I'm aware that Asura was recently locked down for new accounts and was wondering if there's been any talk at this time about SE giving incentives to transfer off to other servers like they do in FFXIV when one gets too congested, usually like free transfers and all that.

I'm also interested in learning if I should stay put on Asura for a bit of time before transferring to another server in order to use their AH to level up subcrafts to cap, or has QoL with RoV and Adoulin NPCs basically made that moot now? I have Alchemy around 78 and seen it's been needed on the server I wish to transfer to due to AH shouts over the past few months, or would it be best to take another craft to 110ish without shield these days for someone that plans to still be mostly "casual" for the most part?

Context (mild rant but informative) -

With that being said, the sets are a very good guide and baseline for what kind of sets BRD can make. You should look at sets like that and compare it to what you have, and then adjust accordingly. If you need more defense, magic evasion, dual wield, etc, if you are subbing dnc or war, do you have QA augment Chironic gear? High Ranked Nyame? Volte pieces? Ashera Harness? There are dozens of ways to gear a bard accordingly. "BIS TP Set" is a misnomer; it's all circumstantial and depends on situations. You have to build a set appropriate for the/most situation(s), there is not one set that rules them all.

You can also use the Item Sets page to search for sets to get ideas from

Here's the general set I run, for comparison:

ItemSet 400573

Chironic - QA+2% (3% is possible), Accuracy. I also had a STP+9 Chironic Hose that was better* than Volte Tights.

I normally /DNC, so Haste Samba and 9% DW puts me exactly where I need to be with capped magical haste. Frees up the belt slot to use Sailfi+1, which I consider a way better belt vs a DW belt, since earrings are generally weaker comparably. Also allows me to use Null Shawl, which I consider better than JSE cape for pretty much everything.

When I need tankiness: Swap legs/feet for Nyame
When I need accuracy: In addition to the above, swap belt for Kentarch +1 > Olseni > Null Belts (in that order). Swap JSE neck for Null Loop (this might be questionable). Swap Moonlight to Chirich +1. If I still have accuracy issues, either sing a Madrigal, eat sushi, or drop TP Bonus offhand for Gleti's or Crepuscular Knife.

Some people prefer Volte Tights over Nyame Flanchard, but I haven't been lucky enough to get those yet.

TLDR - Several ways to build a set for BRD TP, but I don't think the term "BIS" refers to one set. It all kinda depends.

Honestly, ever since Square Enix's failure of $200M Avengers game, the company has been struggling financially.

I think to myself that, they are circling the drain and someone like Sony is eye'ing up to buy them in a heartbeat.

But ...but, it would be TRAGIC if Microsoft or Amazon (Activision?) bought them instead...

if enough NA people went to the extreme to cancel subs over this, would SE even get the memo? how do you hit them where it hurts AND clearly show why you did it? a forum post on the OF would probably get shut down immediately.

not suggesting anyone do this, just a thought exercise how would you get their attention. Nynja made the point that this absolutely would not fly on Odin, and I agree, how do non-JP ever stand a chance?

If enough people cancelled subs for long enough they would just shut down the servers as it just wouldn't be feasible to keep them running with such a same player base. What you are suggesting here would hurt the game way to much.

There is no benefit to having dark elemental resistance wrt resisting sleep.

I asked and Argisto confirmed, from Argisto's testing.

A whm's idle set just needs high meva and/or status resists, if your aim is to resist sleep or other status effects.

Thank you that was the one i ws looking for

it just shows that even when you are this confident
Quetzalcoatl.Jakey said: »
Ya i don't think I can support an idle set that lacks darkness resistance especially for someone who destroyed their wake up stick.
You can still be 100% wrong on your argument about lacking dark resting for sleep.

"-At 0 resistance, it is still possible to fully resist a negative status effect given enough magic evasion, unlike with elemental magic damage."

It would have to be an actual holy ***moment. Biblical. Even to get a bean counter to raise his eyebrows in actual panic. An unachievable goal.

