get Bloodsword (preferably as a drop) and remaining RDM AF2 for lockstyle.
Finish Sandy missions.
Clear Windy missions.
Clear WotG (why did I not do this already?)
Finish RoV (stuck at WotG)
Do the moogle mini xpacs.
Maat's cap
Actually gear.
Actually level DRG and SMN.
Finish Apoc, immediately get mad that it isn't actually finished.

"you guys are so dumb" isn't much of a criticism to work with. if you want actual discussion you gotta give people more to work with. if you just want to sling insults, go right ahead, but don't expect anyone to take you seriously.

also doesn't look like a bot. but yes, most ffxi players private or not are not very bright

are you ok?

I hate to generalize, but it's a common misconception among PS players that trust magic somehow ruined the game. They don't seem to understand that it was put in place to counter the fact that players were already leaving and was a solution, not a cause.
Other than that, all of the points are valid. It's free. It's far easier to create an account and login to private servers. There are more players on private servers looking to group up for content rather than solo/multibox it. This shouldn't trigger anyone.

can quibble over word choice if you want, but trusts did fundamentally change the game irrevocably. giving people enough agency to handle many mundane tasks alone is taken for granted these days, and is one of many changes that left the community a hollow shell of what it used to be.
some prefer that freedom, some miss the forced cooperation. the thing is, they're both kinda right. not having to play with stupid people prevents unnecessary stress and friction, but ensures your social circle stays small and potentially misses new people who would fit in with your group nicely.

Trusts aren't replacing much though in anything major. Except for maybe a guy that plays on controller, using his feet.
The "not having to play with stupid people" part is solved easier with multiboxing, which is where a majority of things are at. Pocket buffers or debuffers are gonna offer you way more than Qultarded busting or interrupting SCs, Joachim's paeons or Sylvie's choices of 2 things, depending on what job you're on.
The only difference is the why part. Some do it for convenience. No having to look for *X role* to be filled. Or maybe they work weird hours, so it's more fitting for their playtime. Sure, there's those are are antisocial on the game and just want to accomplish stuff by themselves, but a majority of the multiboxers will drop one of them to have a human join. Assuming said person isn't a living version of Luzaf and does actual nothing.

I disagree with the "anything major" part not because of content difficulty necessarily but on time spent and changed expectations. You want to cap merits, do missions, etc. solo? Pre-trusts you either subbed dnc (maybe sch) or got help, including having a whm or brd alt follow you around everywhere like in the Abyssea era.
Trusts have poor AI, but inhuman reaction times. They won't mistarget something, fumble a macro, etc. People adjust to this and normal cooperation is judged based on those standards.
The bots are really good now, so you get the perfect control and customization. It is the logical acceleration of that goal.
Also was gonna leave this out because it doesn't apply always, but I've seen it more than a few times. In shells with multi-boxers who do play often with others, they attract others who become dependent on them for any and all progression. If the boxer isn't logged in, nothing gets done.
No real difference than the guy funding his relic and maybe one for his best friend on the back of the whole LS's work, to be sure, but not really a good defense of their prominence either.

Unpopular opinion I'm sure, but the tools the players created for themselves did more damage than the tools the developers created for us.

This isn't the draw PS players seem to think it is.
There being more people doesn't automatically make a game good. There being more people is a consequence of it being free, not good.

Anything specific? If we're just talking EP bots, why not adjust totals or provide more way to obtain them? What about 20 year old technical limitations on hardware, networks, and UI?

The big automated botting tools that have people paying subscriptions to use on top of 6 XI accounts so they can press "play" on Sortie then afk aren't helping much.
[+]
By kaffy 2026-08-24 13:22:50
Interesting choice, considering Sortie is instanced and has no monetary component to affect server economies.
That harms the community by removing 1 person (playing 6 chars) from the pool of people potentially interested in Sortie. Problematic for sure, but not the worst offender in my mind.
By contrast, exemplar, salvage and ambuscade bots have been running 24/7 for literal years of playtime, monopolizing camps, causing congestion, etc.

