Elemental Torque on mobs you're most likely to resist.
Uggalepih Pendant on mobs you're most likely to not resist while your MP is under 51%
On mobs you won't resist on, but with MP over 51% after you cast, I'd recommend Philomath Stole (or Prudence Torque if you have it).

One raises elemental magic, the other raises damage. This means they're both going to be used on different monsters and in different situations. If you're having a bit of trouble with resists, whack on an elemeental torque to cut them out. If you're not getting any resists whatsoever, though, use uggalepih pendant (or englightened chain if you can't afford it) for more damage.
Full timing either of them would be an inefficient use of your neck slot.
So essentially what Hitetsu said. <.<

My BLM's still fairly new, so I don't have the nicer options that are available to older and more experienced BLMs. At this point, I only use either Elemental Torque or Uggy Pendant for nuking. Spellcast swaps in the Uggy when the latent is active, but I have a resist toggle on my macro bars which will swap the Torque back in should I need it (among other resist gear).

Compare Philomath Stole with an Enlightened Chain. They both have +3 INT, so they'll both have the same effect.
Uggalepih Pendant blows these into the ground though, so keep using that and the torque, Eeek.

Every BLM should have both of those; they're not either/or items.

Do you have Elemental Magic Skill 8/8 merits? If not then, sell the Uggy pendant. Over time you'll nuke more consistently with the elemental torque.

This thread hurts my brain, I didn't think I would need to post, but apparently I do.
Elemental torque for resistive targets... What is resistive depends on the rest of your gear and merits, but this normally included the 5 Gods in Sky, Limbus bosses, Jailers, HNMs etc.
Prudence Torque is first choice for MP>51% on any non-resistive targets (other choice, in descending order are Caract Choker and Enlightend chain/Philomath Stole)
Ugg Pendent is the only choice for MP<51% on any non-resistive targets

Damn... I carry 7 neck peices at all times when playing BLM... and use each one of them constantly lol
~ Prudence Torque (standard nuking, low/mid resist mobs)
~ Ugg Pendant (only when latent is active)
~ Elemental Torque (Elemental DoT's and high resist HNM)
~ Enfeebling Torque (self explanatory)
~ Dark Torque (self explanatory)
~ Morgana's Choker (MND set for stoneskin, enhancing magic)
~ Grandiose Chain (resting)
Looking through my BLM gear, I see that I tend to carry 4-7 pieces for just about every slot (except ranged, which only gets one full time piece... phantom tathlum). Personally I feel BLM is such an overpowered job when geared and macro'd properly, I dont even know how some people can play it any other way lol

Personally I use Beak +1 for resting and Promise badge for stoneskin (but other than that we use the same)

holy ....
im blm 75 since about 3 month now
i need 72/80 of my inventory just for blm -> and im still not done
with all my gear sets.
but tbh : i dont mind
what i really mind are resists! u better keep this in mind Barrd or retire ur blm -.-
i have like 5 gear sets with me on blm: mp recover while healing
enfeebling,dark,nuke and elemental/mag acc
i dont have novio or sorcerers ring yet,but able to do a good job
with my blm.
if u want to do a good job in any situation - u need to be prepaired with multiple gear sets, everything else is just a waste of time
skill(player skill) + gear + job skill + merits = success or failure
fyi: my main is sam

I never understood the whole "main job" thing i guess, it makes no sense for me to say i'm any one main job because all of my jobs are geared to the teeth and merited and i play them well, and i have 9 jobs so... what exactly constitutes something being "main" job?
Would this just mean i have 9 "main" jobs? Or does "main" mean it's like the job you prefer to play for any situation or, what exactly does this mean?

Main is whichever job(s) you enjoy playing most and prioritize over your other jobs, whether it be in playtime, gear, or merits.

Before my MP is below 50%... I always use Elemental Torque. Uggly pendant for everything else after 50%MP (Except when I'm fighting Tiamat)

Sounds BLM. I would go with Uggalepih Pendant since at that given range you're gonna be burning in Mount Zhayolm as choice, though the Air Elemental+ in a fire region is somewhat risky but elemental days & moon phases always give a lottery feeling. The Elemental Torque is good for doing odd jobs like AF battle help or KSNM times.

This is what all BLMs should have, I have everything the same but the Morgana's choker. 1.5k points until I can buy, but I use promise badge, its the MND but does not give me the MP. If I did have morgana's choker I could sell some other ***to make room, because getting my latent for S ring, takes a lot of items... "To lazy to uncurse my other A abj's." I have Zenith Mitts +1 and thats all I need. Damn I went off topic...

Quote: This is what all BLMs should have,
Not really.
Morgana Chocker is useless for decent BLM, can reach 114+MND easily without it. Not useful for tarus too, not needed to force yellow. For non-taru it's a cool item yeah.
Grandiose Chain is a subpar resting item. Hi2u Phi Necklace (or Gnole Torque).
And you wouldn't use Elemental Torque for DoTs seriously, unless you reach 150+ without using prudence in neck slot, which I doubt, and in that case it would be better to use Prudence in neck and use AF+1 hands instead. (http://www.ffxiah.com/item_sets.php?id=106057).
