Here is a news story from a credible site:

Trump held his first VA listening session without veterans advocates
military times

Quote:
White House officials held their first listening session on problems with the Department of Veterans Affairs on Tuesday, but without inviting prominent members of the veterans community to the event.

Officials from the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars said they were not invited to the morning event and did not know about it until it was announced late Monday night, as part of the White House’s routine schedule outline.

Other prominent veterans groups were surprised Tuesday morning by news of the event, and unsure who was invited to take part in the discussion.

White House officials initially did not release any other details of the event, other than the meeting followed a similar listening session with President Trump and county sheriffs discussing local law enforcement issues. A press pool event to take pictures of the meeting was cancelled shortly before the veterans meeting began.

As news spread of the meeting, Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., said White House officials told him the meeting was with health care executives, and that veterans groups would be invited for a similar session later.

In the afternoon, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer released a statement saying the meeting included Tiffany Smiley, the wife of a veteran who was blinded by a roadside bomb in Iraq, Isaac Perlmutter, chairman of Marvel Entertainment, and "health care experts" discussing "actions are necessary to improve health care access and quality for our heroic veterans."

In early January, at the same news conference where he announced Dr. David Shulkin as his pick to take over as the new VA secretary, Trump said he would set up an advisory panel to discuss department reforms, particularly in health care offerings.

“We have some of the great hospitals of the world going to align themselves with us on the Veterans Administration, like the Cleveland Clinic, like the Mayo Clinic,” he said.

“We're gonna set up a group. These are hospitals that have been the top of the line, the absolute top of the line. And they're going to get together with their great doctors … and we're gonna straighten out the VA for our veterans.”

That's why you need to fight to improve the public system if it is broken and not just go "sucks to be those who can only go to public".

Quite simply education does not have to be a market, same for health. They are the two principles that should be considered universal rights in any nation. If citizens aren't guaranteed those two things and protection then they might as well not be part of a nation, it's just being guests in a corporate resort.

You really don't get it, federalized education just creates an virtual monopoly on education to an industry that's already established. Supply and Demand don't give a flying *** what your ideology is or if you agree with them or not, they are absolutely ruthless in their cause : effect.

The US education system is horribly broke because of Americans with your mind set being exploited by bureaucrats and Education Industry entities. We already have a free nationalized education system, it's called "Public School" and we all get to go for free based on where you live. People will move and pay exorbitant home prices just to make sure their kids go to a specific set of schools, even if they need to commute over an hour each way. The funds for Public School come from property taxes and from Federal Assistance, and the way the money is divided up is that the bureaucrat administrators and their union backers take the lions share while giving whats left to the teachers. Teachers are then forced to work for the unionized government public school because legislation gives a virtual monopoly to that same public school system.

It's no different then a government giving a monopoly to Comcast for internet with exclusive access to public infrastructure. That's how we got *** up shitty quality internet in the USA despite being the people who pioneered and invented it in the first place. Nobody can compete with them and so they aren't incentivized to expand and upgrade their own infrastructure nor offer any sort of sane price plan. Throw in a single viable competitor (dial up doesn't count) and suddenly the dynamic changes, now they need to provide good service at decent prices to prevent customers from going to the other guys.

There needs to be an incentive for the bureaucrats who run Public School to actually give a *** about people other then themselves. Expecting them to actually care about your children "because of the goodness in their hearts" is ridiculously cute though equally naive. Humans operate on incentives, and they respond best to fear of loss.

Then change the rules about administrators. Instead of crying like a *** that boohoo humans are meanies, use the law to your advantage.

I live in a country where private education is extremely small and our public educational programs are excellent(not so much the sloppy method through which teachers are hired which I strongly disagree with).

And unlike practically every poster here I've actually seen how the bureaucratic systems work from the inside and monetary efficiency is the last thing on their minds.
Actually, if it's like the federal government, I believe I have you beat on seeing first hand the absurdity of bureaucracy.

It is needed, but damn, I can't seem to find a smart, intelligent, or even tolerable federal government employee. Practically every single one of them is a complete waste of space.

No wonder the hiring guidelines are so lenient for them.

That's why I said virtually, think your one of the few who've had experience working with them. Specifically I've done budgeting within their departments and the way ***works is insane. I've also seen how they hire and promote and it's so *** corrupt it belongs on a late night comedy show. They then form cliques that all help each other out to *** past the checks and validate their jobs and need for a promotion and a bigger budget. That's why I know, beyond any doubt, that throwing more money at education is just wasting it, it won't get to the teachers or the kids, it only goes to the bureaucrats and their pet projects. Those bureaucrats will create new projects just, pull a Bush "mission accomplished" declare their projects a resounding success and use it to argue for more money, bigger promotion or more staff, which just fuels the argument for the previous. The waste will always expand to fill any additional funds granted.

So like I said, no competition means no reason to actually give a damn. Government employees aren't incompetent, they some crafty SoB's when it comes to gaming the system. They just don't have any incentive to do more then the absolute minimum to not get axed, and with unions making performance based axing nearly impossible, well that sets a rather low bar.

It's the administrators that make the rules. Why on earth would they change them? They are card carrying Democrats and always in favor of bigger government with zero accountability to the voters.

What do you think Common Core was? It was an attempt to create a federal mandated standardized testing system to generate metrics to judge and measure school performance. Aka it was an attempt to form competition between schools and it failed miserably because the same people who benefit from the current situation would never allow their position to be jeopardized. We're long past the point where a policy change can "fix" anything. The teachers union, and their paid Democrat supporters, would nullify practically any attempt at administrative change that would topple their kingdoms.

Sehe, one question. Where the *** do you think the Democrat party gets it's support and financing? I mean we already know you believe the evil capitalist corporations buy Republican politicians, but who do you think is funding the other team?

There will never be change as long as senior administrators are involved, and nothing in the current system can change without them being involved. Thus the only solution is to create an alternate system to force competition into the market. If parents start sending their kids to private schools, then those same senior administrators start suffering funding problems and loss of power, which is something they'll never tolerate.

It's almost like senior government executives function the exact same as senior corporate executives... except you can't really fire them.

I only said this about Devos and I only specifically mentioned it to highlight Nausi's hypocrisy on that particular matter.

That being said I hope you are understanding that I'm debating a topic strictly on an ideological level because I cannot offer concrete solutions to the US issue specifically as I'm both too detached from it and don't have the arrogance to claim to be experienced enough to get into the gritty details of the matter. If we forget that I'm just engaging in phylosophy right now we will get into needless misunderstandings.

There's a middle fourth way. Which is to challenge the system and do what you can to try to change it as you care about your life. Sure, only few people actually get the rare chance to make a dent in it, but if your small efforts can improve the life of even one more person then it was worth it. You can't give in just because something is hard.

I refuse to surrender and refuse those who surrender. You can rest a little tired man, but then we're going back to the mosh pit!!

While I appreciate your zeal, I have nothing left to give. my contribution will have to be 3 sensible, well educated, and open minded children. may the next generation have better luck...

And as far as schools go, well here's an article about the school system in Michigan, championed my Ms DoVos:
