The argument has never been about which vr ring to choose.

From the start I've been trying to answer this question.

If I'm in a position where I think PDL gear is affecting the damage of a WS, how much PDL gear should I use:

My argument is that you should use all of it. If you have 30% that is relevant you should use 30%. If you only have 20% that is relevant, then just use 20%. You're never going to know if you're only actually using 10% (Unless you've done extensive testing to know for sure that).

Cornelia's, Ephramad's, Lehko's, makes no difference to me. Each has very valid use cases.

The one caveat is that you do have access to PDL gear that isn't relevant, specifically R30 Mpaca's hose, I don't think there is any real scenario where the PDL from that item provides more benefit over Nyame path B.

Heya! Sorry ive been busy in the background, but here is Tally! I did her for a card game i am part of, please enjoy!
Il do more XI sketches again soon ♡

I think it's really awesome you drew her with heterochromia (two different eye colors). I have a loved one with it and she always gets excited when she sees characters depicted with it.

Love the pic Tally :D

Just had a funny thought about your name.

Been saying it in my head as Tally Wally. Like Tally-mark and Wally the same way...

But has it actually been Tall-ee, Wall-ee, this whole time!? :O

NM are not solo friendly for sure, but they are not difficult with 6 people. Shiva seems to have taken down their NMs, look like we done on Phoenix as well. They take 10 min tops. Just glad it’s for the month now.

I'm no game developer, but that sounds like bad game development. 10min monthly content?

That looks like react (not gearswap)

Which I believe only works for NPCs (not PCs including yourself).

If you want it to work for self cast just put it in your midcast sets (I think) in your gearswap. If you want to distinguish between self cast and other casts I think you can use a player.name sort of conditional. Just define 2 different sets (can use set_combine() and override relevant pieces to only support 1 base set).

If you're multiboxing you can probably use send to have the character getting casted on change sets.

if its just a friend casting on you, not sure if there's a solution. (other than them telling you and you manually equipping it)

(pseudoish code):
Code
if player.name == 'mychar' then
 equip(sets.midcast.Phalanx.self)
else
 equip(sets.midcast.Phalanx)
end

Is there a way to keep lockstyle despite weapon type changing? Currently idling in a club but if switch to a staff it breaks it.

Dressup addon in Windower, but in the base game there is absolutely no way to do this, no.

Thank you. That's what I needed!

Kill the boss with 8 minutes left or 6 minutes left, really no difference.

Kill the boss in 14m30s, don't kill it in 15m10s, big difference.

The difference one piece of gear makes is not that significant Maletaru.

I feel like it's worth remembering that in their effort to lower costs to keep FFXI running "as long as they can", FFXI no longer exists as an independent entity at SE.
It has no budget, as it was folded into the FFXIV budget.
It had no dedicated devs anymore, not one. They told us this and justified it on the basis of not locking devs into working on obsolete ps2 coding. So any dev work on FFXI is handled by XIV devs when they are between XIV tasks.
And it has no dedicated hardware either. All our servers are run on virtual machines on the XIV servers.

Yeah, people will be bitching, but so what, that’s all they do…

NM are not solo friendly for sure, but they are not difficult with 6 people. Shiva seems to have taken down their NMs, look like we done on Phoenix as well. They take 10 min tops. Just glad it’s for the month now.

Can’t wait for the next update as those gears will be done by year’s end.

Well they already spawn at JP midnight

But whats your source data that people would be "1000% be bitching if they gave the NM's a 2k unit bonus"?

  • Make the NMs force spawned with pop items dropped by other enemies in different wings, like Abyssea.

I understand the point you're trying to make, I think I agree to a very wide margin.

I think you might be missing a very important point from SE's point of view though. Wether we can agree or disagree with them, a key part of the Limbus development for them was trying to bring back the "you're in the world" feeling, as opposed to the instancing we've seen for all these past years.
With a goal like this, of course they wanted to promote free-spawning and free-popping NMs.

I'm in the frontlines in saying that the NMs system simply doesn't work right now because it doesn't, there's not much to discuss here, it doesn't, period.
But lest we forget that it's not "complete" yet.
I'm very very confident NMs will have a wider scope in Limbus once new elements of this endgame activity will be released before the end of the year.
It's too early for us to judge now, let's wait a bit more, shall we?

Possibly, but in timed events like Odyssey or Sortie you can't apply the time gains from the porter moogle to your timer inside the event, so this comparison kinda falls apart.

I'm not suggesting that skipping the moogle would be the same as adding time to the event. The point is that you can clear a seg run in 23 minutes or you can clear in 27 minutes, but the effort and reward are the same. Kill the boss with 8 minutes left or 6 minutes left, really no difference.

Im somehow studying more and more Power BI.

Im not sure how should I feel. Annoyed for investing in something that is not my core interests? Feeling excited for learning a high in demand skill? Interested in learning data science in practice?

Im half way in an introdutory course, and about to purchase 3 books that would provide most necessary information to jump from beginner to at least intermediate.

