Why do we need a government to tell us how to educate students ?

Really dishonest even for you. That's Detroit, not just any city but Detroit, the progressive liberal Utopia with all those unions and regulations on capital distribution. They attempted charter schools long after the city's economic collapse gutted it's wealth and the city is now in the middle of bankruptcy.

One would think a liberal progressive utopia wouldn't exist in the United States since that would require something like socialism to not be considered a 4 letter word.

If only the USA wasn't a diverse collection of individual governments each with their own laws and regulations. Places like California, New York, Michigan and Illinois are heavily progressive / liberal. Their voters are largely Democrat and vote all sorts of stuff into existence. Only the Supreme Court keeps them in check. California even has "free" universal college, and of course by "free" I mean higher paid workers pay out the nose for it. Good friend of mine was working in California for a big IT company as a coder and getting paid over $150,000 per year. He had to have a room mate in a small two bedroom apartment and had an effective tax rate of nearly 50%. Eventually he got tired of the situation and moved out of the state to take a job for Microsoft. Of course C staffers and other executive level people have ways to substantially reduce their tax burden but middle class / upper middle class professionals don't and get hit with a massive tax burden. States also target companies with those massive tax burdens and companies then find really crafty ways to sidestep and dodge that burden, if possible they move operations out of state or even out of country.

Detroit used to have massive industry with lots of opportunities and growth. Michigan state and more importantly the city of Detroit itself strangled those companies with unions and unfair practices. Naturally when the recession hit the first places to close where those with the highest expense, easily Detroit. When it's time to expand and build a new plant, they chose any place they can get a good deal like Georgia, or even just build the plant in Mexico and deal with the quality issues and corruption.

Democrats/liberals don't just do crony capitalism, they take it to a whole new level.

Remember Solyndra? How about Healthcare.gov? Or any of the many federal government contracts throughout the years, both for defense and infrastructure.

I won't say that Republicans are not involved either (Halliburton, etc.), but at least those contracts are made by capable people, not by the highest donor. In other words, we actually get something in value with the Republican's deals, abet not as valuable as if we actually had vested contractors. Unlike anything in the past 8 years where it was one failure after another.

Both parties are dogshit outside of a handful of reps that are trying, albeit not with much success, to get something worthwhile done for the country.

Those that try to do something that's good for the country generally do it poorly. Or purposefully institute bad law so to further their real agenda (i.e. Obamacare).

Your anecdotes needs to be updated, California hasn't had free college since 1966-67 when Reagan was governor. The universities have been progressively receiving less funding from the state which is why the cost of tuition steadily increases every year.

University in CA is still largely "free". I use those quotes because the actual cost of state University tuition varies depending on applicants parents income. Wealthy people obviously don't qualify for the state subsidized education nor do non-residents. That's another reason those universitys are accepting so many Asian students from China and Korea. Their parents are rich as *** and pay huge amounts to send their kids to "Western Universities" as its big bragging rights.

The point of this is that in order for CA to subsidize this education they need to tax the ever living *** out of middle class workers. Everything has spiraled out of control and $15 USD an hour there is more like $6 USD everywhere else.

In Pennsylvania our Congress critters don't even do what's good for Pennsylvania.

They do what's got for their own pocketbooks, and Pennsylvania voters are *** idiots who keep electing them.

Sounds like you're mixing up in-state tuition v out-state and foreign citizen rates with FASFA. Both of which aren't exclusive to California since one is a federal program and the other is practiced in every state.

I've never even heard of it.

Tourism only really helps a handful of cities/towns. Admittedly most of them are places near and dear to my own heart, but there's a lot more people in need elsewhere to boot. Not to mention the non-tourism workers/population even in those tourism towns are hurting.

It's largely why Pennsylvania went w/ Orangey McOrangeface so hard. What we've done this far hasn't worked, why not try this guy? What's the worst that happens, they set fire to the sinking ship?

But to answer your original question, the only movies shot/based here that have generated any significant buzz were when they shot parts of The Dark Knight Returns in Pittsburgh.

Which was cool, because Pittsburgh actually makes a very good Gotham, not that much of the 'burgh is recognizable for what it is after editing.

Tourism in this part of Pennsylvania has been strong. Took a hit in 2009, but bounced right back in 2010 and has been on the rise since. We've been fortunate, the economy has stayed pretty decent in this part of ole' PA. I guess we can thank the Amish for that. Sorry Western PA, we stole your tourists.

On a serious note:

I'm not joking. I really believe you expect too much from people Ramy. Nobody is like you, nobody will be you, and you shouldn't expect everyone or anyone to hold the same viewpoints/convictions/moral standards as you do.

Morality is by virtue a subjective idea. What may be highly moral to you may not be for me, and visa versa. Just as you pointed out previously, what you hold dear and what you think of everyone else is not, will not, will never be the same as what I or anyone else holds dear either.

For example: You have stated previously that everyone is racist, it's the degree of racism that we exhibit determines how racist we are. You know about my viewpoints about racism (it's really a black/white thing, you are either racist, or not) and I don't think anyone/everyone is racist unless they actually show racism. Those are two moral viewpoints that we strongly disagree with, and nobody is going to share the exact same moral viewpoint as you do, even those who generally agree with you (cause you place a value of racism, what you may consider somebody as 10% racist, somebody else may consider as 5% or 20% racist).
