So I've been shopping around for a Dodge Challenger, but i'm having trouble figuring out which of the Challengers have MDS engines in them. I've been looking specifically at R/T 5.7 V8s. My brother has one and has MDS, but I want some sort of documentation stating which engines/vehicles do.
Could someone help me out?

I thought all Dodges with V8's since 2004 and several Jeeps were MDS.

It's an interesting idea, I'm not really a Mopar fan so I don't really know but my sister drives a Dodge Stratus.
 Well, it can be turned off. Most cylinder shutdown systems cannot. But, it exists for 2 reasons:
1. make the hippies happy. 2. increase the claimed economy for CAFE purposes. That's why it can be turned off. Looks like the 09 has it, still looking for 2010
Chrysler.com and for "Claimed", my brother calculated that he gets about 27-30 highway (when MDS would come into play) Personally, I want a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara in Tank Green. Not sure if they have MDS equipped.

Just got it verified, MDS is only in automatics. And I quote:
"Manuals can't because that's controlled by the transmission when it shifts into overdrive. Only the automatics have overdrive. 6th or 6th gear in a manual acts the same way. That's why a lot of the times the manuals get better gas mileage than automatics" Talking to a buddy who works on cars for a living, says that Manuals when in 5th/6th (which you'll use highway) are pretty much MDS. All cylinders still used, but less gas required because of the gear ratio in the transmission being so low.
Manuals are a lot more fun to drive, the "better mileage" was just a cherry on top imo If I drove a manual...I'd probably speed everywhere I went, I feel I have to use all the gears. That goes for our tractor too...I actually shift through all the gears. >.>
Challenger Engines w/ Multi-Displacement System is only from 2009 and up on all automatic RTs and SRTs. No MDS on manuals @_@. Just buy a 6speed. MDS works when on high speed, it shuts off 4 of the 8 cylinders to save a little gas. It's as Lilbuttons stated for manuals, all cylinders still used but less gas required and a looooot more fun to drive.
