A Collection of Sets
By Galkapryme 2024-06-26 17:44:37
(UPDATE: Cleaned up in-work version can be found here https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Community_Dragoon_Guide)
Herein lies my humble collection of engaged sets. Weaponskill sets are in-work; but I am lacking in many of the weapons (I primarily use Gae Buide and Naegling). I will also update with idle sets at a later time. Coiste, Gleti's and Nyame gear assumes R25 or 30. Unity +1 gear assumes R15.
A Personal Note:
I build multiple niche sets for various reasons, but mostly based on what I feel like that day. I don't always aim for what people regard as BiS, mainly because I struggle to build DRG sets that strike the perfect balance between STP, X-hit, DT, PDL, and Haste, especially when you consider the Wyvern, too.
I also built sets for with and without the Wyvern, since some end game content can kill a Wyvern before the recast timer is up to recall it.
The sets do not include the weapon since we all play with different weapons in different scenarios. Assume you can ignore the grip if using Naegling.
I welcome constructive criticism. In fact...I welcome the haters and flamers too; I know some of you just can't help yourselves. I'm really just trying to be somewhat helpful in providing an updated set list for DRG.
WITHOUT WYVERN:
ItemSet 396046
Base Set: Set that seeks to strike a moderate balance between X-Hit, STP, DT, and Haste. Imperfect, and not regularly used. Cape here is DA. |
ItemSet 396047
X-Hit Set: Focuses on multi-hit (quad attack, triple attack, & double attack). This works because there's some good STP mixed in. Cape here is DA.
Capped Gear Haste.
QA: 3
TA: 13
DA: 44 (51 and 54 with Stage 4 and 5 Gae Buide, Respectively) |
ItemSet 396048
STP Set: Focuses primarily on STP. ML 50 DRG subbing SAM gets 20 STP as a trait. Cape here is STP.
STP: 101 (81 from gear) |
ItemSet 396049
Acc Set: Focuses on max accuracy. Cape here is Acc +30, DEX +20. |
ItemSet 396050
PDT (DT) Set: This is actually a capped DT set (all 3 forms). Cape can be DT or PDT...doesn't really matter. But since most players can at least get within 5 of DT cap, I usually go for the DT 5 on capes. |
ItemSet 396051
MEVA Set: Focuses on Magic Evasion. Same set can be used effectively with Wyvern since Nyame has pet stats. May want to swap a couple accessories, or keep the Wyvern Lv. + gear. Cape here is EVA/M.EVA. |
WITH WYVERN:
Jump Set
ItemSet 396058
Swap in Peltast's Cuissots +3 for Spirit and Soul Jump.
Weaponskill Sets (no buff, Aftermath, or hybrid modifiers - adjust as needed for AM, PDT, Acc, capped Attack, etc.)
ItemSet 393996
Diarmuid/Camlann's Torment: STR/VIT based WS. Elements: Transfixion/Scission/Grav (Diarmuid), Light/Frag (Camlann's) |

I'll clean this up or make upload into BGWiki community guide since I can't seem to get the tables right here.

Might I kindly ask that you exclude any non-BiS sets from community guides or at least put a giant bold disclaimer next to each on-BiS set. I assume there are many like me that are often lazy for most jobs and just look up what's in the guides.

Will-do. This is going to be a long labor of love.

I would recommend building the guide on your own rather than putting other people's sets in there. This way if you ever get weewy mad at a group of people you can delete the guide with impunity. LPT

I honestly don't care what he does with them they are only sets. Ill still have them saved in my itemsets for people to look through if they need it.

Withholding judgment on some of the weaponskill sets until I can do more extensive testing. I know what's been posted over time, but going with R25 Path B Nyame and some different accessories has served me better than some of the X-hit weaponskill sets. It's a relatively negligible amount, but still...
Stardiver, for example, I'm hitting for about 1-1.5K more same scenario, same mob, same buffs (including Diarmuid aftermath), same 3K TP.

