1) Know someone with a shield
2) Pay someone to use their shield
3) Pay to have your own shield

P.S. Tipping sucks. No one likes tipping. That part of American culture needs to die and even suggesting that its acceptable (but not a fee, oh no!) is so braindead.

I think it is fair the guy offer his service for a price and be clear about it, far better than asking for a tip (tipping is so American)

@tarage He offering service to everyone (customers mainly); not everyone can befriend / ask for free from friends with shield.

Beside it doesnt cost only 6 sec for for someone with shield .. it was an investment for such amount of time and money (can be 2-3billions at peak) to put on the machine in PJ. It also does not only cost 6 sec but rather chatting, agreeing time, gather time, food, HQ crystal. And popping a shield also mean u cant do that again in next 60min (unless u have custome lined up which is unlikely, paid customer sometimes doesnt like to wait)

He's offering a PAID service. I don't care if it's an investment, unless you are physically buying and then crafting the ***, don't be a ***. I don't think that's somehow an insane argument given that multiple people in this thread all came to the same conclusion.

Asking people to tip you if they can = good.
Charging to have the privilege to use your shield = bad.

If you can't understand this, I suggest you should either shut up or walk into traffic.

Their challenge has been creating new characters that we actually care about. I lean more towards the Dark Side and they haven't done a great job of giving us new Sith that are fun and menacing. My bar is usually "Is this guy as cool as Maul? Or as dangerous? No? Then why am I here."

The Nihil are pirates. And you know, I liked Hondo. He was cool and all, but he didn't scare nobody. If they are going to do something with the High Republic, they need to work on their villains.
I think it would be a neat idea to make a show that's basically Imperial propaganda where it's from the pov of a cast of Imperials, maybe using Saw and the Partisans as the primary villains or something. It would be a neat thing to make the heroes the bad guys.

I prefer the idea of "gray Jedi" but more in the sense of what Baylan and Shin are, they don't really seem evil, definitely not Sith.

Yes imagine being able to roll up as a sandworm to Odyssey or something. I think that would be cool and fun and open the doors to a lot of different playstyles. The Morpher job could equip different things before transforming to be able to give abilities, stats or unique effects. Now they have to add Time Mage, Chemist and Morpher

Apparently FFT gonna get DLC? Hope we get the DRK class

I definitely hope they take another look at Monstrosity. They need to finish the species list at the very least.

It'd really spice things up if they let us use Monstrosity in certain content. I'd be MUCH more enthused about making another mythic if I could be a lynx traipsing through Nyzul or a manticore rampaging through Ein. Same deal for relics/dyn and emps/abys.

...and if I could have my amphiptere stalking through Sortie for a prime I would be So. Happy.

I hate BST! Time to delete it

Although I had an idea to turn monstrosity into a Morpher job. That let's you transform into your monster you leveled up and upgraded. That would be more fun than BST

The video that made me look after 1000xResist, it is a pretty emotional one, that discuss one of the strongest theme in any media.

The concept of full circle. The idea of going back to the beginning after a journey.

The symbolic means of this is: after a journey and we are back to the beginning, what we must carry on, and what we leave behind.

This simple concept is ultimately the concept of evolving as a specie.

I'd like to see a High Republic animated series or a movie trilogy about the Nihil crisis.

1000x Resist recap.

Very impressive story.

A little too convoluted, but just hearing the world building of it, I feel like despair for how all of this went.

Anyone run numbers on Duty set for monk (with augs)?

Large boost, minimal boost, some pieces good/some not? just curious to hear some other opinions on it.

I am also very much looking forward to Shadow Lord.

Beastmaster Erasure.

I have a number of posts on this forum suggesting that they should've done a better job of tying all the monster-related activities to one another. BST, Pankration, monster rearing, Monstrosity, mounts. They could've done some cool things, but the disjointed nature of development over time meant they missed all those opportunities.

Soul plates could've been equippable on your monstrosity species. Monstrosity species level could've changed output from collecting items from that species in mog garden. Reared monsters could've been able to fight in the coliseum.

