Seriously. I assume it's a points thing. Some number of points for objective like all quests in bastok or max fame in area, or whatever, with x points for rank 2, 2x points for rank 3, etc.

The question is what are points given for and what are the tiers for level up?
By echohawk on 2026-03-24 03:43:41
Oooh su4 sounds like a much better cost effective way to go actually. Thanks!

With that said, I really doubt those play a big role in the grand scheme of Mastery rank up, then again who knows?

I wonder if any of us has been following similar discussions going on in the JP community? Did they ever find out something about it?
Would love for SE to give us some more details about it in the next AMA Vana'diel.

Jokes aside, I came back to the game 2 months ago by now and joined/organized sporadical v25 sessions already. You know how many times 1 "helper with kill" joined us? only once (and *** it up), otherwise none.
I had the same exact experience, and can we blame these people? Imho no.
As someone who has a couple of V25 kills, the few times I've been asked to join a group to help them get the win (thing that I've done plenty of times) I've been very reluctant, depending on several factors:

1) Which job do they need me as? Do I have enough EP buffer? Because there's gonna be a lot of deaths
2) Do I still need RP from that V25?
3) You need lotsa Segments to participate. Some people have gazillions and that's not an issue for them, but many other people are starving for segments and need them for themselves, can't "waste" them on other people
4) Most of the times it's not a matter of joining 1-2 runs and getting those people a win. Those strategies, at least some of them, are very complex and don't allow a large margin for errors. It's gonna take many, many, many runs for everybody to learn what they have to do. Even you yourself, maybe you've done the fight 2 years ago and you barely remember how to correctly do things. A lot of times something goes wrong (you fail) and you don't exactly understand what caused it. It's not always easy to see where the error was and who did it, and that only makes it more complicated for a party "leader" to fix it on the successive try

So, yeah. Those fights, at least some of them, can something truly incredible to experience.
But sometimes you just can't be bothered and I can't blame people who don't want to. You hardly have any incentives to do so once you're done getting RP.

To be fair RDM can be an exceptional DD in Limbus, at least with the regular "physical" setups spamming Savage Blade with Naegling.

I suppose RDM could deal decent damage even in a "magic/hybrid" setup, because we're discussing Frailty/Malaise setup where SAM spams Jinpu and COR uses Leaden, right?
In such a setup a RDM with Crocea could use I guess Seraph Blade or Red Lotus Blade or Sanguine Blade, plus the additional damage from those 800+ enspell proccing on melee hits.
Wouldn't be on par with the SAM I guess but it all adds up!

Altough honestly, at least on level 135, even with just Frailty instead of Fury/Frailty, I'm confident Savage Blade would still hit pretty hard for >40k+ on each use.

Limbus weapons will certainly just be removing the dt and be high base damage. Theyre not going to be an ultimate weapon line.

Each rank up removes 2% dt to rank 25 (or 15 or whatever)

So youll have to choose 99k with limbus weapon or 50k with PREMA

If that was the balance, the Limbus weapon would be a must have for people who care about upgrading much of the new Su Limbus gear. Obnoxious grind once for a weapon that could slash the grind for all armor going forward.

And I happily go back and help people with these fights, even to this day on fights where I am capped RP and get nothing from it. But I guess I'm in the minority of people who thought those fights were very challenging and entertaining.

If those fights really make you happier, you're always welcome to show up for my v25 re-kills, i can get you super happy if that's the case LOL. Jokes aside, I came back to the game 2 months ago by now and joined/organized sporadical v25 sessions already. You know how many times 1 "helper with kill" joined us? only once (and *** it up), otherwise none.

But lemme tell you why that is the case after wasting enough time pugging etc: it's not that these fights are THAT hard as you remember back then (not even close i'd think), if that's what it seems superficially, is because most of the players left to kill em are often unprepared, overly casual when it comes to customizing toggles/sets/***for specific fights and unable to seriously coordinate with a team or following strategies correctly.

I rarely see pugs executing strats flawlessly and timing out due to not meeting dps check, most of the time ppl wipe to half-executed strats, dumb ***, trivial mistakes and totally avoidable and always deterministic issues. We can't compare these groups to REAL players, REAL groups. Real groups can communicate, coordinate and have difficult conversations when needed too.

