That's normal...in 20 years what is liberal now will be a conservative stance and progress will have pushed the left party onto something new.

Socialism isn't progress. It has been tried many times before. It always ends the same.
I'm talking of what is considered progressive and what is considered conservative.

They both change with time and the reason is in the meaning of the words themselves. Times change so what you want to conserve isn't the same as before(that's retrograde), because progress pushes forward, and progressive ideologies' intent is to push faster.

As for economy that depends on a lot more factors and has to be adapted with the current times and conditions of a country. But you can always have fun talking about who did what wrong before.

He can sell the Democrat fake sympathy for everyone but middle class white men better than she can.

Maybe that's why I don't like him that much. And I really dislike Hillary. And why I prefer Sanders win or lose.

I like the actual Democrat/socialist structures, not the twisted-to-accommodate-the-electorate version mainstream Dems are selling that just seems to *** things up more and more.

I like that it is out in the open now. I remember all the fake outrage, all the people pretending to be offended in 2008 when it was suggested that Obama might be socialist. At least now the Democrats will openly admit that they are the Socialist party.

The lies that the Republican party has moved too far to the right. The Republican party is as left now as the Democrats of the 90's. The truth is everything looks far right when the Democrat party is as left as left can be.

I like how you take the statements of one person to be for a whole group of people.

Also like how you are in complete denial of reality.

The bold is just hilarious, I'd almost think you were using satire.

Not always, we're talking about mostly the same things still. It's sad that America hasn't evolved much past the cold war propaganda, I blame the baby-boomers (rightfully so).

Edit: I see your point Seha, but it is a bit different than what was being jabbed at.

Well, that's part of the problem with progressivism. Just because something is different doesn't mean it's "progress", it's just viewed as such because people don't know any better.

America loves socialism, though, they just don't want to have to pay for it.

Which is good, because it seems like a majority of Americans that love socialism don't have a clue what the word "free" means.

More that they value some things above money.

No, they value their money plenty. It's other people's money they don't value. You know, the ones who have to work for it.

No, not really. You have this idea of socialism in a vacuum where people who work have to pay for people who are too lazy to. The reality of socialism is public property benefits everyone, and we take for granted many of those things. For example: public roadways. You don't hear people without cars complaining that their taxes pay for the roads that other people use. Gas taxes are for the highway fund, but people who only use gas for their lawn mower or other non-DOT engines are still paying the road tax. Same goes with national parks. People collectively feel national road systems and public parks are worth more than the cost.

For the record, there is also a big difference between democratic socialism and the communism/socialism that some countries have tried. You can't compare Finland to Cuba as if they have the same form of government.

People watching and sharing it is what makes it trend. That means a large enough portion of the Internet agrees with what he's saying that it eclipses cat pictures and celebrity gossip. You only have to compare his views on Youtube to realize that a LOT of people agree with what he is saying.

Eh, progressive doesn't mean progress in all it's forms, obviously. But, just because they get it wrong sometimes or even a lot of the time doesn't mean it's always wrong, or that we should abstain from change simply because it MAY be fruitless. That's a founding principle of capitalism as well.

That's fair, as change is sometimes needed. But often you get that narrative that people who oppose progressive platforms are anti-progress when in reality they're just anti-stupidity.

I don't know if that's just a blanket reaction, but a lot of the anti-progress is really just anti-change. The ones that have legitimate reservations about change are often the minority and get grouped in by association. Truly, if there weren't people loudly opposing everything different, that stigma wouldn't exist. That is exactly why I distanced myself from some of my more conservative ideals, I was tired of having to answer for the Cliven's in the group.

Well to be a liberal all you have to do is agree with them. I mean it's really that simple. Original ideas need not apply !

Where is to be a Republican you have to hate women and be racist. Which requires a bit more effort.

I don't hate women, nor am I a racist. I know this because I am friends with several racist women that I keep locked in my attic. That's how it works, right? Let me check my notes....

I don't hate women I hate feminists. And hopefully not all women are feminists. If that is true well. I'll look forward to endless discussion of my male privilege. Instead of actually getting to know said women.

Agreed, but an idiot agreeing for all the wrong reasons shouldn't beholden me to every other stupid idea they have and voice. Just as the corrupted and twisted ideas many associate with "socialism" shouldn't taint the whole. People like Castro, who took an authoritarian idea and called it socialism are justification for painting the walls with anti-progressive rhetoric, but people like Reagan who did the same and called it conservatism aren't viewed as outsiders, but rather flocked around and worshiped.

These pathetic red vs blue binary political battles just plain have to stop. There is not a single issue that either side is completely correct on and not a single person who wholey agrees with the party mantra. Political parties are treated like sports teams, your dad was a Red Sox fan, so Fenway is your Mecca and you the Yankees and all their fans are pure evil. In reality, both sides have good ideas and bad ideas, and a smart person will look at issues, look at the ideas put forth, and choose the best solution irrespective of which party pushed it.

What is trending can easily be manipulated just to get it out there for people to see.

It's more honest than "popular" music, which is determined by payola and a handful of media executives that manufacture popularity.

Some internet trends are manipulated, but they do it for revenue, not to promote a political agenda. John Oliver is saying stuff people agree with, the analytics on his videos tell the tale. Most people watch more than 90% of the video, that's a level of retention that no conventional media has. Not only that, viewers are very likely to watch all his videos, not just the one they saw linked on facebook.
