I understand acknowledging internet lingo as having definition, but by no means does that make them printed dictionary word legitimate.

Just bugs me how tools at Oxford acknowledge ridiculous internet lingo as actual words, worthy enough to be put in the dictionary, when they belong only to an isolated atmosphere of communication: the internet.
Perhaps it's spread like a disease enough to the point where we say things like "BRB" and "LOL" in everyday speech.

Exactly. All from a similar base. Just like the Nordic languages are all extremely similar yet slightly different because of evolution based regionally over time.

lol I catch myself sometimes when i'm thinking of words and wondering where the hell they originated from, some just do not make any sense at all.
I use phrases like "omg" and "idgaf" in normal conversation all the time. And I am not ashamed in the least. It doesn't make me any less intelligent or even less articulate.
Like Urial said, it's evolution before our very eyes. And its only right and proper to partake in such.
