It's one of those insults that's really not at all insulting if you're just being goofy. It's like calling someone a "dog" in an insulting manner.
Yes, it's the male equivalent of calling a woman a "***". But it's so archaic and unused that if you called your friend a dog it would be funny. Yet if you called your cashier a dog, they'd (rightfully) be offended by it.
You also don't get access to all wardrobes and there are a few limitations. Also all your posts are completely negative and personally attack anyone that likes retail. D44k idk why you hate retail and still play it and hang around its forums just to attack people, weird. Also i don't try to ruin their fun, only respond to their comments hating on retail (which there's a lot to choose from. )
That just goes to my point that these people are so jaded, they would rather play on a private server with 100x less content, less challenge, less options overall than log into retail when it's free. It doesn't make sense, how can their nostalgia be that deep and how can they be so jaded still from Abyssea. The worst part is they are helping to hurt retail.
A lot of folks aren't even jaded retirees from Abyssea intro era. A lot are just people who played FFXI up until the point they couldn't handle it anymore. There's quite a lot of people who played XI who never got out of the level 60s, never had a 75 in the 75 era etc.
They want to simulate that old style because it's what they never finished. / It's what they could handle.
It's totally possible to do this on the live servers now, just create an alt and never do the level 80 unlock. Trusts are about as good as party members were back then, and all the QoL changes like crystal warps and XP rings exist and make leveling an "at your own pace" thing. My alt has done RoTZ, CoP, ToAU and even WoTG. Friends can join and level sync down to your level if they just wanna mess around.
Hes been doing that and having a lets play, I honestly find that more interesting than literally all the private servers with people attacking bees and taking an hour to swing their weapon. Next they'll start streaming Qufim Island level sync parties on crabs... and that will be for the next years. Its so dumb, every single time a private server comes up its the same thing over and over and they all come back for the content grab on youtube and then disappear again. Every single time attacking retail and saying they dislike it. Most of them haven't even given retail a good try. It's honestly unreal how much hatred was caused by Abyssea, I even found that era to be fun personally. I know they don't all hate Abyssea but its what they all keep referencing and thinking its what retail is now.

And the cool thing is that because it's on my main account, I can just dbox some of my old 75 era gear over to 75-alt and have fun with it. Can scratch that "old school FFXI" itch without abandoning the entire game.
I dont think I've ever gotten a desire to do any of that old stuff. Maybe I missed doing the missions and they were harder, but then you could just do a high tier battle on VD. What a shame, between XIV and all these people wanting 75 era, this game just cant catch a break.
Heh, I just keep my character for my LP lower at the moment because that at least lets the old storyline fights show their fangs a tiny bit. Modern day WS calculations and merits and other stuff still makes a lot of things trivial.
Like heck, the other day I managed to solo Arrapago Remnants at 75, and you can't use Trusts in there. Armored Chariot itself was a 23 minute fight, hehe. (Also, yes, I skipped all of the Qiqirn)
But I mean like, every time I think about the general playerbase for XI from back then, I remember how the majority of folks, ya know, didn't make it to Sky at 75. Most of them never touched Assaults past Excavation Duty, let alone Salvage.
Some people even stopped playing before the 75 cap had been around for a year. They hit 75, called it a day, and then didn't look at XI again for a decade or so. (Thus not knowing bout things introduced a full year later, such as the Thief Trait, Assassin which actually hasn't always been in the game).
Is calling someone a “wench” something derogatory?
In medieval themed restaurants tavern wench is a job description.
In American English usage calling a woman "a saucy wench" can be either approving or disapproving but in either case somewhat dated. Also in either case the recipient might take it as a complement or an insult.

Well, saying "Hi" can have the recipient take it as a compliment or an insult.

