RMT DDoS Revenge?
DDoS sympoms on ffxi 3001/3301 errors and more. It's fair to say the recent update news and this could be their protest/riotting.
Wouldn't surprise me one bit.

I'm 99.9% sure (make it 100%, I'm 100% sure) that XI and XIV servers are on the same infrastructure, so its not surprising that XIV is also having issues. still cant get on for more than a few mins. this is the last gain xp time before the update.. starting in 1 hr. im gonna be sad if i cant make my last millions QQ
It's probably far more likely 14 is being DDOSed for something.

Un-***-playable for me right now. Within ten minutes I was kicked off 3 times.
Not like I'll miss a few million gil. I mean... to have it would be nice, but I primarily use Gain Exp to get the weekly accolades needed to keep my Unity Trust happy for the week. Also, I guess RMT is also known as "real massage therapist" in the pr0n "storyline" community. Guess I could look into things other than FFXI for the next four hours. May need a sports drink to rehydrate though.  Easy fix to combat rmt... dont serve china. (Insert trump pic here)
