New games suck... or is it just me?
By Godfry 2025-04-24 08:19:43
So you post your opinions about games but I can't post mine? That's double standard lol.
Sorry but it doesn't work this way.
See how dishonest you are? My take about current games sucking or not is just an opinion.
Games that are so successful that they are still relevant 30 years later is a fact - which does not require your opinion.
You knew this, but you are a dishonest they-them bot disguised as moderate lol.

So current generation of young player are buying millions of copies of FFT or VP or what?
Your opinion on those games being "relevant" today is just your opinion as an old school player, not fact.
And I think it's dishonest to disguise opinions as fact too.

lol... We are getting remakes of games created 30 years ago because they are irrelevant and companies like to lose money. Got it. These games are so irrelevant that we are currently discussing games in a Fortnite forum, not FFXI.
I guess you are just stupid, not dishonest - maybe both.

Only FF7 got remake so far and it's not even the close to the same game as OG. If 30 year old game with outdated mechanics is so relevant why aren't they making 1:1 remake for FF7?
And this remake didn't even sell well!
Maybe, just maybe, younger gamers today don't care about FF7 as much as you think.
Other games like VP or FFT? Where is the remake? Aren't they supposed to be relevant?
Again, you are free to think they are relevant, but that's just your opinion man, not fact. Spamming personal attack in every post doesn't turn your opinion into fact.

Wow 86 pages of shitposting. This is why I don't backread more than 2 pages.

Concluded, you are both - stupid and dishonest. lol.
What was the entry to PS5? A new game or the remake of a game created ~30 years ago? Did Resident Evil games created 30 years ago get remakes?
Also - now you agree that FF7 Remake didn't do well?

You didn't list RE in your last post, you said FF 7-9, VP, MG, Lunar and FFT etc are the representation of good games even today, which I disagree. I think those titles that you listed are less relevant than RE these days lol.
If you said RE is more relevant than VP, Lunar and FFT today I would at least agree with you.
It's all opinions either way.
now you agree that FF7 Remake didn't do well?
I said FF7 rebirth didn't sell well long time ago. I also said FF16 didn't "flop" in another post.
I think you are confused between both posts.
Proceeds to reply to every single one of my posts.
Did I post personal attack and ad hominem in every post like you did though? If you want to post opinions, post them. Spamming personal attack doesn't make your opinion more relevant nor effective.

Both, stupid and dishonest. The discussion was about how 30 years ago we had more good-great games than we have today.
You already knew this, but your dishonesty forces you to pretend, and your stupidity helps you carry it along.

Doesn't matter which old game, even if you want to include OG RE in your list.
It's still your personal opinion that old games are good, not fact. That's all that matters.

It isn't. I think Oblivion is bad... That's my opinion. Does not mean that the game is bad.
Seems like the remake is doing super well.
Again - dishonest and stupid.

I'm kind of excited for Clair Obscure Expedition 33, but I'm going to wait to see some reviews before I jump onboard. It looks promising, but so have lots of other games that turned out to be trash. Looks interesting from the videos I saw, but they were both cinematic trailers instead of gameplay videos.
I hate cinematic trailers.

Something interesting I noticed is a channel built almost exclusively to cover FF, is now starting to cover other games that offer FF type gameplay. In effect acceptance that SE best years are in the rear view mirror, which is probably a smart idea imo.

O hey look, in this game the boys/men look like normal boys/men, and the girls/women look like normal girls/women instead of being 6'3 with a masculine chiseled jaw and 50 pounds of muscle.

I've been subscribed to their channel for a super long time. Clearly, you haven't been. If you actually paid any attention to them (which you don't) you would notice that the featured video on their homepage is titled "The Future of this Channel" and it makes no mention of your conspiracy theory. The guy lost his job, but is going to keep pumping out FF content. Or maybe even if you watched the video you posted (which you didn't) you would have heard him say it was basically a one off and they will be right back with more FF coverage. But hey, you had to try because you are you.

I do that, and even if I never make it past the tutorial in a game I consider worth supporting, I consider it money well spent. Can't think offhand of any recent titles where I've had actual buyer's remorse.

This is objectively false regardless of your political stance lol. Some intersex people has both male and female genitals when they were born. Which means they are biologically neither male or female.
They may pick one gender role when they grow up, and identify with that in the society. But gender role and sex are 2 different things, and that is not a modern concept either. There are plenty of historical record about intersex people since the ancient time.
I'm pretty sure absolutely nobody is surprised by your opinion. For someone who has been asking Nynja for proof that you don't make comments outside of technical game design you sure turned yourself in in this one.
That's why I don't take you serious. Cause you are dishonest - always arguing in bad face. Having both genitals doesn't make them have both gender. Their DNA would still favor one of the sexes. But you already knew this. You are just a flying poopy joke.
Yeah I was waiting for someone to bring up the rare genetic disorder that are hermaphrodites. Though because they possess the Y chromosome they are still biologically "male", the extra X chromosome tends to screw with many of the hormone processes so it's a real toss up.
In any case that is a bad faith argument as that is an extremely rare genetic disability, technically as a developmental disorder. Currently there are only about 500 known hermaphrodites' worldwide. Kind of the definition of statistical outlier.
Oh and google is ghey. Every time I tried to lookup the details for hermaphroditism it would instead switch it out for "intersex" and give me BS that it was super common and then provide all these LGBBQWTFJESUS sites. Went over to bing and bam the papers were provided that had the information.