Salvage and ambu bots are mostly run by RMT.
While they cause congestion on the Asuras, they are also responsible for the bulk of REMA upgrade currency without which making REMAs would be far more expensive to actual players.
One could argue salvage and ambu bots do more good than harm.
Congestion on EP camps is again an Asuran thing.
Sortie was just one example, that particular bot can do Gaol, ambu, sheol etc. I personally see it as extremely harmful given how normalised it has become, and the fact it is subscription based.
Why would any new player start playing completely solo when tools like that exist, assuming they have the disposable income to burn and don't care much about the cost of 6x accounts on top of that subscription.
By kaffy 2026-08-24 13:41:54
I've played on at least 8 different servers, Asura obviously far and above the worst. But Bahamut's transition into Asura-lite when Asura was first closed took an astonishingly short amount of time, and I left before it closed. I have no idea if they ever recovered or not, and Bahamut had a very strong social community both because of population and refusal to accept merc culture.
I really dislike the idea of giving RMT a pass as a net good for economic reasons. SE's design choice enables them, then they don't efficiently manage the impact because they like the revenue. The server closure process has been disastrous.
Having said that, I agree and even mentioned how powerful the tools are now, and how much damage they are capable of doing.

No disagreement there.
SE could do something about the RMT, but they don't. Therefor, might as well accept they're here to stay.
Yes, they do add currency into the economy, which is a positive thing they do. Like I said I don't see them as much of a problem. Every MMO with a big enough population and its own economy has always had RMT - it is what it is. Don't have to like it.
By Shichishito 2026-08-24 13:48:26
One could argue salvage and ambu bots do more good than harm. When RMT push alex prices down it might seem attractive if you're currently in the market to buy alex. Most of the time you're probably not though and on the other hand it makes farming alex yourself less attractive so 1 event less that could be otherwise a good gil maker. They also lower the return of your monthly ambuscade efforts.
I'm noticing a lot more AH price fixing lately for a higher variety of items than a couple of years ago which is most likely also due to RMT. They only do more good than harm from a specific pov, if you look at the full picture they are almost always a nuisance.
By kaffy 2026-08-24 13:55:07
In order to accept that, I have to value what's left of the game I get to play vs. the parts that are impacted. Hasn't been a very difficult decision to make, unfortunately.
Who goes around admitting to liking abusive relationships? Plenty live through them, but advocating for them is a whole other level.

There being more people doesn't automatically make a game good. There being more people is a consequence of it being free, not good. so logically we should see every single one of them come back to modern day FFXI once SE increases the cap to 75 and allows all the 75 cap areas to be accessed for free indefinitely?
if this does not end up being true, will you stop posting stupid ***?
By Dodik 2026-08-24 14:28:49
I mean I've stopped playing too. Not because of RMT though, that's way down the list of top things wrong with XI today, IMO.
I remember a time when HELM was the best way to make gil. Economy wise, things are pretty decent now.
Always some idiots that buy gil. Can't really help that.

Signs I played Palworld too much.
Back when I moved here, I thought I had not enough storage.
After I bought some shelves, now I feel I got too much storage.
Most my shelves are kinda empty.
The house is small, so Im really refraining to buy anything that is not strictly necessary for my survival.

Don't you worry, FFXI brain will kick in and soon you'll find there aren't enough Gobbie-shelf quests to hold your stuff.

They were all on retail FFXI videos, not private server ones. Even one of them was sponsored by SE themselves, literally paying him to do it lol.
By GetHelpNerd 2026-08-24 19:15:20
stream was sponsored on twitch by SE, youtube video was not. he says so within 30 seconds of the video you linked.
do you watch any of these or just cntrl f for horizon comments?
By Draylo 2026-08-24 19:33:08
It was on the twitch stream, they advertise literally everywhere on retail videos, they had mods watching the chat. The youtube video was talking about the sponsored video. Why do you care if I watch for Horizon comments? Don't see you caring about people putting horizon comments on every FFXI video.
This is like the 5th or 6th time you come into a thread (you dont even post in this, are YOU ok?) trying to run with the "mentally ill" angle to devalue my opinion. These were all on retail videos, you literally can't go a single video without these comments. They almost always have the same way of posting. This is also the second time this month you've tried to come in, with the same mental illness angle, and try to shut down any discussion. Pathetic lol, you failed before too with the whole "guyz the mods are gonna close the thread!" Like you are just really strange overall, I don't get what joy you obtain from being so weird and trying to act like this is 2000s BG forums.
I have to think how you even approach these subjects. We all know I really love this game, so its obvious why I would be bothered by people advertising a ***copy of the game on actual retail FFXI videos. Why do you get so bothered that people dislike that server? Its honestly weird.
Anyway, if you clicked sort by new comments, you don't scroll down very far. Just because an account is old and has random videos doesn't automatically mean they weren't obtained for bot purposes. Not hard for them to purchase inactive accounts and use it to advertise. Why else do these people go to retail FFXI videos and literally advertise for that garbage for free? That is also why I said they could be dumb, because most of them are.

This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