And it would be the excuse the execs are waiting to pull the plug against Fujito's efforts, so let's make it not happen.

So two things:

It's blatantly obvious that a threat from upper management was made to cut the budget of XI over the last couple of years bfore Matsui left, if revenue did not improve (inflation is destroying the profit margin of the game, and has been for years), that is why Matsui tried to make VR (when it is blatantly obvious they did not have the budget to make it to the standard they are usually made) and shilled merch so hard for a couple of years. They were trying to boost revenue, it didn't end up making enough of a difference and Yoshida cut the budget of the game anyway.

That is why Matsui stepped down from the game when he intended to stay with it till retirement, he didn't do it because he wanted to. Matsui was offered to go work on ff14 14 years ago and he turned it down because he wanted to keep 11 going, so he took over producer role. He was literally moved off 11 and is now working on some shitty unknown "mobile game" till retirement because JP companies can't lay people off, and he needs to hang in to get his pension. He fell on his sword to save the game, and because he refused to lay anyone else off he was in charge of.

This is why Fujito was so salty when he took over and was talking the way he was when he was talking about worrying about the developers careers, and why he can't hire anyone else. Cause they don't have the budget to hire anyone else anymore.

Yoshida recently made a post complaining about people modding ff14, and how it was costing them money (players mod cash shop stuff and use an addon so other players can see everyone elses mods). How inflation was really destructive and only the cash shop allows them to continue funding ff14. Now imagine a game with no cash shop and less players if this is his mindset.

This is not to say the game is on the verge of being shut down, but it's obvious the devs were not happy about losing someone from a close knit team.

ff14 statement from Yoshida: (bolded part half way down)

Secondly

Like, what do people think would happen if they had a zero tolerance approach to RMT instead of just trying to control them as they do now? The RMT would DDOS the servers as they did during the choco blinker days and none of you would be able to login, they would also start hacking players accounts again to sell their gil off. Given how lacking in protective thinking many XI players are with addons and download anything from anyone, that would not end well for the endgame players.

SE control RMT pretty well, stopping them being overly malicious. If the RMT went full apeshit mode the game really would not be able to weather such an onslaught too well.

Right now the serious RMT operate on a level where they want the game to continue out of self interest, and where they try to make their money offering services instead of being oppositional to the game and its players. That's about as good as it can get when there are few legal ways for the companies to stop these people.

SE isn't banning the RMT. Who's going to pay for the missing money? You? Fat chance. If somebody want to avoid RMT then they can always move to an empty server. RMT aren't going to be there but so is everyone else.

With the RMT gone, the one buying from them will also go away. Why? It's like eating at a restaurant and cooking for yourself. If all the restaurants are gone then the ones who couldn't be bothered to cook would move away. You will be left with tough farmers who grow their own crops with 6 characters and doesn't speak to anybody.

Whether you like it or not, population is critical to maintain an economy. There is a reason why people aren't spreading to the empty servers where there are very few if no RMT. People gather at high population server and so are the RMT and in turn, the RMT provide a service for people who don't play the game as much but still paying and make the place lively.

Ok thanks Melliny, Buukki.

Yeah, I do have a pretty decent Cor that I could run segments with, it's just that I lost all my macros & scripts for it recently. Have been dragging my heels on rebuilding it. Only just rebuilt all the dnc stuff and enjoying it atm.
By Goltana101 on 2025-09-07 01:33:49
I was just having fun with Club DNC. I don't recommend it :)

The problem with DNC as a job in Sheol C Segments is that it's native weapon is piercing, and there are 15 nostos types that resist piercing. Whereas there are only 4* nostos types that resist slashing (*Qutrubs don't count because they take double damage). So naturally, people will want Slashing jobs. You're just sorely disadvantaged just based off of he monster types. Even MNK is better because it only faces 11 resistances. Piercing weapons just got screwed overall in Sheol C

If you're making your own parties though, by all means go DNC to your own stuff.

