Qutrub Ambuscade V1

In several runs we encountered a big problem and that is that in the last 30% the Boss is constantly reseting the hate.
Even with Ninja with Yonin, Gekka: ichi, provoke and a 99k ws the boss kept ignoring me and went to the paladin to wipe.
How do you control hate in the last 30% phase?

The very thing you described was a major problem for us for a while. The trick is PLD not curing themselves or using any job abilities. That's it. That's the answer. Herd the adds up as carefully as possible, making sure not to inadvertently tag Bigwig with any BLU spells. When you get them to your corner, only use Geist Wall/Soporific/Sheep Song. PLD JA's will gather too much hate due to zone-wide enmity ambuscade mechanic.
No cure/job abilities = Bigwig never wanders away.
By kinkanat 2022-06-23 07:04:04
And how do you catch the hate of all the adds when poping if you don't use JA?
I can understand that you don't cure yourself as a pld, that can be done by RDM or SMN, but how do you gather all the adds without JA?

The adds when they first pop are relatively non-threatening. They can't do any bogus one shot TP moves until after Bigwig is 30%. You can take your time getting them one by one with Flash and Blank Gaze.
Even better, drop the SMN and get a second PLD. One PLD with Aegis pulls the two BLM mobs and the other with Ochain/Priwen/Srivatsa pulls two DRK mobs. The last DRK mob can be pulled & fought by RDM.
When the adds are split up in this manner, they do not have access to Triple Reverse.

Tag them individually with Flash/Blank Gaze/Shield Bash, if you're quick about it you could hit them with an AoE when they spawn in the middle

Adds after the first seem to inherit hate on spawn. Second one usually runs directly to me after voking the first. The only thing that usually steers them away is someone recasting utsu or throwing out warcry.

What is the difference between "Turn the Tables" and "Spin the Tables"?
I think Spin is VD only but I'm not sure how it is different from Turn.
Thank you

Finally got around to trying VD with six people on discord. If you go to previous pages in this thread, you'll see my posts on our set up on difficult under my old Shiva server ffxiah profile. We made some minor adjustments on VD, which added about 4 mins to the overall fight.
Battle time was 10 mins we used two different set ups for our RDM - RDM/BLM (Stun Method) & RDM/NIN (Non-Stun Method).
This was the only job we had change and our RDM stayed /NIN for two of the three fights went were 3/3 on VD. Stun is valuable as noted by others, but not having it didn't cause us to get anywhere close to wiping and the added DPS helped. Our MNKs found Slow II and Elegy enough for them to keep up/recast in time. Unfortunately, due to our available personnel we were unable to have someone on NIN so we ran the following:
MNK/NIN (Empy)- Spammed VS
MNK/NIN (Aeonic)- Spammed SS so when the RDM/NIN SB'd they would make light. Regardless 99999 WS. Could have spammed VS as well and made light with other MNK, either option works.
BRD/WHM (REMA) - Curaga III'd to recover from Spin the Tables & Songs were Mambox2, Honors March, & Minuet. Kept Elegy and other debuffs on. Stayed backline and did not melee.
RDM/NIN (Melee Set etc.) - Debuffs/Buffs (Refresh III BRD, Haste II the squad, toss a heal during Spin the Tables **One fight we had him backline to not feed additional TP to the boss etc. as Spin the Tables heals the boss. Also the RDM silenced the Astrologers and served as additional DPS on the boss.
PUP/NINx2 (PLD PUP) - Each PUP held two of the adds away from the main group fighting the boss.
So to keep this short, the additional Tormentor add on VD we had one of our MNKs solo it @ 80% & 30%. Our RDM/NIN & other MNK held the boss as that MNK killed the adds at those two percentages, we deemed the MNK with the least amount of hate/threat at the time to kill it so boss did not follow him. BRD Curaga III spammed on Spin the Tables. The Two PUP's held two Astrologers & Two Tormentors.
Personal Notes/Opinions:
Difficult spam with the strategy I posted for 6 mins runs might be the best option, especially in a PUG scenario.
I did not attempt the PLD Kite & SMN Mew Method, so I cannot speak on the pros and cons of that strat versus this one.
I would have liked to try this with two well equipped NIN's making light with Shun (Aeonics), and or Metsu (Relics). Honestly, any SC combination to add additional damage would work, I was just throwing out those two weapons/WS's as examples. Having access to additional shadows would be welcomed.

With a little practice, you can do VD in 8 minutes with nearly the same setup. You can use a NIN instead of a MNK as well and damage is comparable.
RDM/BLM for a little more reliable silence on Bigwig so he doesn't spam Utsusemi San sub 30%.

3 NIN 2 Tanks and a RDM.
NINs can do skill chains and do capped damaged on Bigwig even without buffs for difficult spam.
Might even be capable of VD while having the NINs hold the last tormenter.

BRD+NIN can handle the main boss, alternating hate. Just apply Elegy.
PLD+SMN can control adds, or two PLD works
RDM to heal, Haste 2, and slow 2 main boss
Can easily carry 1 extra person, can be anything. Personally, I liked using Ukon Warrior to speed up the fight. Was sub 8 min kills

RDM/BLM for a little more reliable silence on Bigwig so he doesn't spam Utsusemi San sub 30%. BRD could just diaga too. Cast time roughly matches up that you just cast when you see it.

It's a little bit too late but here is my version of the Ambu strat:
Screenshots of the guide texts
This setup is also flexibile in some way, you can carry Regen from outside, so RDM (or SCH), PLD, SMN can be swap to PUP*2 and another DD, or a BLU with any two other jobs for just stunning the adds.