If .01% of the population is trans, but 10% of game devs are you're getting more pronoun stuff in games. The game dev industry is not representative of the population of customers at all, they have intentionally hired people from small groups due to DEI and forced hiring policies. They are also more likely to be setup and hire from progressive areas.
This is why western games are the way they are, and why they will keep doing it even if almost none of the customers want it.
In past times, the people in charge were more comfortable saying no to stuff. Now they are less comfortable doing that, cause social media has allowed them to be fired for it.
Personally I don't care about body type stuff or even trans characters in game (as long as they are done well), I prefer to fixate on things that actually matter. Like having attractive female characters, good writing, good world building and tiddies.
The representation problem is more about location and demographics of applicants. Look where these game studios are HQ'd at and where their hiring pool is from. Dig into how many of those applicants are creative vs engineering types, finally add in how HR demands a certain percentage of hires be "not cis-gender white male" and you quickly get an over-representation of rainbow hair, pierced nose they/thems.
As for the push behind all this nonsense, it's about ESG. The "S" in ESG rates companies on how woke they are. The more They/Them's they hire and the more DEI they push, the higher the S score becomes. There are very large and powerful entities using ESG as a way to gate publisher funding. Remember AAA gaming is now the same as Hollywood, publishers go out and get funding for each of those projects. The entities they get that funding from will attach strings to the funding demanding a certain amout CRT/DEI/etc.. shoved into the product.
Look no further then Steller Blade if you want to see an example. The Korean development studio really doesn't care about that nonsense and built the entire game without it. They had an exclusive agreement with Sony to publish the game, meaning Sony is partially funding the project, and as part of that agreement Sony exercised creative control and demanded those changes.

Shift up also went public though
Lets see what the next title looks like after the usual suspects sink their teeth into the process.
Ill still be hopeful for their next, but the $23 DLC for what was nothing more than nier cosmetics isnt a good start.

Speaking of Lunar, I saw they released a remastered version of it, but the reviews so far are not good.
I have Lunar Remastered and it's pretty good. It's basically the PSX version ported to Steam with minimal changes, think just the translation was fixed (the previous company took liberties and reinterpreted stuff). People are complaining that they didn't change it "enough" lol, largely since the PSP version also existed with updated graphics.
Remember how SE rereleased the Pixel Remasters and used the original NES/SNES games as source instead of the updated GBA versions? It's basically that all over again.

Idk, Abby in Last of Us Season 2 is not very.. realistic.
According to the games, she should be a foot taller and about 50lbs more muscle. And smaller boobs, hips and butt.
What do you mean the Abby in the game is not a realistic portrayal of a woman, period. Why couldn't they find an actress that more closely resembles the in-game Abby, if she's not unrealistic.

I mean ... an actress does exist that fits those dimensions. She's kind of awesome at playing giant female warriors.

I just bought it, I like supporting indie developers, especially if they refuse to bow down to the alphabet mafia.

They had an exclusive agreement with Sony to publish the game, meaning Sony is partially funding the project, and as part of that agreement Sony exercised creative control and demanded those changes. The point isn't that it's a small subset, the point is trying to be as inclusive as possible. We have more handicap parking spaces than handicap people, but giving up 1 or 2 spaces to make it easier for them to get access to stores is a minor inconvenience for able bodied people and a HUGE benefit for handicapped. The same thing applies to switching male/female to A/B. It is a practically non-existant hindrance to heterosexual people and a major inclusive step for others.
The thing I will never understand is why doing something as simple as this is so upsetting to some people. I wish that most people could look at a gesture like this and go "well it doesn't EXPLICITLY help me but it does help a group of people that isn't my group so it's worth doing" but obviously there is a vocal minority refuse to give even an inch of their privilege out of some misbegotten fear or losing all of it. These people are stupid and not worth engaging with, as this thread has aptly demonstrated.
So... I have been increasingly frustrated with new games over years. I feel like so much effort it placed on graphics, lighting, art style, ect and maybe 10% of that effort is placed into gameplay, controls, and story.
My latest purchase was Visions of Mana, which I was pretty excited for. Secret of Mana is in my top 5 all time, I've played Seiken Densetsu 3 translated and while I didn't think it was as good as Secret of Mana, it was still extremely enjoyable. I skipped Trials of Mana since I had already played Seiken Densetsu 3. Vision is just bad. The english voice acting was awful, the characters were bland/generic or just stupid, and I was 3hrs into the game and all I was doing to running 30seconds between CS. Felt like a slightly interactive shitty anime.
Hogwarts Legacy, Visions of Mana, Baldur's Gate 3, Starfield... I felt like all of these super hyped games were absolute duds. Final Fantasy 16 is coming to PC in a few weeks and I'm not sure if I even want to try it anymore. I've heard people say not great things about it.
I know I'm just venting a bit here, but it really sucks being excited for a new game and then the crushing disappointment when it's not fun.
