Dark Dawn wasnt THAT bad, it just wasn't anywhere near as good as the first two. They kinda set the bar REALLY high. It's hard to achieve perfection three times in a row.
I have all three Golden Sun games, actually. My nephew keeps bugging me to cough up the original and Lost Age, but I refuse.

I didn't know there was a third and the 2nd I didn't like as much as the first, didn't even finish it.

I remember finishing GS and GS2, and while I did get the 3rd one, dont think i put more than 2hrs in it

was it DS or 3DS?
and yeah I know it covers stuff like that, but after so long, i can barely remember the happenings on the previous games asides endings, and just felt blah early in the game.

Might just be using them as a compass or drawn because they supposedly exist? Like people used to draw sea monsters on maps

There's some islands north of Eorzea that has viking ships. Maybe we can get viking from there in the future.
