There were three phases Sav, there usually are.

The idealistic, we can/should do this!

The political, figuring out how to do this.

The bureaucratic, THIS is how we are doing this.

Once they let the bureaucrats in it was all over.

Closer to topic, the Republicans for the Rule of Law drove this around DC:

I don’t think the Left realizes what a liability their own speech-suppressing strategy is. I know the safe space crowd views it as a positive as they’re the ones pushing for enforcement, but they don’t represent the majority. Americans in general really don’t like being censored, and 1984/Jacobin tactics will just drive them to the polls.

This goes beyond politics.

Everything to the left is politics.

It's only "misinformation" when someone other then you and your side spreads it. What you spread it the pure untainted Politically Correct and therefor accurate Truth.

So no you don't get to spread your Canadian authoritarian ideals over here.

Kireek seems to have an unhealthy problem with the left, more than most people here with TDS, but anyways, let's put aside your hatred for the left because what you brought up could be an interesting topic.

Nowadays, misinformation is a powerful weapon. The question is, should anyone be liable for spreading it? This goes beyond politics.

Facebook has been having problems for years now, for a while the conservatives were screaming at them louder than anyone and the left wasn't even involved. If you have a problem with Facebook, don't use it. Simple.

Putting aside the extreme examples (yelling “fire” in a theatre being a popular one), free speech is a right for a reason. Probably the biggest argument against policing “misinformation” is that it’s extremely difficult to enforce evenly. Furthermore, it’s highly subjective. I could easily use nothing but scientifically supported facts to make something totally benign seem highly dangerous. How do you objectively police truths that are selectively reported to mislead?

By "policing" they mean enforcing their view of the world onto others and silencing dissent.

We just need to look at the actions of progressive organizations to see what they really think is "Correct" speech.

Good thing the "left" isn't censoring "movies, video games, or the internet." You are just making stuff up as always. Can you even name a video game "the left" has "censored?"

nice blogs, still waiting for that example of a video game being "censored" by the left. It is fun to watch you spin this narrative tho.

The underlying issue her is idiocy. Not just from people on the left but on the right as well. People are so damn lazy nowadays, most do 0 research. They just believe whatever piece of ***bit of information that is pushed in-front of them.

Most people here be it left or right read up on current events and follow along, some blindly on left and some blindly on right. This is not the average person. They make a conclusion off tiny bits of news and info, especially if it fits their narrative.

In short, society has made misinformation way to damn easy...

Come on Vic for christ sake quit being so lazy a simple search popped up a load of bills by the left on video games...took 3 seconds man..there is a entire wiki on it...instead of just blindly saying "prove it' just do some research..

Video game controversies

Video Games Ratings Enforcement Act Proposed and sponsored by Rep. Matheson, Jim [D-UT-4]

Quote:
On 7 January 2009, Joe Baca, representative of California's 43rd District, introduced H.R. 231, the Video game health labelling act. This bill called for a label to be placed in a "clear and conspicuous location on the packaging" on all video games with an ESRB rating of T (Teen) or higher stating, "WARNING: Excessive exposure to violent video games and other violent media has been linked to aggressive behavior."[156][157] The proposed legislation was referred to the Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection. On 24 January 2011, Joe Baca reintroduced the Video game health labelling act as H.R. 400 of the 112th Congress.[158] The bill was once again passed onto the subcommittee.

Not even close to "censorship." Not trying to alter or change any content in any games, nothing. Doesn't count. Anything else?

Literally a ton of attempts by left and bias against video games.

Quote:
In the early 1980s, Ronnie Lamm, the president of the Long Island PTA sought legislation to govern the proximity of video game arcades to schools.[105] In the 1990s, Joe Lieberman, a US Senator, chaired a hearing about violent video games such as Mortal Kombat.[106] David Grossman, a former West Point psychology professor and lieutenant commander, wrote books about violence in the media including: On Killing (1996) and Stop Teaching Our Kids to Kill (1999).[107] He described first-person shooter games as murder simulators, and argued that video game publishers unethically train children in the use of weapons and harden them emotionally towards commitments of murder by simulating the killing of hundreds or thousands of opponents in a single typical video game.[108]

Quote:
Several groups address video game violence as a topic that they focus on. Groups such as Parents Against Violence, Parents Against Media Violence and One Million Moms take stances aimed at limiting the violence in video games and other media.

Uh huh. So needless to say, based on the complete lack of evidence being provided. the "left" isn't trying to censor videogames anymore than "the right" and you guys can't provide any examples of any recent videogames being targeted for censorship by either side of the aisle.

dude...you just cannot be wrong can you?

Why the hell do you think politicians are passing laws on video games? Do you think they are doing that to "promote" them?

Laws are regulated censorship...

Kireek made up some *** and is being called out on it. You are jumping on his sinking ship and failing just as hard as he is. You cited a pathetic example of a labeling issue over a decade ago that went nowhere. None of that is censorship. Do you even know what censorship means? No one is censoring videogames or even trying to.
