I just finished wotg for my 2nd account to get it some lilith gear, not gonna lie was frustrated a bit with all the back and forth, took about 2 weeks break @ mission 38, this past saturday I completed and got moonshade in about 6 hours, now to tackle captain for that toon.

Too much running I'm out..
One of the things I did upon returning was finish all story missions and I agree, WotG ones sucked the worst. The cutscenes were also (in my views) excessively long. Glad it's over. Hang in there... it's worth the 10% CP bonus and earring.

Imagine being the player that goes through a story for the second time just for gear and hates it so much that they come to the forums to complain.
People *** if that the best story has too many cutscenes and words. People would also *** if the story for an expansion was short and useless. *cough* Rise of the Zilart *cough* WotG Windy storyline is probably the best storyline of them all.
Just say how you really feel. You want to be done with all the story right away so you can grind out the CP the bestest ever and be the 1337 e-peen toon master!

One thing they got wrong was not letting you have the option to level cap yourself, those fights were a lot more impactful if you did them as they released. Now you just one shot and you don't feel a part of the story, XIV did the new game + they should simply add a level cap option here.

Been playing this game since 2003 and completed all missions; I literally don't know a single thing about the story. Never once cared enough to read/watch a cutscene. Enternity should've been a real in-game option in my opinion.

Question then: Why do you play if you don't care about the story? Honest, non-sarcastic question. I have theories, but I'd love to know.
It would just me Inventory Management Simulator 9,000 to me otherwise with real-time spam yell chat w/o any good memes.

Because I like hurting myself.
But honest answer; I just always enjoyed the combat style of the game (the variety of jobs) and the social aspect of getting to mess around with people while killing some dragons.

I loved all the storylines, especially WOTG. I did feel some were cheesy like ROTZ but they were stretching their MMO legs I guess. Sadly I have the memory of a goldfish so I forgot a lot of it but I remember being excited for them lol.

To be honest, WoTG is an intertwined quest line and mission line at the same time. Your progress in one area often blocks the other, and vice versa.
This is what makes the whole thing stupid. They could have made 50 consecutive missions and 20 side quests. No big deal. Instead, SE intertwined them, where you can go 3-5 quests/missions deep without having to fall back to the other story and it's silly fetch quests/time sinks. :/

And whats the point of playing an RPG if you dont give a damn about the story?
Eh, I feel you on this but it's debatable also so im going to play devil's advocate. This game is an MMORPG, not just any RPG. The difference is there are various goals in an MMORPG (generally around character development) vs a more traditional linear one in a standard RPG (which usually revolves around story). 15 years ago pulling all-nighters playing your favorite MMO, it meant nothing to burn through hours of dialogue because the story WAS the game at that point. It was enjoyable and you didn't mind the story along the way, because it was done gradually over the course of time with friends. You couldn't breeze through it even if you wanted to.
Leveling and being at cap/top end was not as valuable as it is now in FFXI. I can't fault someone for not wanting to sit through 40 hours of story dialogue, especially if this is their 2nd/3rd character etc. Available time is not what it used to be, and for people who are more interested in other goals in an MMO, they should be given freedom to express their disdain for storylines.
I can understand that somewhat. I get some of the 'mini games' were annoying. I get waiting can be annoying.
I can partially get if its your 2nd+ character and having to go through all the scenes. But even then.. How many Final Fantasy titles have we all played and enjoyed but only played once and would never be interested in the story again. The answer is none (or should be). Unless this was your first FF game. ... ... or maybe dissidia. But anyway.. Its final fantasy. Story line is everything to this entire franchise. - If you want potentially annoying in this manner of topic, i remember when i ran 8 mules from starter town to the entrance of port jeuno and then up to The top jeuno area. And while that might not sound like anything, Remember that zoning into the city area triggered a story cut scence. Zoning out into the first combat zone triggered a story cs. Zoning into jeuno triggered a story cut scene. Every time i zoned in jeuno to the next level triggered another story cut scene from the add on's. Try doing all that 8 times over.. And that was before tele crystals, before mounts. New chars with no OP supplies done, no speed equip. Just plain old running start to finish. - Ill admit, at the end of all that.. i was a little annoyed. But i still wasnt complaining about it.
And lets not forget the OP reason for complaining in todays FF..
"WOTG *** this storyline." Too much running I'm out.. At a point in the game where it has never been easier or faster to get around. And even if it is a 2nd+ char, by the time your working on Wotg, you have various modes of transportation available. Better then anything those of us had when this came out.

