0008
Rare error, a reboot usually fixes it. Mostly seen on windows 98 PC's that have been running for hours on end without a reboot.

0011
DNS reset during transfer.

0019
Server down

0033
Server down or DNS reset during transfer.

0205
Unknown error during update (rare)

0250
Router problem. See if you can update your software/firmware for your router, this may help.. Can also be caused by a server issue. If on a network where are multiple PC's using the same nvidia NIC, this can also happen.

0512
Packet time out. Usually caused by a bad internet connection or people hammering the update server all at once. Can also be a router problem. If on a network where are multiple PC's using the same nvidia NIC, this can also happen.

1153
Router problem. See if you can update your software/firmware for your router, this may help.

1155
Update server down

1160
Update server down

1161
Internet connection lost. Also caused by some viruses.

1162
Router problem. See if you can update your software/firmware for your router, this may help.

1164
Installation issue occurring in certain computers with over 1gb ram before Playonline patch to bypass, remove some ram temporarily. Once you have updated the playonline software you can put it back.

1305
Installation error again, see fixes above

1311
Installation error, see above

1334
SSL error during registration. Thats "secure socket layer". check network and internet options settings form the control panel, and you might need to visit windows update.

1335
Installation file error, see fixes above.

1607
Installation error, see above

1608
This one happens during installation, from outdated installer components, see windows update or http://consumer.installshield.com/utilities.asp to fix that.

1628
Installation error, see above

1647
Installation error, see above

2001
Hardware T&L not detected. Usually seen when some genius installs FFXI on a PC that doesn't meet the requirements in the video department, sometimes when a driver is just not getting along with FFXI. Upgrade video card, or if you have a really fast CPU and and don't mind piss poor performance, you can try T&L emulation. If your certain your video card is an ATI or NVdia that should be able to run FFXI, try upgrading or downgrading (yes older version) the video driver. Sometimes FFXI doesn't play nice with new drivers.

2003
Corrupted game file. uninstall and re-install ffxi

2059
disconnect during update, commonly seen error when PC is bugged/virus'ed

2070
unknown connection error.

2211
This one happens during installation, from outdated installer components, see windows update or http://consumer.installshield.com/utilities.asp to fix that.

3100
Connection issue, misrouted packets. Somewhere between you and the lobby server a packet that was important went "poof". This can be on either your end or SE's. This error also occurs if SE has your IP range or specific IP address blocked. If your IP is to close to one of the IP's that they have been DDOS'ed from, you may wind up in a blocked range. SE refuses to acknowledge these even exist. Your ISP may be able to help you, but thats a longshot. Please note getting this error does not mean 100% for sure you have been blocked.

3101
Unknown server issue, tends to go hand in hand with 3100 though I do not yet know specifically what this one is yet.

3113
Network components or FFXI installation invalid. Check on your network to make sure basic things like "client for Microsoft network" aren't missing or corrupt. If you see this error code on the ps2 version, its likely your ISP or mis configured firewall+internet connection sharing causing it.

3203
Unknown issue with zone specific servers
Usually means the zone you tried to enter/log into a character that was in, is down.

3206
Unknown server issue

3305
"Unable to connect to world server. Specified operation failed."
Usually means the world of the character you tried to log onto is down.

3307
This one is misleading. It says "Same character already logged in" which makes the end user think either A)someone hacked me! or B)stupid server thinks my character is still in. What really happened is it detected multiple connection attempts and blocked you for several minutes, this is why you do not even make it to the character selection menu. If you get the error after selecting your character, then it is because your character is still logged in server side.

3324
Corrupt zone file. If you know which file (run the checker in POL viewer) you can try and remove and replace it with a non corrupt copy, other than that, all you can do is uninstall and reinstall FFXI

3332
This is the Lobby server saying all servers are down. Yes DOWN. Just wait till SE gets them back up, go outside, get some sun, get in trouble, anything. Its going to a be an hour or 20.

4001
UDP ports are being blocked or UDP packets miss-routed. Change your firewall, or reset/power cycle your router, or contact your router manufacturer or internet service provider (ISP) to get this fixed. If on a network where are multiple PC's using the same nvidia NIC, this can also happen.

4002
Packet time out. Usually caused by a bad internet connection or people hammering the lobby server all at once. Can also be a router problem. If on a network where are multiple PC's using the same nvidia NIC, this can also happen.

12321
Xbox error, only solved by uninstalling and then installing and re-downloading updates from scratch. Microsoft should be shot for this one.

20008002
Desktop not set to 32 bit color depth. Usually a screwed up driver, or sometimes a desktop set to 16 bit (who still does that?). FFXI flips out if it doesn't have its 32 bit colored crack from the video driver.

I notice that most people posting are in Europe. It's possible that there is a network issue, potentially at a peering point, between Europe and Japan which is dropping packets or otherwise jacking the connection. As the problem results in random data corruption, your client can't really determine what's wrong, and throws back random errors at you.

The internet works by handing your packets off from your ISP, to other 3rd party ISP's, in a long chain from the source to the destination. This is called "peering." Your ISP, and SE's hosts, make up only about the first and last 5% of that chain.

If there's any problem with an ISP or peering connection between your ISP and Japan, it will surface as random connection issues until they fix it.

However, if the problem was on SE's end, it would effect everyone in the world equally. This doesn't seem to be the case, so it's likely a 3rd party peering problem somewhere. Unfortunately, SE doesn't get to pick which networks your connection peers through, so it's completely outside of their control.

I guess its possible that you are right jaerik, but that wouldnt explain the different between different zones.

I've been walking, chocoing, teleporting, warping between lots off zones to see which ones that works and which dont.

If I had connection problem in all zones your explaination would make sense.

Jeuno, la theine, mhuara, bubu, selbina, yhoator are some of the zones that works perfect for me.

Valkurm, Whitegate, onzozo, yuhtunga, kazham are zones where I have constatly R0, and get connection % down as low to 30%, but not really disconnecting.

One thing you guys could try in this thread is a traceroute.

Go to Start, Run (or Search under Win7), and type "cmd"

At the prompt, run "tracert www.playonline.com"

Watch how many different ISPs the connection goes through. See if at any point you start getting *'s, indicating a failed route. Run it a few times. If you do get any bad routes or slow links in the chain, post it here to see if anyone else is having problems at the same location. Perhaps others in this thread will recognize a common point of failure.

It's conceivable that www.playonline.com is not the correct box to try tracerouting to, but it's better than nothing.
