I made a Let's Play of FFXI that's technically still going, because I'm special(ed). :^)

It includes all major storylines, loads of quests, all AF quests (except RUN and GEO, but I could change that...), all WSNM quests, all of Abyssea, and is done at restricted levels such that everything isn't immediately destroyed. Sometimes I even refuse to use Trusts, just to have a little more satisfaction in a story fight or something silly like that.

As far as actual game things go, I was the first person or one of the first persons to get a Vermeil Bhuj when Abyssea first came out. Haven't had a week like that, since. Non-stop tells, "How did you get that Gaxe? Where did you get that Gaxe? Was it hard to get that Gaxe?" And the upsetti spaghetti vibe from my LS leaders who were hip deep in 2000 killshots needed to upgrade relic weapons to lower base damage than said Bhuj. Not a high that lasted long, but very memorable, for sure.

Nowadays I don't think there's anything I've gotten to first, or that someone else isn't already versed in better than me.

But I guess I can say I've gotten all of Borghertz's hands, and that mofo is still trapped in the toolbox.

I was first 100 NA CC on Siren. I did a bunch of fun RDM solos too but i was never as good as Avesta, nor did i ever record or stream anything.

I made a tarutaru back in 2002. I fought valiantly against the Onion outside the gate. I was down to red HP but he was also about to die! I used benediction! He used photosynthesis! I wiffed with my spoon. He regened back to full. I ran back into the town. Died at the gate.

I remake a Hume, Monk this time. No more spoon wielding white mage shorty. Fought valiantly against the ugly saplings. Then something hit me in the back! It was Leaping Lizzy! I hundred fists. The sapling was down but I still had that lizard on me. I died before hundred fists expired. Some evil Mithra took the NM. I was devastated. But a JP War/Whm raised me! I was happy. War/Whm was best!

I think this was so early back then when JP people was still nice and worked for free raising noobs.

Well ffxiah uses guildwork to determine that, so someone off the grid could also have it.

Skill has nothing to do with song duration. Only Song Duration +% and "Specific Song Name Here" + gear.

me and my friend were/are... strange... pre sparks nerf we would farm reisenjima portal 2 every wednesday for gain exp. but for some reason we would prefer to fight for the camp instead of Teaming up... so every wednesday for 2-4 hours he would steal my mobs (i should note we were both blue, he was career i was more newbish gear wise) and i would try to mpk him. needless to say it was a fun 4 hours..


this isnt anything a Normal person would brag about... but it was honestly a fun time for the both of us, and we still made plenty of gil. even me who would die often as i would focus more on getting him instead of farming sparks.

I'm having a great time playing it. Worth every penny. You can just fast forward if you think it's too slow.

It really isn't slow because you can hold the R1 button for speed up. I like that it has trophies for PSN, usually gives me something to do with the games. I don't think its worth the price tag though, it is just a really lazy cash grab. I love FF games and FFT but they did it so lazily. The voice acting is cringe British, really forced to the point they even have the VA for Aerith doing a fake accent. Then they actually removed the coolest job from the game in DRK and when they had the chance to add online play in modern game era, they removed it... Just makes 0 sense. Preserving the original game isn't an excuse because they added things that weren't there before so.

I don't think I did anything particularly noteworthy "back in the day". I killed most of the bosses but I wasn't some superhero, didn't have REM, etc.

In the modern era though, I'm really proud of having done V0, 5, 10, 15, 20, & 25 of every single Odyseey boss. I'm fairly certain I did this twice, though I'm not 100% certain if my alt actually did every tier on the lower ones...I think I did though.

Beyond that, it took a *** of work to make all 8 of the crafting shields and I'm really proud of that. It's a bit of a spicy take but especially in an age when basically everyone is botting crafts, botting cards, and botting the synthesis focuser, I'm also proud of the fact that I did it without any third party tools at all. I did buy (a lot of) spheres from other people who probably botted them, so it's a bit of a grey area, but I doubt anyone's prepared to throw out their mythics because they bought alexandrite off the AH so...I still think it counts.

I've subsequently made myself a collection of all the +2 necks, all the Su5 weapons, and a couple Altana's Repast+2, all made by me and signed by shields I made, which was a fun side project.

Empy head instead of relic head, for the extra free stats. Otherwise, you're gonna need to be a lot more specific by what you mean with "I may be misunderstanding what this thread is talking about" because I have no idea what your question is.

There was a guy who was wrong about how long the timers were, so he thought AF+4 added extra time. People told him he was wrong or confused.

I mean, this isn't exactly difficult as much as prohibitively time-consuming, and nobody is ever going to do it again because there's no point in it but...

Back when Abyssea was the activity of choice, when empyrean the hot new thing, you would have to go around and fight NMs for your seals, make sure you get the yellow proc, decide who gets what, all that. I actually established my current triobox setup because I wanted to be able to cover every yellow stagger - blm/brd, blu/nin, and whm/rdm if I remember correctly.

(Incidentally my blue mage, Merantha, did the 75 limit break for the first time on blu long before trusts were a thing, I've heard that was a bit of an accomplishment but it's hardly special.)

If you didn't get to do the right NMs, or other people were ahead of you in the lotting queue, or you just had bad luck with it, though, there was another option... the quests.

Each seal had I think two quests associated with it. You'd have to do the hardest version of the quest or complete it without error to get a chance to drop one, and then if you did, it was like a 10% drop for one of four random seals. Not a realistic option, really; it was just a scrap they tossed us for picking up an extra seal if you really needed it.

I completed all five pieces of my caller's attire +1 set with seals gathered exclusively through quest completion. I contributed something like 200 data points to each quest's drop table on FFXIclopedia, but sadly that hasn't survived the turbulence that wiki's suffered over the years.

I haven't enjoyed an endgame event since hnms and I still play daily.

I was able to solo Automaton Assault 60 cap ENM a long time ago on NIN/RNG not long after the fight was released. Even wrote up a guide for the fight on the talk page. This probably doesn't mean much to anybody unfamiliar, but at the time it was kind of tricky to beat back then solo without any third party tools or party support. Got my Zedoma Earring, which was like a galka trophy. The poster on the talk page is buukki from Lakshmi, so evidently thats me. Also shows how long I've loved and been playing the Ninja job. Was a very proud moment in my solo adventures (2009 I think?)

I've soloed multiple quested WS NMs at 75 cap on bst, with charmed pets.

Including Ifrit's Cauldron guy (Retribution) and Den of Rancor guy (Spiral Hell).

Its appealing if you enjoy first party Microsoft games and indies. The problem is and always has been...top tier Microsoft games are very rare. The glory days of Halo, Gears and good COD are long over. So you are still going to have to pay full price for those big AAA titles that we listed a few pages back.