To be fair, expansions were released in small bursts of content so having some Win/San/Bas[S] storyline to do alongside the WotG missions was a nice way to flesh out the world. Knowing the storyline and going through it all again, to some, may be a pain. Personally, I love WotG & Windy [S] storylines the most and could do them countless times.
Actually, I'm doing that right now. Now that I have 15 mules all LV99 with 5 trusts, I figured I'd go ahead and get them from RoV 2-14 to 2-41+ so I can abuse 16x characters during free Dark Matter augment campaign. Oh, and I'm currently working 15x character's Mog Gardens and Coalitions. You thought you liked abusing yourself? Hold my beer.

The whole time I went through the WOTG missions and all the running around you have to do I just kept reminding myself how rougher it must have been without the homepoint warping. I will say though, IMO, it has the best storyline of all expansions.

I think you just need to learn how to get around the game a bit better. With all the home points, survivals guides, ROE/VW warps and your mount you shouldn't be crying, should of seen it back in the 75 era.

I just skip WOTG atm I thought finishing this was good idea cuz Lilith HTMB but so much headless running. So..no Lilith gear for me. You gotta imagine doing the storyline when it first came out. No mounts or HP crystals. I get your frustrated doing it now is 100 times better then before. But I got to be honest, “so much headless running.” Is this your first FF11 mission or quest from back in the day? I am not trying to be rude but you should remember what kind of game ff11 is. Nah it is only storyline left.

I've played since day 1 of US launch (with a break 2014-2019) and I know very little of the storylines of FF11.
I'm very critical of bad stories. Not to step on someone elses enjoyment of the game or their perception of the storytelling, but for me it was extremely lacking. Add to it the childishness that runs rampant in too many japanese story styles and I just couldn't bring myself to care less who lives, dies, progresses, or exalts within any of these missions other than my character.
FF11 has always had a little too much pokemon to it. I started playing this as a somewhat kid, and even then I remember thinking "Ya, I'm a little too old for this" every time I was forced through a mission storyline.
And comparing to previous titles is not valid. The themes of FF4 (2US), FF6 (3US), and 10 all had excellent advanced themes accessible to kids and adults, generating characters with story arcs that you actually cared about. I enjoyed 9 the most, but it also got a little too childish at times even with it's very advanced and mature ideas.
FF11 falls into the trap where they assume I care about a character because they make that annoying Lightning voice or pretend to *** smack a chocobo. That's not the way story-telling works after age 8.

Treasure of Aht Urhgan /is/ a Disney story. The girl that lives her life in the palace leaves it to adventure with her two comedic sidekicks, Ovjang and Mnejing. They may as well be called Flounder and Sebastion or Timone and Pumba. There are no musical numbers, but there is Captain Jack Luzaf Sparrow the pirate/corsair.
That being said, I do appreciate ToAU the more times I go through it. The zones and music are beautiful. The Odin/Alexander dynamic is good stuff. As I'm slowly making my first mythic, I'm appreciative of all of those that did it when the level cap was 75. Wowzers.

ToAU is an amazing expansion, and I recall helping somebody with a t3 ZNM back at the 75 cap, they were kiting it for forever around a tower. I don't remember much beyond that of it. Never got to do Einherjar, or salvage back in those days. Quite frankly as much as I'm against the private servers if they had ToAU running I could probably get into it.

I thought Nasomi had ToAU or at least some of it functional.