Regarding this sentence: "The number of people who can't clear any V25s with 6 real players: Probably over 10,000 across all servers" is misleading. I'm sorry but most times you won't be pugging with 5 other "real players". We shouldn't think of v25 kills as individual achievements, you clear if the whole group is good enough to clear, it's NEVER up to you alone. You can be BiS with Limbus r30 set and you'd still wipe if 1 critical role sucked.

Tbh everytime I pugged v25 since i came back, i've never seen 1 helper with the clear join to have some fun... and tbh i think i now know why, v25 pugs quality is so low these days that honestly if they value their time enough, i can't blame them for not joininig nor trusting others over such delicate and strategic fights.

But ye, pls, lets stop making it sound like it has to do purely with the individual player. It's a *** privilege to find or form a PROPER v25 t3 group. It has always been about privilege and an extra layer of "rng" in order to find both a team prepared/serious enough that can also can play the same days/hours as you.

I am sure on paper many will say they love Gaol fights, v25, reclearing for ppl while sitting with capped RP etc etc.
But in reality I didn't see anyone of such players join any pug/v25 group personally since i came back, when 2 years ago it was a thing for sure. I also LOVE gaol fights and often help ppl reclearing v20-25 but i know it can be a miserable experience pretty quickly once you're stuck in there with a clueless team, so the risk of wasting a lot of time without having fun is still moderately high.

What would the party setup look like?

I've been using
BRD/COR/GEO/RDM/SAM/SAM

RDM > Protect V / Shell V

Guess you can have a friend
Outside the party do that thought
By Akumasama on 2026-03-24 02:30:45
I used to help people (back when I wasn't even level 75, in 2004) and then they always disappeared when it was turn to help me.
Basically you would go there as an external party member (that way you don't get the level cap) and kill everything in range, so that nothing aggroes the NPC.
Easy Peazy.

Doing it alone is impressively hard.
Speaking of which if you're on Asura and need a help I'm willing to! But only if you return the favour :-P

Just a few more thoughts that came up:

In MagicWS/hybrid zerg setups i'd try BST instead of RDM, BRD could do 2nd march and if needed go /WHM or /SCH (if it's not an hybrid setup where they can spam savage to contribute more), as bringing a SCH for storms2 alone isn't worth it imo, best to have another DD or an utility job which can also DD, like a COR, RDM or BST! A 2nd COR adding wizard or tactician/miser while still DDing with Savage/Leaden/Hot Shot could also work.

BST in particular synergizes well for magic or hybrid setups thanks to Zhivago pet:
- 1 charge fan shaped AoE dispelga
- 2 charges fan shaped AoE -25 magic defense bonus with long enough duration since scales with tp while stacking with Geo-Malaise towards -50MDB debuff cap, increasing both hybrids and magicWS damage even further.

Might be a rare chance for most decked out BSTs to use their Aymur Primal Rend set or Farsha Cloudsplitter with hybrid or magic WS oriented setups, definitely worth trying if you have the chance to bring a good BST in such a scenario.

- Acuex pet also has AoE -25 Magic Def Bonus (2 charges ready move), but with fixed 60 seconds duration instead.

New redone Version is UP

- Complete code overhaul mvoign away from staggered if-then-else to a table lookgofr for much better performance
- Some stability issue with logic in the command handling function has been fixed
- CPU optimization by going from math.modf() to math.floor()
- Got relic + forggten stages working
- Got Empyrian + seals upgrade trades going
- Add a lot of Super warp commands

Todo:
- organize the date entries better
- try to unify the multiple KI trade with the main trade table
- Try to unify the Upgrade trade tables with the main trade table

Ive been considering getting path c morgelai since one of my alts is almost always rdm and increasing that regen 2 potency from 23 (+1 RUN ear, R0 bunzi feet) to 48 seems really nice for the duration it has. Ofc boosting regen4 from run is also an portion when I'm being less lazy. No sch :(
But that's a hefty price tag. Does anyone with path c morgelai feel like there are semi consistent situations where morgelai made a "large" difference? I'm trying to figure out if its worth it in some way I'm not seeing, without asking is it worth it," because the answer is almost always "it depends." Already have epeolatry of it matters.

