This really is an all-mages question. Is Vedic Coat still usefull for the Conserve MP +10? It only has 67 MP, and most endgame gear has 80+ for mage jobs. I feel like I could free up the inventory space, but I was wondering if any mages still use it (warps, teleports, raises...)

I like it for geomancy spells. Saves MP on those expensive geo~ casts.

I guess it kind of depends then. How much MP does your idle/precast body have? If you're dropping a sizeable amount of MP just to gain CMP+10, then you're effectively 'robbing peter to pay paul' and it's not a good swap.

Example (using my own gear scenario):
idle in Shamash Robe > 88 MP
precast in Inyanga Jubbah +2 > 90 MP (MP stays the ~same in for body slot)
midcast in vedic coat > 67 MP > You lose at least 21 MP just making the swap

Now you can make up the Conserve MP elsewhere, but if you don't you drop from a 100% chance at reduced cost vs 90% chance of reduced cost + 10% chance of full cost. Is the 27 MP you are losing every time you cast said spell simply by swapping to Vedic body worth the 10% chance to pay full MP for the spell?

Seems like a nightmare to sim all that out and determine what is optimal in a minmax scenario, so the lazy me just keeps it in my Geomancy set and calls it a day.

If I get this right then max MP matters only when you're MP bar is full. If you have reason to presume your MP bar is always full then you most likely don't need conserve MP in the first place.

In my experience MP bar is usually not 100% full for the majority of the time so imho this scenario is misleading. If you use swaps like hoxne ring for TH tag it definitely isn't full most of the time.

After asking ChatGPT, and exploring varies scenarios, my entire Conserve MP set is a waste of inventory. Vanya Path C (conserve MP set) even fails against itself (Vanya Path A as a non Conserve MP set, but with more added MP). Both pale in comparison to the MP you get from most endgame sets, and given that you only conserve so much on a handful of niche spells IF it procs...it doesn't seem worth keeping a set in the long run.

For warps and teleports? Who gives a ***.

For raise, i prioritize recast over cmp, and only put CMP in when possible.

For geo spells, I put in empy armor for a chance to get them totally free, rather than a chance to get them discounted. Plus you're already carrying the empy set anyway and it's defensively strong (you're often gonna be in the line of fire)

For blm, rdm, etc. There aren't spells I care about conserving MP but don't care about some kind of potency, duration, macc, etc.

Shichi's point about max MP is very good: it rarely matters and even when it does matter, you're at max MP so you don't need to care about optimizing.

Don't build conserve mp sets at all.

To add to my assessment, aside from teleports, warps, and raises, what spells would one use Conserve MP gear on? I'd imagine most/all other spells are enhanced by various modifiers (i.e., MAB, CHR, MND, INT, M.Acc, M.Skill, etc.).

Probably any high level GEO-Luopan spell, since they are twice the cost of Indi-spells and are in the 300s. So like Wilt Malaise Frailty Fade. You save like 85MP average per cast with a full set. But Conserve MP for Geomancy IMO is only as valuable as the need to recast Geomancy bubbles frequently. If you're doing a fight where you put a luopan down once and it never dies, CMP is kind of useless. You only really benefit from repetitive casts. Something like in Gaol on V25s where you need to keep bubbles up, and a Luopan dying often is an issue. For something like Aminon it's not an issue because you can Aspir MP back, so conserving MP on a cast is kinda meaningless.

Prety much anything with a fixed effect/value, such as what you listed. In the past i had CMP / enhancing duration telch for random hastes and such but that was pure boredom and not worth it.

After reading all your comments, and having a long chat with GPT, it looks like CMP still has utility, especially at < 75% MP pool and especially on BLM and GEO. I could stand to revise my sets, though. No need to retain some pieces.

Warps and teleports imho don't justify conserve MP. When those spells go thru you're zoning and and up somewhere save afterwards. Till you're back in a threatening scenario enough time should elapse that your idle sets refresh pushes your MP back to full.

Only exception where I could see that being not the case is maybe ambu KI, but there you usually job change for ability timer reset before you re-enter ambu anyway so...

I think there might be some BLU spells where conserve MP swaps for a couple of pieces could be justified.

I think I just approached Conserve MP wrong. I need to modify my sets. I can stand to add 1 piece, and lose 2 or 3 more. For me, I can only imagine that it would most matter for raises during battle or after a wipe when we're still in range of mobs or an NM. for other spells, Refresh would get it back before I'd need it again.

You might also be fundamentally misunderstanding how Conserve MP works, or the need for it in the first place. Or overvaluing it. I don't want to be dogmatic or create a rule for it, but in general, CMP has always been like one of the last stats to prioritize for any spell, when I am just out of things to gear for. Even then, I forget it exists. Normally the priority of stats goes to something like

FC (Haste, Cure Spellcasting -%), -DT%/Defense/Magic DB/Evasion (if in a midcast set), "Cure" Potency/II/+/MP Returned, -Enmity (WHM) etc. Then, if none of those things apply, something niche like Occasionally Quickens Spellcasting +%, Cursna Potency etc. Super far down the list after I've exhausted practically everything else is Conserve MP, if something like an Empyrean set bonus isn't applicable. There's so many other stats to gear for, CMP almost never makes it into my sets.