I used to use that word on occasion for giggles. An over-the-top, "SILENCE, WENCH!" while pointing your finger like Phoenix Wright can get some laughs... or it can get you killed. Use with caution.
Still never saw the first one. Which is interesting cause it'd be right up my ally. Humans invade planet for profit, what's not to love.
If they hadn't tried to jam it down our *** throat for a year and then oversell it literally every day for another year. I refused to watch it just out of disgust. Not only in theaters but I won't even pirate it.
To say they "aggressively marketed" Avatar is an aggressive understatement. It may be the defining object that shaped my view on ads as a whole. I can't recall ever getting physically irritated for another repeat commercial like that before they started running them. Irrationally angry at the audacity.
I dont remember the ads being that bad honestly. I did think it was really overhyped but it was good, just not like end game good for it to have been #1 so long
By todays standards it was tame. They moved the needle.
It's no RAID! Shadow Legends. Or that damn I can't go to Yemen! I'm an analyst! But it always got my blood boiling. I stopped watching TV entirely. Got rid of cable, went full internet. I haven't owned a tv (for tv purposes) since then.
I am very grumpy about it. Tweex remixes everywhere, which I do like, but I don't think is appropriate for longterm listening.
Hardcore play seems stupid. You're really going to forgo death warp in era "accurate" play? Not too mention having to literally rely on other people to not die. Silly. And the reward for it is Tartarus Platemail lockstyle armor? Lmao. Stupid.
I will have more complaints the more I play this, I feel.

The Tweex remixes are absolutely phenomenal songs. They do a great job capturing each song as something you can listen to in your car. But the way they're orchestrated to have a beginning, middle, and end doesn't make them good to listen to if you're hearing them on repeat as a song tailored for a video game would. They're too hi-fi. It's like listening to an '80s power ballad as BGM.
You'll be happy to know that you can turn that feature off in the launcher. You can also turn off the HD textures, but not the awful, nightmarish "HD" character faces. Supposedly Ashenbubs walked out on the team while the faces were being retextured, and whomever took over that task did the laziest job imaginable.
Tarutaru look terrifying and Mithra look super bored and have no lips. The other races aren't quite as bad, but they all have those piercing eyes. And you can't turn the faces back to normal. They stay like that even if you turn the HD textures off LOL
Ah, the old FFXI spirit still exists in players though. A guy just ran by and gave me a protect and Cure II out of nowhere :) If there's anything good about Horizon, it'll be the players (though obviously there will still be shitters).
Hundred Fists seems to have been nerfed a bit on Horizon. The start up JA delay on it is too long, and the punches are observably slower than they should be. Ick.

I that all the time on Live, if I'm out smacking rabbits or raptors or whatever and I see someone else, I'll toss them a Pro / Haste (regen is party only).

That's one of the reasons why I still sub /RDM on my Blue Mage a lot is to help folks out with a quick Cure or even have Raise on standby. I've dropped Raise a few times during Domain Invasion.
Square Enix devs are like god / spaghetti monster / w/e up in the sky, they create and run the world but don't really interact with it in a tangible way. On retail you can do pretty much what you want (I don't mean from a cheating standpoint, I'm talking how you play or how you interact with people)
The person running a private server is like a king, they appear on the server with special glowing gear so you can stare at them. You know you can be banned for being rude, or saying something disparaging against them or whatever and they are basically the boss of you.
On retail you feel like a person in a world they created and it feels like a proper real place, on a private server it feels like you're a pleb living under the rule of an emperor on a video game. Even the way they talk, retail they always say Vana'diel and private servers always describe it as a video game.
Also, I don't really trust those player numbers. Not like it would be impossible to pad those numbers, especially if you know the drama behind the servers creation (it was basically created as a fu to wings)
you're legitimately the most delusional person i've ever seen. easily. it's not even close
tell all this to the millions of gamers who have had their games shut down.
in terms of # of players, far more players playing on sanctioned servers have had their servers shut down than people playing on private servers. the problems you describe exist in different areas.
the only difference is for a private server it's usually a passion driven project, whereas for a sanctioned server it's 100% of the time about the money.
good luck playing retail ffxi once they deem it no longer worth the cost!
also, for decades now the JP community has been openly racist against anyone and everyone yet they never get acted upon. whereas the NA community you could get banned if you looked at them the wrong way or claimed their mob. you're living in delusion. just because there is literally 0 community now so you don't interact with them at all doesn't mean this problem was very real in the 2000s-into the 2010s.
edit: also i'd highly encourage you to put in a GM ticket from an NA client in english and then do the same thing from a JP client in japanese. the difference in response and response time is astounding. pretending like SE treats their playerbase well or better than someone who runs a private server is the most asinine take i've ever seen. not even bringing up how private servers actually ban bots/obvious RMT. you likely enjoy the 300 galka in south gustaberg right now
i have no idea why you jabber non stop about your feelings and try to portray them as fact but it's an insanely common theme with you.

those look way better than the originals, you have poor taste
Monster crit rate is pretty terrible on Horizon. I keep having fights with Decent Challenges where I get crit 5-6 times in a row. Lol. It'd be funny if it wasn't infuriating.
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
