It's hard to avoid DA/TA in gear, so what if you have some DA/TA? Well, your DA is useless now due to the 100% native DA rate and the TA is only 1 hit/round better than the DA you would have gotten without it. +1 reason you're getting 1000 TP slower than if you used any other GKT.
Unless im misunderstanding that vid buukki posted, da/ta and such all roll before ambus effect, zanshin however rolls after so thats neutered. In nins case daken works but the oat proc on gkt sets your effective stp on that round to 0 so its nerfed hard at high stp
You would need to intentionally lower your STP to somewhere in the mid range to have like a guaranteed OAT1 proc rate, and then fill the rest of your gear with DA/TA/QA. So half of your attacks would return the full benefit of STP but be multiple attacks, while the other half give a fixed TP return but are guaranteed to be doubled. If you exceed 100STP, your MA as far as I'm aware is "wasted" (unsure if MA can still proc prior to OAT if >100STP is met).
It's a quirky weapon that I have used on occasion just to have fun with, but it does require a unique set to get the "most" out of it. You'd have to know ahead of time how much Samurai Roll STP you're getting to maximize it (maybe GearInfo can do it, but that's too confusing for me) |

Why you would not sure, defense down?
That's the primary purpose of the GKT and I carry one for applying Defense Down. If you want to have fun with GKT's Hybrid WS (the light-aligned elements), it's a strong weapon as well.
Beryllium Tachi can be used to also apply defense down as an alternative, and doubles as an option to apply silence via Tachi: Gekko (or bring a Levante Dagger).
The kaja version is still a better investment for ninja, correct?
Depends on how you define "better". NIN Doesn't have stellar Great Katana skill to begin with, and the HQ version has higher accuracy/magic accuracy, so if what you care about is applying Defense Down, the HQ version > Kaja version. |

Not a brit, but I always saw the monarchy as more of an expression of heritage than any meaningful influence. Not really sure what to make of the happening, it seems to me that since the monarchy rarely if ever wields government power it shouldn't matter that much if they choose to kick someone out of it.

I get this is kind of tongue-in-cheek but...there's no more "reason" to make a Caladbolg than there is "reason" to make a Helheim. You make them because they do a lot of damage.
I find it really strange that in an MMO it's perfectly normal to chase +1 light elemental resistance for your THF idle set on the off chance you're clipped by a stray Diffusion Ray while kiting, but we draw the line at getting another 10% DPS on DRK (made up numbers) because "you don't need it." I don't think it's normal to chase idle gear. I think it's normal to learn how to kite so you don't have to chase idle gear. I would only suggest to someone that they chase gear that's critical to their role/function.
If a player wants +1 Light Elemental resist to go from 0 to 1/8 (12.5% chance of a resist), I say go for it. But to your point, if someone is sacrificing DT in their idle set or Haste in their TP set, their effort is wasted because they're making a premature optimization. (This happens all the time because it's easy for some players to get overwhelmed by how many variables are at play in a game like FFXI).
I would just make sure their optimizations are appropriate for the situation being discussed. Otherwise, trade-offs and risk assessments exist. SE implemented FAFO before Dark Souls existed as a genre.

Let's say SE created elemental instances of Limbus/Apollyon (Fire, Ice, Earth, Thunder etc). BUT ...Instead of Elemental Resistance affecting your defensive capabilities, you are able to deal increased damage based on your Elemental+ gear/spells. If you're in a Fire-aligned zone, wear more Fire+ to deal more Damage. If you're in an Earth-aligned zone, wear more Earth+ to deal more Damage. There's a lot of ways SE can do this.
But on the topic of THF wanting +1 Light Elemental resistance, I say go for it, if they're doing fine in their other responsibilities. This game is meant to be entertainment, do what you enjoy. (I think mine is theory-crafting). |