The only spells I ever geared for Conserve MP was Geomancy bubbles, but this was back from years ago during Geas Fete era, when the Luopan could die often frequently, so it was worth saving some MP on repeat casts (Before I had Idris and full pet-DT gear and JSE+2 neck). Now, the Luopan hardly dies with the right gear set, so you could argue saving a few MP during Luopan that you will only cast once is kind of needless. Also, nearly everything is Aspirable nowadays, so you can almost always get MP when needed. Saving it with Conserve MP IMO is not as important of a stat as I may have previously geared for (but I'm not going to change my sets now because its insignificant in the grand scheme). And then there's just tons of Refresh+ Idle stuff.

I feel like Conserve MP was a stat that made sense when you had to Conserve your mana because replenishment options were limited. In 2026, it's not a matter of priority IMHO.

I feel like Conserve MP was a higher value when we had a lot less access to high amounts of refresh too as you got more and more idle refresh it lost a lot of it's shine, similiarly to hmp from resting. Just realized you said the exact same thing above me apologies tired as hell today

I still find conserve MP great. The problem is pieces with conserve MP often bring nothing else to the table while you have to equip it during midcast.

What we'd need is gear with the expected standard perks + conserve MP on top.

I wouldn't worry about max mp for conserve mp set, you should be using mephitas ring and shinjutu-no-obi for most conserve mp sets which goes a long ways towards mitigating any max mp issues.

Like many have said they can be nice especially for geo spells but it doesn't matter unless you cast them a lot or have other uses for the mp. Geo just doesn't have much else to stack once the skill is handled and they are such expensive spells.

As far as whm goes conserve mp is kind of just for when theres nothing else you can get out of a slot in midcast. I just don't see using the body unless SE breaks hp warps when they do their update and whm taxi services come back.

I don't really prioritize CMP. In fact, I really just started thinking about its value as I try to clean up inventory space.

Would definitely be the first set to go if you needed to free up space. Resting for mp hasn't been relevant for over a decade, and in relatively shorter events (Gaol bosses), if convert or sublmation or ballads or whatever else you're getting isn't enough, you have your team put vile elixirs in bazaars.

Even if you devote space to a 100% conserve MP set, the amount of MP saved is still variable. It helps but you can't rely on it in a specific situation, only an average over time.

Oops, already covered. Buukki got it.

I really only used conserve MP for two practical reasons. Geo spells are very very expensive, and you don't really need anything else for them because you get skill requirements trivially, so it made sense to do conserve MP.

The other was healing on whm specifically. JSE neck made it pretty trivial to cap enmity down, so I transitioned quite a few spots to conserve MP.

The only other consideration imo would be a blm nuking for the empy set bonus, but I don't think a 5% chance at double damage is really worth it imo.

Edit: For reference if I remember correctly, 100% conserve MP is equal to ~33% less MP used on spells overall.
Edit2: Wiki says 28.125%
Edit3: I would never use Vedic coat for whm healing. There are much better things to use in body slot.

Best case scenario I could see for a set would be recovering from a wipe raising 5+ people, but you still need the full amount of MP for the spell you want to cast, and hopefully you give priority to people who can give you refresh, so the time save is pretty small considering you still have to wait out weakness for everyone anyway.

The argument for GEO spells is fine if you aren't in melee range and recasting so often that you would worry about poor defenses.

Only reason I used on whm is because for the higher end cures it was really easy to spam so fast you ran out of MP, so getting as much CMP really helped, but again, never the Vedic Coat specifically because Empy/AF body are so good for ST Cures/Curagas respectively and Bunzi is so good for when I needed defensive cure set.

WHM was really the only job I felt comfortable using the raetic rod +1 because between empy legs and how easy it was to cap Cure Potency/Enmity down AND get decent conserve MP. Other jobs I used Raetic Rod I always had MP issues because there are more important stats to pursue than CMP.

On WHM I am basically always waiting on the recast of raises, not waiting on MP to cast raises. CMP is at best a secondary/tertiary stat for a raise midcast set.

Coat aside, I don't have much CMP in my cure sets because between DT, -enmity, cure potency, cure potency II, there just isn't much space. I do add it when possible (which is like 2 slots), but it just straight up doesn't fit. Also: if you're actually playing properly (using the appropriate level cures for the amount of HP that's missing), basically every cure is free anyway, so CMP has very little, if any, value anyway.

Actually it seems it's 3 pieces, though 1 of them I would've been wearing even if it had 0 CMP so...kinda 2.

for sure, and even if you cast r1-3 + arise while weakened yourself you'll have plenty of mp by the time you need to raise that 5th person.
