Agree with above poster on WAR (checked guys jobs) PLD is lol, NIN is 48.

As an old friend of mine used to say:

HERES MY TANK SET:

and BACKUP TANK SET (rarely used as apposed to first set):

All joking aside, what do you mean by tank setup?

You don't need to check his jobs, as I'm sure Laffter did not either.

Third Eye/ Shadows up? Use a normal TP/WS Set
TE/Shadows down? Switch to PDT Set, with counter/evade/parry in any spot that you don't have PDT
About to get nuked? Switch to MDT set

War isn't hard. Also, Uther's grip sucks. Don't use it.

Please explain to me what grip is "better" than Uther's. All of the freaking grips are so marginal of upgrades that they probably dont even increase damage by /that/ much lol. Could still be shooting out those 4-5k WS using a Bugard Leather Strap...

/rethread

Seriously still wondering what you mean by tank sets?

This. Although I'd argue that I'd rather have DD gear in non-PDT slots over counter/evade/parry, since WAR doesn't counter too much, evade too often or parry much.

@OP PDT sets consist of Darksteel+1, Twilight Torque, PDT Augmented Dark Rings (Can use Jelly/Patronus), Colossus earring, etc. MDT is Merman's Earrings/Rings, Coral+1 set, Twilight Torque, Lieutenant's Sash, Colossus Mantle, etc etc....

Rose strap if going for 5hit

Sword strap if not enough stp for 5hit, but enough not to lose 6hit.

Pole strap for 2% DA > uther's.

Heh, I dont have enough AN for Rose Strap, so I /never/ even looked at it (I hate campaign after going after IR set). Sword Strap looks decent, considering x-hit builds matter so little for what I do in abyssea... And I honestly saw Pole strap as a very minor upgrade to not having it but I did kind of forget about having capped fSTR in abyssea >_>

Even if fstr wasn't capped, it'd still be better, 1 fstr is such a minor upgrade lol

Then Pole for you is about 1.4% increase
1fSTR is less than 1

All grips are marginal increases (aside from Rose when lowering an xhit).

Yeah, I keep dd gear on over counter/parry/evade, I just tossed that in cause OP asked for 'tank' gear specifically. Not even sure what war would have in no pdt slots for c/p/e... boxer's mantle & counter helm maybe?

I can say for myself it was more laziness then 'not knowing'... At least when it came to Rose Strap. I know that Rose Strap can be godly when lowering x-hit builds, but I dont /own/ one, and never will because campaign is dead to me everyone.

I honestly forgot about sword strap, seeing as before it was "THIS BLOWS BECAUSE IT LOWERS x-hit BUILDS", but never thought about how x-hit builds mean next to nothing in abyssea. VV + getting hit with melees/AoEs (it'll happen) will make x-hits worthless.

Pole I already addressed myself, but guess my assessment underestimated its usefulness.

Maybe? @_@ Still though one needs to do some damage to keep hate. Not that you can put much for DD gear in the other slots though. :<

WAR, like MNK, NIN and basically every other DD tank in Abyssea, should Tank in regular DD gear. Macro in PDT/MDT as appropriate for -Ohshit-

Honestly, since the addition of retaliation, and the fact that a WHM can simply cure bomb (MM is more then enough in most cases), I'd rather just Seigan + third eye, and take dmg to try and retaliation between TE... Dont honestly see much use for PDT, as Third Eye absorbs most physical WS. I guess when TE is down PDT set could be useful... MDT is forever godly though.

afternote: meant macroing PDT for when it uses a WS, as fulltiming it would be meh imo.

Going by Kine's Math Brave might beat Pole with Razed Ruins... and excluding xhits Claymore has both trumped. Uther's is junk inside but outside it gives fSTR so it is useful outside abyssea.

EDIT: Sword affects xhit so I'm counting it as same vein as Rose, so it wins if it doesn't mess up your xhit.

2handed jobs will be getting <1% damage increase from the fSTR during TP and even less during WS. This isn't going to beat Pole/Rose/Sword.