Progress in any of these areas could give BST low-level, always-on Cheer-like effects - whether only on the beastmaster or as pet species or family-dependent buffs. And you could make a similar argument wrt BLU.

I'm also disappointed they didn't find more things to do with the maze tabula/rune and evolith systems. Lots of ways to augment various things that they just aren't using. Maybe the pending changes to trusts will see something like tabula/runes - same runes for all buffs, different tabula based on trust role? /shrug

I'm looking forward to Shadow Lord.

I actually started rewatching The Acolyte purely for the High Republic world and the lightsaber fights. Also Mae in her Assassin garb is kinda hot.

SE contuining the bright arts line, these are pretty cool at JP price... The price gouging even from SE store is ridiclous, double the price.

I want that!

Forgot about this until seeing a thread on macros bump up just now.
Anyways seems like the method never got posted so here it is roughly, might take some googling for your specific OS since I use Windows 7, 10 and 11 support this though. Also it's a bit of a pain to do.

Basically in Windows you already have "System Protection" turned on for the drive that has FFXI installed on it so it's taking what I think are snapshots of the drive on some routine schedule for restore points. Having it on will save old versions of the macro files.

As a precaution before trying this you can use FFXIConfig's "In Game Settings" Save feature in case you're afraid of screwing up anything further.

If you ever have a situation where your macro palette got wiped you can try this:

1. Edit a macro in that palette with a searchable word like "MissingMacroHere" or anything that can be searched easily.

2. Log out or might even have to quit out the game entirely. I've tried zoning and that didn't always work so if you want to try that instead your mileage my vary.

3. Use a program like Notepad++ with its "Find in Files" function to search your ..\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\USER folder wherever you have the game installed for the keyword (i.e. "MissingMacroHere") you saved in the wiped macro palette prior.

4. Once you have the filename and its location in the search result you can navigate to it in explorer, check its properties, go to the previous versions tab and copy the old version out to someplace like desktop then back in over the current one (at least on win7 for me, my restore button is busted idk why) or just hit restore on an older version if that works for you.

Note: You can try opening the file before copy over to confirm it more or less has the macros in it you remember, it will be a little mangled looking in a text editor because of how the file is formatted, but the old hand written macro lines should be evident.

5. Log back in to see the macros restored.

Sorry if details aren't as clear as they should be, but hopefully this points people in the right direction and saves some grief.

This is a great idea and is very resourceful, thank you for sharing this with us!

If they're going to allow us to level up trusts and they're going to introduce mounts with special effects... well, I propose they let us level up mounts to gain special effects.

Would be nice to have a mount glow to match an afterglowed weapon, for instance.

Mastery rank is part of 0x01B, which shows up on zone, and at least some of the time when you check your status/title.
Code
-- Job Info
fields.incoming[0x01B] = L{
...
    {ctype='unsigned char', label='Mastery Rank'}, -- 66
...
}

If you open the equip menu then check the status, for certain rank up conditions, you can see a change without zoning.
...Possibly related, though I'm not actually certain: Opening the equip menu triggers a 0x063 incoming (merit points update) even though you're not in the "status" menu, which is where Merit Points are actually visible.

(this may or may not be because it also stores Monstrosity info in that packet and HNM status gives you more points to equip Instincts, that's my best guess)

Does Mastery Rank come in that one, and not 0x061 (same place as your own title)? Just a Pavlovian reaction to "hey I recognize [thing]", not a relevant post, but asking the real wizards.

If you make macro alterations it does not save them unless you zone or logout and back in, if you spend hours on macros and crash before doing those you'll lose them all.

It should but if you're still changing jobs in quick succession, it may still happen. This was often the case for me in Odyssey. I stopped using those macro_book functions entirely because of it.

My personal solution was to make a job commmand across all my jobs that checked what my main/sub were and then input the vanilla commands to apply that lockstyle and macro set. I used to use autoexec plugin a long time ago before that stopped working, but I couldn't figure out how to get the new addon version to work.
By AmarokPhoenix on 2026-01-11 07:48:36
I had this and found in my lua I was calling the function twice

select_default_macro_book()

It was in the user setup and the job setup sections. removed one of them and hoping it fixes it.
