The idea is to set up attacks that chain well together for your team and just button mashing doesn't work all that well because they can mess up eachothers attacks knocking the enemy out of range and what not. More complicated bits to it as well but thats the core of it.
Ahhh well that makes much more sense. Just watching the battles didn't help me any because I couldn't tell what the player was actually inputting. Geez sounds like I need to pick this game up whenever my Dissidia fever wears off.

Not 100% sure if thats how the PSP one would work but i assume it plays on a similar system to the second game (ps2). At first i thought the system was kinda sucky but after a while i found it really good.

Yeah VP is awesome! <3 Though the DS title isn't that good in my opinion. PSP version is pretty much the same as PSX I think.