Lets see. Having Power BI in my portfolio should be enough to get a basic to mid salary job that could be 100% remote

I dont follow them so was unsure if Datalog is a new rebranding, a secondary channel or some cease and desist on the FFU

I didn't know about Datalog to be honest, that's interested. Regardless, they run 3 channels iirc. FFU, Datalog (for RPGs) and Kingdom Hearts Union. They are still active on all 3, but most active on FFU.

IIRC, the main guy running the channel mentioned not being allowed to use FF logos, and marketing it as a "fan-made, unofficial FF encyclopedia" otherwise they would run into trouble. But they've published 2 books, so whatever they did, it worked for them.

In fact, rather than being antagonistic to FFU, SE seems to be open to them. Several big names actively working at SE have done interviews with them, attended events they host, etc.

I've been in touch with FFU before. I recently reached out to them about how they've managed it twice without any issue. You may be exactly right, but they'll have more info on that topic.

Yesterday I watched a video that were clearly from them but talking about Dragon Quest.

The channel name was Datalog.

I dont follow them so was unsure if Datalog is a new rebranding, a secondary channel or some cease and desist on the FFU

Ooh, so it was a bit less than 8k for 130 and ~9k for 135.
That felt like a bigger difference to me, but it totally is not I suppose.

I think I can corroborate Ninja's number of ~8k Units per full run at 135 on both Apo and Teme, aside from the 3k you get in the final chest.
130 was, what, around 5.5k?

Carbuncle.Maletaru said: »
Temenos has 21 floors at 170 per floor, 4 floors at 340 per floor on 130 = 4,930 units + 3000 for the chest.
At 119 that changes to (21*60) + (230*4) = 2,180 + 3000
7,930 vs 5,180

Apollyon has 10 floors at 238 per floor, 8 floors at 306 per floor on 130 = 4,828 unit + 3000 for the chest.
At 119 that changes to (10*128) + (8*196) = 2,848 + 3000
7,828 vs 5,848

I haven't done 135 but assuming they followed the same formula (+10 per level per floor) it would be:
Temenos:
(21*220) + (4*390) + 3000
9,180 for 135 -> 7,930 for 130 -> 5,180 for 119
Apollyon:
(10*288) + (8*356) + 3000
8,728 for 135 -> 7,828 for 130 -> 5,848 for 119

Bonus: NM drops more points for every player matching its job. Could lead to some fun shouts for lesser played jobs and a chance for folks to dust off the old SMN or BST for this.
Have you fought these things ever? I dont think you have because if you did, you'd be aware of how horrible of a suggestion this is.

I have but we didn't bring anyone matching the NM's job as far as I recall (it was a few hours after they were introduced, probably first kill on the server). Is there some special mechanic I missed from that?

In any case, I did intend it as an additional layer of challenge which is appropriate given the larger reward. If I'd wanted to make it easy I'd have just suggested it take 4x damage from Naegling.

one: is anyone here gonna slip their ***for missing out on 2k points considering a 1 hour climb is ~8k points (CL135)?

Have you seen how many people are having an aneurysm over losing 3 minutes' worth of EP? To answer more directly: Yes. People would 1000% be bitching if SE made these NMs spawn at JP midnight and give a unit bonus.

Carbuncle.Nynja said: »
two: JP midnight is 11am est. Sure most NA are at work, but most JP are heading to bed, considering its, you know, midnight, and probably arent killing up-to eight of these NM's in a timely manner.

Depends on the server but I can all but guarantee they'd be dead within an hour on Asura/Bahamut. On Carbuncle there are normally several yells with the position and job of the NMs, asking for cooperation in killing them (in JP) so...I'm not saying they die, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility. Mind you this is with "0 reward" aka the current system.

I think "bis" is a bit of a silly term in FFXI as well, sure, but there are definitely bis pieces for plenty of sets (WAR relic head for Warcry) and, crucially, for a specific set of circumstances there is still a bis piece for each action for each slot.

"bis" in other games might be "never take it out of this slot" but in this game it means "best in slot for this particular action under these particular circumstances." If you don't understand that (not referring to anyone in particular here) then you have a misunderstanding about the way FFXI works, IMO.

Very well put. I feel like pretty much everyone here gets that, but nice explanation. I might have to save that for some of my friends who are FFXIVers stopping by to visit Vana'diel (a surprisingly large number of them, these days).

And honestly, this is probably THE #1 reason I've been playing XI for 20+ years. The depth that comes from having a multitude of different pieces that all remain useful for different purposes is fascinating to me.
By maletaru on 2025-10-21 00:17:49
I'm imaging a world in which they gave these things 2k points as a bonus for killing them, and the hundreds of posts in this thread complaining about how they can't play during JP midnight and how unfair it is they're missing out on these units and how *** stupid SE is for this design.

It's very amusing to me how much the community would rip their own ideas apart, if they came from SE instead of themselves.
