I figured they just decided to toss all of the typical medieval European stuff into Sandy. i.e. Arrogant French guys with bagpipe theme music and German-named armor.

SE: "Meh, it all came from that same general area, right?"

Sure, we'll also throw any and all Japanese, Chinese, and Korean lore into one big pile and see if you guys don't get your panties in a twist, blol.

True. I always wince whenever there's some "ninja" movie with Chinese actors and plenty of background shots of the Hong Kong skyline. Or samurai eating egg rolls, etc. I think my favorite was some period piece about the Han Dynasty that involved sushi.

Would be hard to be historically and mythologically accurate with all the variables in history and various cultural lore with what a video game's limits are.

Augh, that's pretty bad. Honestly though I'd be fine with this "cross-culture amalgamation" if the game developers/story writers were a little less exclusive about who they do and don't toss into the blender. Either go all the way or don't do it at all.

EDIT

I agree on that as well. I just grimace over the fact that it's okay to mix some cultures together while it's taboo for those they identify with.

Interesting. Might have to reconsider coming to XIV. Just depends how busy college gets. If it's anything like it is now, that's a no-go.

Lohengarde look *** cooooooool. Still not playing GALAK because of how sextacular the elfs are, but it's looking like taru or mithra are going to be the new galka lolrace in XIV. I just pray all the overly talkative mancats and huge *** mithras opt into humes instead of elfs.*

*Note: FF makes you super *** racist.

Ninja Assassin, starring... a bunch of Chinese and Korean guys.

Or perhaps Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift, which features lots of super epic sweeping panorama shots of... the Hong Kong skyline. Oops.

If I can remember the Han-Dynasty-warriors-eating-sushi movie I'll post it.

The Shin Megami Tensei series does mythology and folklore pretty well. Being accurate to mythology didn't stop these guys from featuring a Buddhist demon resembling a giant green penis on a chariot.

Except their portrayal of Odin, Loki, and Thor is just weird. Why they are beardless purple-skinned half-naked men is beyond me.

The neck torque thing is a strategy used by many developers to cover the seam of the stock body, with the highly customizable head. Any game that let's you have high amounts of detail control over the facial structures tends to have a seam that separates the "Unique" face from the cookie cutter body. A necklace/torque is one way to attractively cover that.
