Ooh, good allusion. And speaking of, you got me to reread The Lotos-eaters by Tennyson, and... holy crap. The parallels between the soldiers lured by the addictive fruit to be blinded of their original idealism and Trump followers is frightening.

The Lotos blooms below the barren peak:
The Lotos blows by every winding creek:
All day the wind breathes low with mellower tone:
Thro' every hollow cave and alley lone
Round and round the spicy downs the yellow Lotos-dust is blown.
We have had enough of action, and of motion we,
Roll'd to starboard, roll'd to larboard, when the surge was seething free,
Where the wallowing monster spouted his foam-fountains in the sea.
Let us swear an oath, and keep it with an equal mind,
In the hollow Lotos-land to live and lie reclined
On the hills like Gods together, careless of mankind.
For they lie beside their nectar, and the bolts are hurl'd
Far below them in the valleys, and the clouds are lightly curl'd
Round their golden houses, girdled with the gleaming world:
Where they smile in secret, looking over wasted lands,
Blight and famine, plague and earthquake, roaring deeps and fiery sands,
Clanging fights, and flaming towns, and sinking ships, and praying hands.
But they smile, they find a music centred in a doleful song
Steaming up, a lamentation and an ancient tale of wrong,
Like a tale of little meaning tho' the words are strong;
Chanted from an ill-used race of men that cleave the soil,
Sow the seed, and reap the harvest with enduring toil,
Storing yearly little dues of wheat, and wine and oil;
Till they perish and they suffer—some, 'tis whisper'd—down in hell
Suffer endless anguish, others in Elysian valleys dwell,
Resting weary limbs at last on beds of asphodel.
Surely, surely, slumber is more sweet than toil, the shore
Than labour in the deep mid-ocean, wind and wave and oar;
O, rest ye, brother mariners, we will not wander more.

It's like neither. Your metaphors fail to account for the fact that if you manage to get past Trump you're still screwed. Think of it like a two-headed hydra where you have time to chop off one head before you get eaten.

And here you all are fumbling with the sinking of the Dutchman's ship like Candide and and his pessimistic buddy.

Hey! This could even be a wee bit o' Twain and his musings about the unfortunate whistle salesman amongst the Mormons!

Told ya Trump was going to be the Republican nominee.
That's like telling us the sky is blue, we all kinda figured that out a long time ago. Thanks, Captain Obvious.

The only way Trump wasn't going to be the nominee is if there was a contested convention in which case they'd probably give the nomination to someone else who the Republican party either has by the balls or could have by the balls at the drop of a hat. The meltdown of such a situation would be fun to watch.

I'm talking about summer / fall of last year when I said that Trump was going to win and the posters here pulled the "oh no he couldn't possibly blah blah".

Lol, so wasn't expecting Sanders to win. I bet the sound of a collective facepalm from the Clinton staff could be heard across all the states.

In other news...Cruz is out BUT Kasich's still there!! I'm starting to love this guy, he has never been above any other candidate but he just waits for them to leave lol.

Kasich is probably the candidate that the GOP wanted to begin with, but they have to live with Trump.

Trump could throw a curveball and nominate Kasich as his VP.

Christie offers Trump nothing. He's disliked in NJ, his brash bullying nature is Trump'd by Trump.

Looking at what the media had to say about Trump's chances of winning the nomination is rather humorous in hindsight. I didn't discount him nearly as much as a lot of people, but I know there was at least one point where I thought it was the beginning of the end for him. What a show.

12 of the most misguided media predictions about Donald Trump

I knew things were bad among Republicans but few could imagine that things were so bad and organization so off the rails that Donald Trump of all people could upend a multi-million dollar political operation and their best efforts to stop him.

The party of business, efficiency, and low taxes defeated by a guy who has no plans and wants you to trust that his vast business experience (but only the ones that haven't failed) will make him the best candidate for POTUS. It's gonna be 'yuge!

And who would have thought that a cranky old socialist with grassroots funding could give an establishment juggernaut a run for her money? Spin this into a Republican problem all you want, but the establishment frustration is nearly bursting the Democrats' seams too.

Psst, Rav. I said that already. Less than a day ago infact.

Point is, we're talking Republican news because Cruz dropped out of the race and now so has Kaisch.

Why would IS do anything to Trump?

That man would single handed increase recruitment once he's done re-instituting torture, killing terrorists families and knocking them the f*ck out. Whatever that means.

Remember, it's Dems and the ACLU's reason we haven't won the war yet. If we had our soldiers bathing the blood of the innocent and carpet bombing cities in Iraq and Syria everyone would already be living in a modern democracy.

Our millitaries cucked! Everyone's too politically correct. Kill 'em all, let God sort them out.

The only recruitment tool ISIS has ever needed is the weakness of President Obama. Kicking Americas *** for 4 years has been great for recruitment while all Obama has done is droned civilians.

Well they haven't even come close to Obama and considering they have lost 30% of their territory, a huge chunk of their on-hand cash, have taken a big hit to their income, they will be lucky to still be in business by the time Trump loses the election. Europe isn't taking them seriously but the US is, we are killing them everyday.

Not really... People just don't like Hillary and younger voters are looking for different types of promises that have more to do with what sanders is putting out there... If someone like Biden would have run he would have crushed her and sanders...

If Democrats aren't frustrated with the establishment then they're even dumber than I thought. Regardless, Biden would only have crushed Hillary because he actually has a shred of charisma. Bernie's voters might have stayed with him because they actually like his message, but obviously it's all speculation at this point.
