You, who thinks "gameplay gameplay and marketing timing in live service game is more important than character design"
Please get my point right.
(Edit: for story telling games like visual novel or adventure games, which focuses on story more than gameplay, of course character design is more important than game mechanics, since character design is part of storytelling. Live service game isn't the same though.
The discussion in question was about live service games, not narrative focused games.)
Harvard wont save you this time, mwahahaha
Don't need Harvard. Anyone knows that WoW with ugly characters massively outperforms Blade and Soul mentioned in the video.
If Kim can magically make a MMO successful with character designs alone, he wouldn't need to switch battlefield to single player games.
Promote someone who disses Rinoa's (and Squall's) design and it'll be me you're fighting and not Afania
Whoever attacks Nomura as a character designer don't deserve the view. Go attack his producer ability, story telling ability, his emo cutscenes, whatever, idc.
His character design ability was god tier status in the industry though. At least in 2000 that was the case.
It's also silly to attack an old Character design for "2000 fashion". Part of the charm in old movies like OG Star war or Blade runner was those outdated fashion sense in the 80s. On the other hand designs that "stood the test of time" feels far more generic and forgettable in today's entertainment industry because everyone uses it.
That's what makes Nomura character design great even today imo.
