Fallout 3.

Don't get me started on NV.

Oh god. Why did you even mention it.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

3. The "local old-timey radio" is more or less the same in 3 and 4, with some minor additions/removals. NV was all Vegas style lounge music.

[Edit: wow, I had totally blanked out the country parts of the radio, THANKS RAMY]

You mean you weren't a fan of Texas Red?

EDIT: OK the song was called Big Iron.

Something you guys need to understand about me.

There are basic life functions I can't remember how to do because I know all the words to every country song of the 90s, and I don't even like country in general and hate 99% of these songs.

But I heard them, so they're in here.

Having played hundreds of hours of Fallout 3/NV?

Those songs are burned in. If you put me in the memory machines in Goodneighbor you'd see images of the Courier and the Lone Wanderer gunning down raiders and super mutants to these songs.

Speaking of Goodneighbour, people had been speaking about it in game and I just noticed it as an undiscovered location on my Pipboy yesterday. I may have to check it out.

Edit: Semi-related; are followers immortal if you send them off to little-used settlements and don't pay attention to them?

I normally keep everyone in Sanctuary but getting real tired of Strong getting pissy just because I decided to mod a weapon.

I don't think you're quite there, yet, but a few of the followers can die in certain situations. Other than that, even if a settlement gets raided, they don't die. I do think they will leave your service if you don't build any affinity and let them get wrecked enough times, though.

You will get sent there as part of the main story and several of the smaller questlines.

I know of one follower for certain that can die/leave your service as part of a particular chosen storyline path.

Otherwise I'm not sure.

Whatever. If that idiot Strong bails, *** him anyhow.

I assigned him to a set of farms way on the edge of sanctuary. Too far to notice.

How can you trust a guy that follows you based on an entirely stupid false premise, and would happily murder you the second he finds out he's wrong? (or not, I assume he's got some sort of endearing sidequest of his own, but whatever.)

It's like be an Evangelist preacher. Sure there's a ton of money and stupid people willing to listen to you, but eventually the IRS is going to expose you and you're going to get eaten alive.

His affinity is easy to get back, since "killing things" and "helping others" are what he seems to like the most.

Was it that Kotaku article or w/e? (It may have been a similar site.)

Is this the same article that had the comment of Paladin Danse Danse Revolution?

I just know they ranked Piper lower than Deacon and that ***doesn't fly for me.

I like Strong just because he's the first super mutant follower that isn't that one super mutant totally different from the others. Except for Lily, she was crazy as hell.

Yep! Crap article. Amazing comment section.

On a side note... as lame as it seems, I just favor Dogmeat. If you grab the "Lone Wanderer" Perk, it's active even if you have Dogmeat as a companion. Lots of damage taken down, carry weight up, AND additional carry weight from the dog. Kinda win/win/win

"He was the first except he wasn't."

Oi vey.

But...super mutants that aren't totally different from the others are awful. Seriously. Strong is like, the one companion who actively approves of cannibalism. -.-;

I just can't get behind that.

(Unless it's to sneak up on them and kill them. Then I'll get behind that.)

Nice.

Admittedly I was hoping that was the World Series bat and he'd manage to send the Suicider flying before he could blow up.

Yeah, that's been mentioned before, but I have to mention again in that regard that I can't let Dogmeat travel with me. They made him *too* real. Poor guy cries and whimpers so sadly when he gets hit. It tugs at my little black heart. Best he stay in Sanctuary, where it's safe and there's plenty of clean water and Brahmin meat.

Worst part about that is when you are heading up some fire escape or walking along a ledge... even though he technically doesn't fall, Dogmeat will glitch while following you and make a sound like he fell.
Just kind of a small whoosh and a smack/whimper from down below. EVERY time I turn around after that he's still there just staring back at me like

I totally need to do that. I have a legendary chopchop somewhere in my crate of legendary goodies I think...

Edit: Nope, I'm *certain* I have one, I remember now, I named it Butcher Pete's Knife.

Butcher Pete, more than anything else (even the revamped DJ) is why I can't listen to Diamond City Radio.

Seriously, two songs about that ***? No wonder that generation dropped the bomb.

Yes, I know the song came out later

So bongo, bongo, bongo I don't want to leave the Congo, oh-no-no-no-no-no

Bingle, bangle, bungle I'm so happy in the jungle, I refuse to go

I seriously awake from nightmares with that song in my head. Joke-free, 100% serious. That song is engrained into my psyche.

I mean, I'm at work and I still just looked around to see if there was a bottle of rum to help me deal with having typed it.

Edit: Butcher Pete, inversely, is fine with me. It's a bit of an earworm too, but it's all marvelous sexual innuendo and I can do that all day.

I love the Bongo, bongo, bongo song so much that it found its way onto my iPod. Seriously. Maybe I need help.

Also, I'm a HUGE map nerd, and I'm from Boston - so I've really been fascinated with the exploration aspect of this game, and how it matches up with RL.

So of course I made a map with some RL/IG landmarks marked, and a red box around the approximate explorable area. Matches up pretty well.

Also, this stuff:

The Castle:

Goodneighbor:

Parsons Asylum:

Parsons could have been cooler/scarier than it was, there are a lot of screwed up stories about that place, inmate torture/experimentation, etc... and for years that place was abandoned and a major destination for Urb-Ex fans. And the inside was like something right out of a Fallout game...

Lynn Woods: (I swear this exact spot is in the game, Mirelurks galore down by the water)

Lynn Woods Tower:

Saugus Iron Works: (not so accurate this time)
