2. Increased the damage of Daggers, to a point where some of them have equal DMG to Swords, but still at the delay of a Dagger.
3. Increased the power of Dagger Weapon Skills by a huge margin.
4. Lowered the level of both Triple Attack and Assassin.
5. Removed the dependency on Thief's Knife for TH, allowing for another damage-oriented weapon (in fact, TK is given Occasionally Attacks Twice, so now it's just better anyway)
6. Lowered item drop rates across the board, making Thief the only reliable means to acquiring basically any item at all
1. Why does THF getting ~25 seconds of capped accuracy once every two hours really matter? This seems like a weird nitpick.
2. Not sure where you're getting this from. A quick analysis of daggers vs swords every 10 levels puts swords at 50-100% higher damage at pretty much every range,
3. Aside from Wasp Sting and Gust Slash being improved so that dagger isn't utterly useless prior to 33, dagger WS seem to be close to 75-era. Many other WSs for other jobs were made more useful too.
4. So minor job adjustments?
5. Shifting dependency to a different item for TH doesn't actually affect anything considering you would only wear Thief's Knife for a single hit back in the day anyway.
6. An admin in here is saying drop rates are in-era. IDK if that's true or not though.

By lower drop rates do you mean the TH chart provided by SE? That’s what we use. The only “lower drop rates” were when we created a ton of new level 1 mobs for the first few weeks of the server to help leveling congestion. Otherwise, it’s era TH. You might want to take another look, then. A friend of mine recently (about ~3 weeks ago) rage-quit Horizon because she couldn't get an Orcish Axe for Sandy 1-1. She joined to play with another friend who wanted to try Hardcore Mode, and together they farmed Fodder for almost 4 hours without seeing a single one.

FFXI is a game of minor increase, add them all together and boom it become a big increase. Right now we are already stronger than 2010 retail FFXI.
They went to far into custom world too soon, they tried to revert some of them back like BST, but would need much more than that to make it closer to ERA.
And you can't revert change like suppa, should just have kept Suppa the same way and add the custom earring on custom content.

But then that would defeat the purpose of making THF stronger and desired in group content. How else are the Dev / Admins going to play Thief in end game?

It's the fact that Thief of all jobs didn't need buffs because its advantages and conveniences made up for its shortcomings. They could have swapped Gust Slash with Shadowstitch and called it a day. But no, they made Wasp Sting deal as much damage as Tachi: Enpi for some reason.

That was another thing that was dumb, THF already had access to Fast Blade from swords, which they used until Viper Bite at 30~33. SA Fast Blade was hella strong already. Using different weapons at different times was part of the leveling experience.

I mean that is the literal reason why daggers are buffed. So thf won't use fast blade.
That's the entire premise. THF wanting to use daggers. Very dissimilar from era. Not an all bad or all good choice, but a difference all the same.

Classic FFXI had many occurrences of big changes at once. Does the 2h update ring a bell to you?
Not that it even matters, because it's only natural that launching a new server is going to have more big changes early on. That's the gift of hindsight.
And you can't revert change like suppa
Why? There's no mystical connection between DM and Suppa. The change they made on Horizon made it so Suppa isn't the default reward for DM any more, that's all.

You don't think it's kind of a downer that the signature weapon for THF was useless for the first 32 levels of the game?
Also, SA Combo or GTFO

So now you agree all those change are huge and not Minor ? Wich make it a complete different game than Era.

Because it was as staple thing on Era (I picked Bushi on era btw), we seems to agree then Horizon is just a game using the same Asset if FFXI but totally different.

I consider most of them to be minor or inconsequential. Even if you combine them to try to pass it off as a major change though, making a major change to a job doesn't suddenly mean that the 90% of the core game that is still like the 75-era is now completely different. I don't view making some improvements to THF to be an era-shattering concept.

It was a "staple thing" because SE designed the DM rewards very poorly. You're making huge leaps in logic to assert that the game is totally different.

Classic FFXI had many occurrences of big changes at once. Does the 2h update ring a bell to you? Yeah... and that was a big problem. The FFXI developers made huge mistakes, and the whole point of Horizon was to correct those mistakes. But they're putting all of their focus in weird areas, trying to fix things that weren't broken (and breaking them in the process) while ignoring things that were a problem in the first place.
You don't think it's kind of a downer that the signature weapon for THF was useless for the first 32 levels of the game? Like I said, they could have fixed Thief's only problem area by swapping the levels of Gust Slash and Shadowstitch around. Shadowstitch is adequate, especially when paired with Sneak Attack, and is learned just before SA is acquired. That would have been plenty for Thief until it reached level 33.

This sounded extreme to me so I thought I'd test it out myself. Either this story is off or your friend has absolutely horrendous luck.

Scythe and greatsword say hello, lot of weapons had just middling/trash ws options until a certain point, usually 55~60, and you either rolled with it cause skilling up is pain, or you used a better weapon like axe/sword/great axe

Sure, but SE implementing many weapons poorly doesn't somehow make buffing daggers a bad thing. I do believe GSword WS got buffed on Horizon as well.
By Nariont 2023-11-09 13:02:14
Bumping the dagger dmg as well as the ws dmg, and then outside that you as lowered when ta and assassin come in just seems excessive to me, any one of these woulda been fine, but when you put it all together it seems a bit much. Plus i didnt mind using a unconventional wrapon, that was part of the appeal of having weapon options.

Guess I just don't see how that's the case. It's not as though THF gets invited to parties any more than other DDs. It's still not as strong as other DDs. Weapon options for THF were largely an illusion in the classic era anyway. Using Sword/HtH to 33 then dagger for the rest wasn't exactly a diverse lineup.

I think I just figured out what bothers me about Horizon, and yes I admit it's a "me" thing. Here's my train of thought:
Its popularity can't stem from it being "as close to early-era XI as it gets", because that's objectively untrue.
It can't be that it's the better-designed server because the choices they've made have mostly been questionable. Current retail even has more stuff to do, and its balance is way stronger.
It can't even be just that its population is high, because the top retail servers exceed it. (Granted, I guess it's the most populated free way to play out there)
Maybe it's the promise of things to come, but again, their team hasn't given anyone any reason to believe those promises yet.
So the only thing that my mind can fathom is that its popularity stems from the marketing. Instead of making a stable server with good balance and a strong economy, they put most of their effort (and money, if Ninja's financing is to be believed) into pushing it. And I mean, that makes sense, because that kind of thing happens all the time. Well-made games getting buried under triple-A publications because of fancy trailers and hype. Its players have convinced themselves that it's the best because it's popular, and go around spreading the word like a cult much to the annoyance of people like myself. Its producer showered with praise for ripping off other peoples' work while doing somehow worse than the bare minimum. Horizon, its team, and its community reminds me of those of another game that I find insufferable.
This is why the server gets under my skin.

what about the admin accused of harassing female players? unclear how that one turned out based on bg alone, but he's posted in this thread so evidently still involved.
can change as many item stats and job abilities as you want, but if those kinds of allegations are true it should be a huge red flag for potential players.
Let's say it is true(I'm out of the loop on this thing because I don't follow most internet gossip, so I don't know the deets). Why should this deter your average Horizon player from playing?
