This happened when I exited while the person who won them was lotting (they did in fact get them, so not so sad after all). Was afraid I had messed things up somehow but evidently just a glitch.
The original picture went viral, then people got their feelings hurt and another artist added the extra blocks.
The point of the original was to make a point about how people buy pets for christmas or birthdays, when they are cute and young and abandon them when the get older. It was to try educate people to stop buying pets as presents. Because people got sad they kind of ruined the original intention of the artist though.
Because, by the end of day, pets dont have the social constraints that amplifies the material loss.
Maybe they will have a hard time re adapting to the wild, but will be less affected with the shame, sadness, despair people underwent in those situations.
The original did good in the world, it was the way it was for a reason. But because we live in the feefee times they changed it, and ruined it and ruined the good it could have done in the world.
It's such a perfect analogy for current times, all the things we do to make people feel better about being stupid or fat, but that will have catastrophic consequences for society and the future.
The road to hell really is paved with good intentions.
There's other comics though that the whole thing gets split up like that. Biggest example I can think of, is one with a dog saying it hasn't eaten in ages, spiderwebs around it yadda yadda and most sites cut it off there for the sads, but really there's extra panels where it's just a dog being a dog and the people come home.
But with that one, the entire thing was complete, they didn't add to it later on. People just purposely cut it off at the sad part.