Had a odd bug today. Walked up to a chest in A and started spamming my living key macro (can confirm at least 9 attempts from console, probably a lot more) but nothing happened, didn't get the text that says "However, it has no effect." indicating the key was successfully traded but failed to open the chest.

Double checked if I hit the wrong macro or ran out of keys. Walked a few steps away (maybe 10-20 yalms, not far enough to make a mob or chest depop and reload) and back to try trading again - nothing.

Then I clicked the chest to get the " you might be able to open it with izzat or a special item." dialogue and the menu for trading izzat, canceled it and started spamming the key macro again. At that point I got 4x "However, it has no effect." which confirmed key trading worked again and then a "Oh no! A mimic!".

Makes me wonder if the not beeing able to trade keys part was tied to it beeing a mimic. If so I wouldn't be surprised if it can be, or already is, abused.

That is a backend connection issue between your ISP and whatever IP that zone is hosted on. I wont pretend to know why it happens, but I know its strictly connection based and not character based, evidenced by:
1-the fact that you can either hop on a VPN or have a friend log you and move you to a working area.
2-it happens across multiple characters for the same zones

Original point stands, you arent using a VPN to play FFXI. I cant imagine the lag doing Gaol, Dyna, Sortie over a VPN.

I have used a VPN connection for over a decade now and FFXI is always connected to it. I am sure many people use a VPN and play FFXI. Banning VPN would be so stupid!

("but VPN", blanket ban VPN's, no ones playing FFXI over a VPN)

This isn't an important topic but I often experience an issue where when entering certain zones I cannot connect. I get stuck at "downloading data" for like 3 minutes, then DC and can't connect to that character for like 5-15 minutes, they will DC every time. It happens like clockwork, every time, across multiple characters, with or without windower, with no dat swaps or addons.

If I'm connected to a VPN, I can enter those zones no problem and never experience these crashes. So, while I don't ALWAYS play on a VPN, if I know I'm going to those areas, I do preventatively connect to VPN before logging in to avoid the hassle.

At rank 25 do any Nyame pieces become BIS for any BP types?
potentially the two pieces with pet dmg+, body and legs. Having the + all stats on all slots could be interesting too.

But sadly most reasonable people will do the WSD pieces instead. *** like this is why nyame shouldn't have a rare tag.

I think we have firmly established that I am not reasonable. Thanks.

It kinda surprised me you supporting stories.

Ok, I can wrap up a innovative story about the Slugssaurus kidnapping the Chihuahua princess and keeping her in the castle.

And the hero, the Jumping Dog, must rescue her and bring justice to the evil Slugssaurus.

Just a disclaimer, all characters are fictional

Hell I am a bit luckier since I'm in the same shell as sterk and run ody with him but I'll be picking his brain and looking to copy. I think this could be an easier transition from 8 boss to aminon and 9 boss runa for mosy groups.

That's nice and all but your idle set assumes people went with niche or one off items like Diamond Aspis and Meva TVR ring so of course it's going to be better. Let's also include stage 5 Prime yo that "HQ idle" set.

The shield they are using is one of the better elemental resistance shields outside Diamond Aspis's huge Meva.

PS your top idle set should have Daybreak instead of full timing the Prime club. You can just macro or toggle in the Prime club if you get slept this then gives you back 1hp/mp a tick.

Edit: nvm is the stage 5 Prime and not the wake up stick.... I'm sorry for your loss.

I only assumed max means max.
Whatever your preference is does not change what max is.

NA players only copy established setups

Ask a COR do something besides
Chaos Roll / Samurai Roll

Deer in the headlights reaction

This is one of the most braindead takes on the planet.

You say "NA players only copy established setups" in response to someone saying that players are gonna copy a setup that was shown to be successful. Yup, nobody's going to copy them because NA only copy people.

Then "Ask a COR do something besides
Chaos Roll / Samurai Roll

Deer in the headlights reaction" in a thread where CORs are doing Tactician's & Miser's rolls for THE established setup, & Bolter's roll about 200 times. I guess maybe you don't spend a lot of time in Sortie...?
