I read the discussions on the previous page where most people claim their bottleneck is matters, not units, and I have zero doubts that's exactly how things are.

Conversely, I'm having the opposite issue but I'm in a strange position I suppose.
For the past months I've barely done any limbus runs at all. Just ???, weekly code and maybe 1 run per week.
Atm I have R30 Earring, R29 Ring, and zero of anything else.
I've got 15 Alabaster Matters, 6 Murky matters.
My points cap is very low (as a result of me barely doing runs the past months), a bit over 300k for Temenos, a bit under 300k for Apollyon (people who did 5 runs every week since the beginning are now in the range of >800k I think?).
I've completed 24 AF+4 and 19 Relic+4.
I'd love to get a few more tbf but they're all extremely secondary pieces, nothing I really want or require.

I do feel matters are a problem (and should be 100% with the black chest, with chance of 2 in the bonus chest) but I do feel Units is an overwhelming amount of points required to get a piece to R30, so much that it kinda kills my will to even try it.
But that's how my mind works, whenever I feel (FEEL, not necessarily how it is, just how I FEEL) a task is too taxing, I don't even want to try to do it.

Would things be different for me if the amount of grind was different?
Say the total amount of required units for R30 upgrade was in the range of 300k? Or if you got double amount of units on each run, same result.
Yeah I think I would at least feel the "drive" to do Limbus more than I have been doing the past few months, definitely.
At which point I would probably complain about my lack of Matters.
Still, it's ironic how things look from the point of view of people like me.
I wonder how many people are in my position? Because if I were to judge from these boards I'd say I'm like the only one lol.

Just getting a code is the way to go. Matter drop rate is too low to grind, not if you value your sanity.

Seems that's the intended design too. Code once a week means you have to remain subbed for several years just to finish one piece.

If you're ever short on units just doing a climb at 135 gets you a few thousand.

Had a similar conversation a few days ago. Personally I don't have an issue with the grind but if the 5th chest opened was 100% Matter drop.. would you do the full climb every week?
Limbo on Asura can get busy after the Tally which can be a good thing but mostly bad if you're aiming to do the fastest climb in the history of Vana'diel to avoid one more minute in Limbo.
Having 100% Matters/week would maybe crowd Limbo for some time and I'm not sure I'd enjoy that lol.
Is the grindy 'Monster bashing' the only reason people don't like it? or is it purely the Matter droprate? It's probably both.
Makes me wonder somtimes when people complain about the grind and seem to forget the pre 99 'Back in the day' grinds. This is Final Fantasy XI... of course it's a grind!
Units are only a problem if you don't regularly do Limbus, especially Lv135 or spend too many Units making Jewels to use in future, then spend afew weeks forcing themselves to farm Units only.

For me it's the effort:reward ratio.
If EP rate and Units rate were like double the amount of what they are I would probably feel much differently about the event as a whole.
I didn't mind it at all for AF and Relics, the grind was okay.
But >600k for a single piece?
Way too much effort.
I know I'm in a minority of course, but still that's how it feels to me.

I remember that all too well, but we're in 2026 now, over 20 years passed, the gaming world has changed a lot and so did MMOs and so did all of us.
Don't need to remember that things have been way way way worse at a certain point of time to defend a system that (in my eyes, not objectively) has a bad balance of reward:effort atm

This is great, but 1) there shouldnt have to be an out of game solution and 2) requires people to actually use the addon.

To point 2, if I'm reading it right, it says 1 nm has been killed on my server, but I have tracked 7 nms killed just by writing down and then crossing off names when I do climbs, so there's still no way to find progress.

Not as bad as the OG 75 grind is not a good argument.

Same can be said of the EP grind. Don't have to grind/bot it, still no excuse for a system that grindy in a supposedly modern MMO.

There are indeed madmen that will look at a Limbus grind and go "Imma grind that" then inevitably quit after burning out several months later.

Every time I try to suck it up and start grinding Limbus, SE kicks me in the balls.

1/5 Temenos
0/3 Apollyon (next is 5k)

Best case is 3/10 this week. My alt is 5/8.

Its pretty much the same as sortie without the bosses. Zone up, run to the end, AoE sleep, kill 8 mobs, rinse and repeat. More time spent running than fighting. 75% of the mob you'll never touch.

This is the Limbus thread, not Sortie.

Limbus is closer to 75% of the mobs go untouched.

Started working on R30ing my Murky Ring and Alabaster Earring a while ago and currently sitting on 14+ matters on each of my characters with earrings at R23 and rings at R25 and thus being limited by units to progress. The problem is I *really* don't want to just find a spot to mindlessly grind up the rest of my 50k weekly unit limit after my 4 climbs (+1 code chest) so I'm only getting whatever units I end up with from climbs and ??? clicking. Would be nice if the unit rewards from chests were increased by 2-3x so you can more closely hit your weekly cap by doing the actual part of the content SE wants you to do (the climbs) rather than find a corner to sit in for however many more hours to finish up. After the Temenos nerf and me dropping Monberaux to have a 5 person party to reduce the number of mobs I have to kill per floor, CL135 Temenos climbs only take me about 25 mins so I actually don't mind the climbing that much anymore, but I still don't want to grind out the 50k unit limit off 100 units per 5 mobs.

I've never done this version so potentially dumb quesion, but what if they made matters sellable? Could theoretically also increase supply of the less popular race shards.

I have zero interest or dog in this fight, but my alt that is at rank 29 on murky ring and alabaster earring, this is their matters. I upgrade the ring/earring once a week (as thats all the units i get) and the rest of the matters pile on. Again, I don't care, just throwing this out there as this exists as i refuse to stay in limbus and farm the extra units AT HALF THE RATE OF A NORMAL CLIMB.

Yeah units versus matters bottlenck is going to also vary bigly depending on whether your focusing on earring+ring versus armor/weapon (since these can draw from either zones' unit pool for augments) at this point, especially starting fresh. My main is ahead on units but behind on matters since focusing on armor. Meanwhile my dualbox is ahead on matters but behind on units since doing the accessories on them.
