Since I found the old posts a bit confusing and since I had vague memories of doing this the AoE WSs way and the BLM death MB way, I did several successful runs yesterday and want to add very detailed way to successfully perform this on VD.
Some of the steps I'll mention might not be necessary, if you see any please let me know so I can fix the post.
Overall flow of the fight
1) Pull them behind initial corner
2) Slaughter Dahak
3) Kill megaboss (Bruiser)
4) Kill the adds
Now a bit more details on the key steps
Killing the DahakDahak has access to typical TP moves but what we want to avoid are Nullsong and Voidsong.
If you're fast enough with strong DDs you can kill it before he uses any of them or just be lucky, but it's still a potential risk.
If you want to avoid this risk there are two routes basically:
1) Silence it (he'll still use regular TP moves, but no *song)
2) Deal constant water damage to it. Can be done with Enwater or with another job being /RDM or /SCH constantly casting water1 on it as the DDs kill it.
Killing the bossFirst things first a small but important aspect.
The moment the boss takes even just 1hp damage, a 15 seconds timer starts. If at the end of this timer there's Auras up and he has TP, he's gonna use one of the 3 "bad" TP moves that basically mean failure.
Because of this we don't want to start this timer until the moment DDs engage on him. So avoid stuff on tank that could deal damage to the boss, like Battuta, spikes, maybe Reprisal I dunno.
With this said and done, how do we prevent the boss from regularly using those dangerous TP moves each time the timer cycle is over?
Need to remove Auras from the 2PLD and 2RNG adds.
And how do you do that?
Physical WS for RNG ones, Magical WS for PLD ones.
Basically a very efficient way to do that is having secondary job engaged on the boss, one spamming physical AoE WS and the other spamming Magical AoE WS (two notable examples being Aeolian Edge and Circle Blade)
While these "secondary" jobs do this, the main DD or DDs can engage and slaughter the boss.
Which can still use his "regular" TP moves, that can be annoying but nothing that will generate a failure.
One key aspect: Make sure the tank pulls boss and adds so that they are VERY stacked together.
You need to make 100% sure that the AoE WSs hit all relevant targets, if one target ends up not being hit, his aura will not be cancelled and boom, failure.
If you kill boss, you basically just won the ambuscade.
Potential setups:
I find this ambuscade has a lot of flexibility in term of jobs, as long as you achieve the goal of the physical and magical AoE which is clearly the key.
An example can be
1x Tank
1x BRD
1x COR
1x healer
2x DDs
Don't really need a WHM. The most dangerous AoE damage is Body slam from the Dahak, which is dead fast. I've done some runs with the BRD/WHM healing lol, just saying. This is especially true if you have a PLD tank, thanks to Majesty.
Speaking of tank, both PLD and RUN work no problem.
In several of my runs we also had a RDM, who was using circle blade and hasting while the BRD healed.
This also works with a single DD, provided he's properly buffed and he's a strong one.
I've done runs without a tank, but at that point you really need a proper healing and I found it was a bit messier, especially at start.
edit:
Another small detail, someone asked if the 2 jobs using the AoE WS should TP on the trolls or on the megaboss.
Pros and cons both ways. If you decide to TP on the trolls, make sure it's the RNG ones because the PLD ones can use invincible, which would make you unable to gain TP.
Also make sure to have Barfire and Baramnesia, the RNGs can use a move that gives amnesia, making you unable to use the AoE WSs.
