The market does not cater to games like XI anymore. There are reasons most games like it are equally as old or older.
And there is a reason why all of those old style games like XI still have a following.

There's the "remake XI in Unreal Engine 5" that someone has been working on/off for the better part of a decade.

(It's not happening.)

That title is total crap—what am I even thinking? Nah, I'll tell ya: I've been playing this game for damn near 20 years now, and boy oh boy, what a wild ride it's been. But these days, I'm craving something new. Coming up with new gear alongside the old-*** platforms just ain't cutting it for me. Odyssey gear is good, sure... but will we ever see a new version of FFXI? That's what I'd tell Square Enix: get your coders on it, that's how it's done. In the meantime, happy start to the new year, everyone!

If you actually try ranking up one of the accessories, you'll find one of the problems is if you start with too low of a cap you wont be able to save up enough for the later ranks and it will slow you down a lot. This is why so many are running around point capped or throwing points into +4 items.

Thankfully once you've finished one item in a zone your cap should never be an issue there again.

No, there's no drama here, but back in the day I was a national-level bodybuilder, and now that age has caught up with me, I've had to accept the changes that come with aging and adapt them to my current training. Time catches up with us all eventually. With these words, I wish everyone a great year ahead. I've spoken.

Ah, so the steroids rotted away your brain. Makes sense.

The gobbie box has blessed me with an Absorbing Shield, which is one of the weirder pieces of gear in the game. BGwiki says its enchantment steals one status effect from a monster. OldWiki says it steals up to 8.

I'm thinking of testing:
* Can it steal aura? (probably not)
* How many buffs/debuffs can it actually steal?
* Can it be used on something like Fu to take the buffs back?

You VASTLY overestimate how many people care about your story. You spam uninteresting threads about nothing, necro bump your own stupid ramblings, and are a text book case of the Dunning Kruger effect.

The day you actually shut up will be the only day I ever celebrate anything about you.

That's an impressive crashout yo

Sorry was the title misstep I was hoping you read hole story.

Most of us are here for the nostalgia and because they've invested too much time to let go.
We have quite a stretch of FFXI behind us where it got nothing. I'm not a fan of new limbus either. I think warmed up content is the best we can hope for I just hope they do it better. You can ask for more but I'm afraid you'll only get disappointed.

I never cared for FFXI PVP, I always had the impression that XI is too slow and sluggish in the back bone for PVP and class balance is a catastrophy.
I agree with the game dynamics in Ballista, but to me, it's part of the game, and everyone who's played Ballista knows it and learns to adapt over time. I've never understood why Ballista stirs up so many emotions—I've always found it a fun part of the game... but to each their own.

@ Nats - Mint doesn't issue ownership to installed objects naturally? I'm not familiar with forcing that. I'll look into it though.

Ran with > How to Get Out of Dependency Hell, see below.
E: Unable to locate package winehq-staging

So.. most of the commands did something.. however.. not sure why that was necessary as wine/tricks was installed via the app store.

(yes i'm calling it an app store, thats what (software manager) looks like when you run it for those reading later someday)

I typically don't use software managers even when using distros that have them, but now I'm on Arch.

Threw "winehq-staging linux mint" into Google and the AI assistant says this:
Quote:
To install winehq-staging on Linux Mint, you must add the official WineHQ repository, as Mint's default repos are outdated.

Dunno if that's true or to what extent, might have to go to Wine's homepage and see what they say about installation on Mint.

Again I've covered that discord isn't an option.

It finished only to leave a few folders and one file "d3d8.dll".

Game doesn't run, didn't complete its install as far as I can tell. I can say with confidence that not doing any of the installs I've done and say just clean installing linux and lutris with nothing else doesn't fix this issue (this is my 5th reinstall for linux).

File "/app/lib/python3.11/site-packages/lutris/exception_backstops.py", line 29, in wrapper
result = function(*args, **kwargs)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
File "/app/lib/python3.11/site-packages/lutris/game.py", line 677, in configure_game
gameplay_info = self.get_gameplay_info(launch_ui_delegate)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
File "/app/lib/python3.11/site-packages/lutris/game.py", line 616, in get_gameplay_info
gameplay_info = self.runner.play()
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
File "/app/lib/python3.11/site-packages/lutris/runners/wine.py", line 1259, in play
raise MissingGameExecutableError(filename=game_exe)

Try to get winehq-staging running, delete the ffxi folder and try the script again. I think I had to do that once after running all of GE's commands on the link I posted.
