Guys, when did we start caring about where pres candidates are born?

Besides, if your dad or mom is an American citizen, then you are automatically a US citizen. "Natural born" doesn't mean born on US soil, it just means there is no naturalization required.

It's a non issue, just like Obama.

That's a misconception. If you are born on foreign soil, you are entitled to natural born status, but there is paperwork involved. If both parents are US citizens, you file a notification that your child was born abroad. If only one parent is a US citizen, it gets a little more complicated depending on where the parents reside and how long, etc.

Natural born citizenship is not automatically granted unless you file that notification and receive receipt of filing on or before their 18th birthday and only if they reside in the physical US, etc etc etc.

TL:DR - Birth Abroad doesn't automatically grant natural-born status.
Doesn't matter if it's automatic or not, citizenship for offspring is a privilege extended to all US citizens.

I would love to see Cruz run so we can have "birthers" on the other side of the aisle come out of the woodwork. Like how Candlejack went on a tangent earlier.

If the notification isn't "filed" on or before their 18th birthday or they are not residing within the US, naturalization is required. So, if Ted Cruz's parents didn't file that notice by that point, he would not be eligible for president. This rule changed in 2001, and people born before that have slightly different circumstances. I'm not an immigration lawyer, obviously, so I don't know specific exceptions. I'm just pointing out that being born abroad to US parents doesn't automatically grant "natural born" status.

I just like the irony, and I hope the question comes up at some point, so we can hear his justification behind the hypocrisy.

He likely means beyond the primaries. I think we can all agree that he won't be THE candidate the GOP puts forth for the general election.

Sorry, I meant actual presidential campaign, not just the primaries.

He's at the primaries point now. Big difference, really.

At the moment, Republicans aren't going to throw "birthers" at him (except for a few idiots, like Trump). But I can guarantee you that the liberals will.

I'll be grabing the popcorn too.

He's likely got my vote in the primaries, definitely if he makes it to the general.

If that's how you want to look at it, but I mean specifically Ted Cruz, having been outspoken about Obama's eligibility. I'm sure he has some kind of internal justification, I'd like to hear it, or see him stumble and refuse to admit it was a pointless distraction.

a.) They already have done.

b.) They're being sardonic about it because they were never fooled by the real motivation of the Obama birthers.

It's Poe's Law, though: some people don't see the satire.

The media isn't blind to the parody. And I guess no one at Fox News has noticed yet.

You really don't understand politics if you think Cruz has a chance. Cruz is just there to energize the base. The establishment picks the candidates, and as it appears now, Jeb is leading that race, though Walker isn't entirely out yet.

I think the third GOP candidate, namely Rocky Slate (made up name, what with being a rock) has the best chance of winning.

He could take a hard stance on anything, then smooth out the edges.

What's wrong with Scott Walker?

Assuming he somehow skirts charges for campaign finance violations, he's openly pro-life and opposes "abortion funding". Which isn't actually a thing, it's just code for Planned Parenthood, so he's going to have trouble appealing to moderate women. He wants to put marriage definitions in the hands of churches, since there's no legal basis for denying same-sex marriage, no idea how that sits with LGBT. He's all about Reaganomics, which has his state in default...

Seriously, there's a lot wrong with Scott Walker as a primary candidate.

Oh really now?

I'm sure you are going to post a biased source that would say that they are, but the CAFR says otherwise. Especially in a state that holds $1.5 billion in cash on hand with less than a billion in total liabilities.

But I guess to you, that's defaulting....

If you have taken even 1 business course in your entire life, you would know what you just said is ***.