Sample size?
Using DPS simulator (1500-2100 TP, Stardiver) for your sets.
Creau set:
ItemSet 396076
WSavg: 62,932
Total DPS: 11,203
Your set:
ItemSet 393996
WSavg: 53,791
Total DPS: 9,737
I should clarify: I used Trishula for both sets, so as to just compare the WS sets not the weapons. I tried plugging in Gae Buide for another comparison but the WSavg plummeted so...don't use Gae Buide for Stardiver, even with AM3 up it's significantly worse.
By Galkapryme 2024-06-28 13:39:09
Before I post what I believe to be an optimal set for Stardiver (sans Trish, because I only have Gae Buide), what do people with Trish usually hit for (average range)?

That's wildly dependent on the mob, buffs, etc. Stardiver is always the most inconsistent ws(across mob types) for me
Lay down some parameters and I'll tell ya when I'm home
Saaaaaaaay Locus Crabs, Rabbits, or Dhamels. Capped haste, attack and frailty bubbles, 1 debuff (maybe Dia).

So for clarity, this was done in a SIM as opposed to actually out in the field. And the Gleti's...augmented?

Yes, all numbers provided were from the public simulator. I don't use a parser and am absolutely not going to manually average thousands of weaponskills to get averages on my own. The WS calculations in the game are extraordinarily well-understood so unless you have found some error in the way the simulator calculates them, it would be best if you trusted their numbers rather than the results of doing 5 weaponskills "in the field".
I used R30 augs for Gleti and R25 for Nyame for these tests, since that seemed pretty obtainable. I (or you) could re-run it with a lower Gleti aug but frankly the reason Gleti is winning here is mostly because of the PDL and not because of the 25 ATK on the augments, though I'm sure the TA/DA from body/legs are a bit of a factor.
It also could have something to do with the fact that you're only ever running tests at 3k TP, whereas the sim is (capable of) using a variety of TP ranges. Some sets may perform better at lower TP values and others may perform better at higher TP values, depending on the WSC of the WS and other factors.

please don't limit sets to only the gear you currently have access to, kinda defeats the purpose of a guide. not going to critique sets since I've already posted about your methods previously, except for one thing: please for the love of god use tp bonus moonshade with WS that scale with TP!.

I'm not...that's why I ask the questions and provide qualifiers. Some of the gear in the guide that's currently under construction...I do not have (Like R28+ Gleti's legs).

Confirmed in the field. Thank you for the dataset. I dislike the inconsistency of certain weaponskills, but when doing 5-10, if I notice a consistent gap between one set and another under the same conditions, that's a strong enough indicator for me.
By Galkapryme 2024-07-04 19:33:06
In my most recent case, I tested 10 Stardivers in 1 gearset under a set of conditions. Then, I tested 10 Stardivers in another set under the same conditions. The second gearset yielded noticeably higher numbers on almost every WS. 1 or 2 were only like a couple thousand higher. Most were between 10-20K higher.

Interesting. After testing in the field, I attempted to use the sim (now that I'm home and have big enopugh monitors to see the whole thing). The numbers I got were different, but they skewed in the opposite direction, unless I'm reading and understanding it wrong.

I left the weapon slot blank (in the guide, not the SIM), as I have Stage IV gae, but not Trish. I'm confident that Trish is better overall for Stardiver, but I can't test that yet. NOTE: When I build WS sets for the guide, I'm leaving out the weapon.
CURIOSITY: Does the difference in weapon necessitate that other gear might be impacted? That is, if I use Trish instead of Gae, would I need to change some other gear to get high damage output. Stage IV Gae adds 10 PDL.

yes
as far as the difference between your two set using that program, while there is a possibility of an error in the code, it's more likely you aren't using the same settings. those sets are used under a specific setup so you need to change the setup to match your conditions. nobody cares about your tests on mobs which even the same mob could have different stat values based on their level, let alone trusts not maintaining the same buffs or debuffs for each one. your tests aren't controlled which is why nobody cares what result you get.