Todays Beta have been uploaded

- More of the horrible if-then-else structure has been converted into tables.
- The math bug is confirmed to have impacted everything so a lot of data to fix
- Bug fixed a lot of those math both but still plenty to go
- New table structure designed that should work towards e more unified table structure

What im hoping for since that will atleast possibly make them more than dmg sticks, though i assume you just mean power wise

And probably be the original white versions of the Dyna D weapons (blurred weapons).

Community hype/peer pressure made Kraken Club the absurd price that it is right now. I haven't used mine in months, and really only use it on BST or Naegling RNG (hence the months). Kraken club isn't really "worth" a billion gil, it just got hyped up a lot. I probably wouldn't even be able to sell it for a 900M in today's market. But its still an ultra fun weapon to use.

Eiryl's right, though. All of those factor into why Krakens aren't moving on Asura. RMT can't mass buy them and move them to another server (without losing the account from Asura), and people won't migrate here just for a Kraken only to not be able to return home. The result is tons of clubs people don't have anything to do with.

There's a couple of other things that killed off KC too. Weapon Skill walls; Normally you pair KC with Naegling and Savage spam all the things, people now want each DD to kind of have their own strong unique WS, so group damage doesn't dip too low. Prime weapons are strong enough, SC very well, and don't wall another person unless it's the same job/weapon. Primes are another indirect reason why KC fell off. An example would be DRG would normally use KC and spam Savage, but Gae Buide 4/5 is just amazing. I've heard from many people (myself included) who enjoy using Prime instead of Savage/Kclub, and if you need to Savage, just sub WAR. You unlock Judgment. You pair Prime weapons with Hoxne Ampulla and the right STP build, and you gain TP at an absurd rate. I can't really think of many jobs after DRG that benefit a lot from Kraken Club (BST mostly, RNG, BRD kinda?)

I'm surprised it hasn't tanked in price (nobody wants to be the guy to drop it to 50% asking price)

Maybe fern stones able to be bought with gil end game?

The turn-based mini-game gives a bunch of fern stones, especially from higher ranked spriggans. Though, Rawhide & Psycloth can be rerolled with the Gravewood Logs, which is probably easier than farming fern stones.

Man, that Training Dummy was the best and most obvious Easter Egg ever once I saw it, great job, very fitting.

I haven't gotten a chance to read through all of your posts here or on reddit, do you have a Patreon or anything where people can donate to make updates more worth your time and effort? I think quite a few people would love to reward the time, effort and love that you have put into this.

Between running a business, family, friends, etc I just don't have time for even casual FFXI these days, and as others have said this is a perfect way to scratch that itch.

I initially wasn't using Hitaki with Zesho when I first made Stage 4 Dokoku (because I pride R30 Kunimitsu, RIP), but the damage is literally night and day difference. You can't not use it with Dokoku, or you might as well not be using NIN at all. The whole "Damage Varies with TP" modifier basically always means those TP Bonus offhands are BIS for WS.

Zesho - nyame head over mpaca's...is this just because you are holding TP enough such that the TP bonus on mpaca is worthless/there is a bigger gain from nyame?

Simon posted the ideal gearset for Zesho some time ago, and it had Hitaki in offhand (not sure if it had Nyame head or Mpaca, but besides the point). Every WS is at minimum 2250 with Moonshade. Even though Euvedant originally posted gearset with Kunimitsu offhand, in the video he showcased he very clearly is using Hitaki, or WSing at 3k eff TP anyways. He even said he can push damage higher with Hoxne Earring, but he would have to drop probably Moonshade for it instead of the PDL from JSE+2 earring. So TP Bonus gear is doing nothing after a certain point, and devalued with a TP Bonus offhand, especially for a job like NIN that will almost certainly over TP with TA+Daken proc or Hoxne DA proc. You can't always WS at exactly 2k and guarantee you get full benefit of Mpaca head/Moonshade earring, so at effective TP 3k, TP bonus stuff should be the first to go.

Ahem.

There are people in this forum that have 6-boxed v25s.

The number of people who can successfully 6-box any V25: Probably less than 10 across all servers

The number of people who can't clear any V25s with 6 real players: Probably over 10,000 across all servers

The exception doesn't disprove the rule.