Qutrubs take double damage, and everyone's WS is probably going to deal 99k damage. The only other way to increase your damage (and clear speed) this month is through white damage, so empy procs are extremely useful. Damage skyrockets (like 60k attack round swings for 2 handers). The only caveat is the main Qutrub gains an EnDeath effect under a certain health percentage, so unless you're subbing NIN (or NIN main, which I personally found weaker this month but safer), you are running the risk of hitting the floor.

Is "Reinforce" a new TP move from the Qutrub NM?
I don't remember that move the other times this was around.
AoE 99k to everybody in range, used at 16% HP left for us.
Edit:
Happened two times in two different fights, both times exactly at 16% HP

Key Notes:
Bozzetto Bigwig:
Posses Draw-In
Uses the following TP moves:
100~80%: Animating Wail, Mangle, Leaping Cleave
80~60%: The Bigwig's weapon will break, summons adds, and uses Hex Palm as well as Spinal Cleave.
60~30%: The Bigwig equips it's secondary weapon. Gains en-death while adds are out wand will use Unblest Jambiya as well as Gen'ei Ryodan
Unblest Jambiya - 15' AoE drain (removes shadows).
Gen'ei Ryodan - Conal damage, stun, and a single dispel (removes 5 shadows)
50%: Uses Perfect Dodge
30~0%: Weapon breaks again, resummons any defeated adds, and casts Utsusemi: San frequently. Loses the en-death effect while adds are out and will use Phantom Whorl as well as Enforce (on VD only). The Bigwig may be silenced to stop the Utsusemi spam, but this will require an immunobreak to land. When the Bigwig is at 30% or lower the adds will gain access to a move named Triple Reversal (see Adds section below).
Adds:
Adds are immune to sleep.
Adds will use their respective 1-hour special abilities and standard Qutrub TP moves.
The Astrologers will cast typical BLM spells including, T4 nukes, Sleep II, Poisonga, and Ice Spikes.
The Astrologers are susceptible to silence.
BigWig 30%~0%:
The rate of activation on the Bigwig's endeath effect increases the more players continue to damage the Bigwig.
Strategies:
Caitsith.Mahayaya said: »Food is required! Killing faster as non-NIN is more important since less time spent in the battle which is less room for error. Being stunned with no shadows up isn't a big deal in this fight and buffers should reapply buffs immediately (as you unstun) if you lose them or they're trash. We usually only want WAR and DRK this month since NIN DD is crap compared to those jobs.
Yeah, 2h empyrean is beastly this month, lol. I have no doubt that empyrean nin would be the most optimal choice because of dmg and more shadows.
But vast majority of NIN that I've seen, do mediocre dps and die/got dispelled anyways. I don't know one single nin hardcore enough to do empyreans.
Not sure if something changed from last time but any DPS should be able to hit 99k WS this month. My BRD is hitting 99k Mordant Rime every time with just BRD buffs (no COR, no GEO, just honor/madrigal/minuetx2 and Dia3 from RDM). Pretty sure our NIN was hitting cap damage on every WS as well. Setup is NIN PLD RDM BRD...and 2 spots for uh. Stuff.
1) Mewing Strategy: This is the most reliable strategy, with reasonable clear speed. *See Kishr's video posted above.
PLD or RUN, DD/NIN or NIN/WAR, RDM/NIN, COR/NIN, BRD/NIN, SMN.
DD pulls NM to the corner and tank kites adds around the pillar when they spawn. BRD keeps elegy on Bigwig.
DD keep shadows up to prevent endeath kill, rdm keeps dia3, slow II on megaboss, silence on astrologers when they pop, then dps when they are not casting. SMN cure the tank.
At 30% tank stop kiting and hold all mobs away from megaboss in one place so mewing lullaby can land on all the adds, smn spams mewing lullaby on cooldown to prevent Triple Reversal fires off. Rdm will need to recast silence on Astrologers as soon as silence wears off.
At 30% when NM spams enforce, just let the DD sit at single digit HP. Nin should toss some vokes before wsing to help the lesser shadow DDs eaten by a potential multi attack.
2) Kiting Strategy: This strategy is identical to mewing strategy except the tank kites all the adds from start to finish, no mewing lullaby used. Healer will need to silence the adds.
3) Killing Adds Strategy: This strategy is the slowest strategy but most reliable of all. Instead of kiting adds, DDs will kill all adds that spawned. There are 2 waves of adds total. Once adds are dead, NM will no longer us endeath nor triple reversal, therefore removed all the potential possibility to wipe.
4) PUP/Mewing Strategy on Difficult: PUPx2 COR SMN PLD and any mage capable of Silence. PLD tanks adds in corners with SMN mewing while dual PUP engage matons on boss in the center, as pets are immune to the Qutrub's Endeath, unlike Wrathare's.
Maton setup is Beast/Companion's; VE head/SS body; Wind/2x Fire; dual Inhibitors but no Speedloaders (skillchains always cap dmg and Speedloaders just slow them down) and just let the matons continuously 3-step skillchain on boss. At around 50%, the boss will PD, after which you can switch to Light/Thunder/Fire and use OD to zerg down the remainder of the boss's HP. The 3m20s duration of OD is enough to take out about 50% of the boss on D with 10-15s of duration to spare. A PUP/RDM should also Diaga to wipe Utsusemi: San shadows.
It may be kinda slow compared to using real DD setups, but it's pretty safe and easy as you don't need to worry about Triple Reversal, shadows, endeath, dispels or the like. And OD is pretty easy to reset with Wild Card as even a 5 will work.
