Apparently not.
"Nice try" though, wish I could give you a cookie for being a good kid.
And hence why I didn't think it was worth repeating.

1991 here.

*winkwink*, keep trying to posture yourself with the dominant position, we all know it's not true.

delusions of grandeur aren't the best to have young lady.

I give myself the place I deserve, too bad some people have a too much of a low self esteem to put themselves there.

and though maybe more than a cookie since I am with out him, I can give you a heartshaped cookie. I have those saved... don't want them to go to waste since "he" didn't pick them up.

Oddly enough Darki's last statement is sort of relevant to what people have been arguing about. You see things how you want. Same as your opinion on matters such as these in this forum.

Some of you need to learn to read, apparently.

The research I linked indicates that spanked children tend to have lower IQ scores than similar children who were not spanked. It also indicates that there is an inverse correlation between number/frequency of spankings and IQ score.

So, what does this mean?

Does it mean every child that is spanked has super-low IQ scores? No. LOL @ the person in this thread that sarcastically quipped that he should have an IQ of 80 because he was spanked. More hyperbole from the basement dwellers.
Does it mean that SOME spanked children CAN NOT end up with higher IQ scores? No. Clearly, some people posting here about their spankings and subsequent academic success managed to be examples of statistical outliers. Bravo. That doesn't make corporal punishment ok.

The research indicates that ON AVERAGE, IN THE SAMPLE OF PEOPLE TESTED, children who received spankings had IQ scores up to 5 points lower than similar children who were not spanked.

Now, some people might say "big deal, 5 points". Yeah, well, maybe you haven't looked into admissions criteria for major universities recently. Do you really want to be responsible for your child not receiving college-prep courses in high school or not gaining admission to his/her college of choice, because they "just missed" the cut-off for said college's admissions, based on grades and test scores?

The difference between an A student and a B+ student is noticeable. The difference between an IQ score (or, by extension, and SAT or ACT or GRE score) of 105 and 100, believe me, it gets noticed by people who get paid to decide your child's educational opportunities.

So, if you spank your kid, it is LIKELY (not absolute; few things are absolute) that you're HURTING his/her chances in life. I know this is difficult for some of you to understand. Try harder.

I believe it, problems at home can distract a child horribly from their school work, and of course a child with a problematic family that "spanks" them will have lower IQ, grades etc. its a big distraction

That's not the equation spanking=lower test scores. Too many extra variables there.

Don't know what more to say; I guess you're just dumb then?

As stated already, the research doesn't indicate an ABSOLUTE "equation" of spankings = lower IQ for EVERY spanked kid.
The research DOES indicate that IN GENERAL, ON AVERAGE, spanked children end up with lower IQ scores than children who are not spanked.

Listen, what you choose to believe is your business. But when hard science (research), empirical science (psychologist practice), and common sense (mature adults shouldn't beat defenseless small children) ALL stare you in the face and tell you that corporal punishment is a largely negative influence on children, and you STILL thumb your nose and say "*** it, I'm gonna beat my kids anyways because I think it's right!!!" ... then you're just plain stupid. And stupid is as stupid does.

First of all, I don't have kids. Second of all, I didn't say *** it Imma do it anyway. Thirdly, being spanked isn't being beat. I also think you're a stupid retard. See? I can do it too. Psychology is also some of the dumbest ***imo. I don't remember the date, but for a long time being gay was a psychological disease. People will say anything is "psychological problem", and there's also many qualms about modern medicine and the effect and use it has in modern day treatment.

using being gay as a psychological problem compared to a child being beaten... is just an extreme line. Sure they were wrong on the gay part, but i don't believe you should hit a kid.. they are capable of understanding just fine, "adults" just dont sit down and talk to them correctly so the childs mentality can understand.

be it a small or big hit, both have an impact on the psychological aspect of a child. Usually when adults hit their kids its because they lost patience. I've never seen someone hit their kid for discipline, only because they lost control of the situation.

Oh come on.

Psychology is science.

People used to think the world was flat, too.

Does that make Geography "dumb ***" too? Umm, no.

"People" might say "anything" is a "psychological problem".
That's irrelevant. Psychologists don't say "anything" is a "psychological problem".

But here's what ARE verifiable psychological problems: anxiety disorders, eating disorders, depression, and a host of lesser problems (anger management issues, sexual deviancy, etc.).

I GUARANTEE that spanking children directly influences the prevalence of these disorders as the previously spanked children age into their teen and adult years.

If you don't believe that, you're probably the type of person that doesn't believe smoking cigarettes causes cancer and heart attacks.

A.K.A. dumb.

I'm going to agree with Hohenheim here. The fact that your out right calling people stupid and dumb for having a different opinion based on ideas and concepts that seem right to them is a show of lacking patience. Those studies you've provided may have some merit but in cases where a child is beaten many times is usually due to worst living conditions compared to those who aren't beaten. I know you said it before that the articles do not say spanking=lower IQ but it does not support your claim all too well either. What that study shows more is how IQ is related to environmental upbringing the way I see it.

PS. I really do hope you don't use that kind of language with your kids. Calling someone an idiot, retard, or what have you can be much more detrimental to their mental growth then a tap on the arm or butt. Btw what self respecting parent whose gonna spank their kid actually hits the head? That is being extremist to say all parents who spank their kids smack their child in the head.

Edit: Why hasn't this been flame cored yet? I believe I saw nothing but people flaming each other for like 3 pages.

so yeah.
