I wasted a lot of time doing really pointless stuff.
That's less a description specific to MMOs and more a description of life in general.

True but the MMO felt like more a job than my actual job...it stopped being fun years ago.
That is more of a problem with the way MMO games are setup though.

There are some good perks in knowing how to word it on a resume, and the details of things required to make everything go smoothly.
It can also be used as a team leader experience thing if you're in that position to go from small cog, to slightly less of a small cog.
By fonewear 2015-07-15 15:47:31
I never lead anything in an MMO. I played the game to relax not to be responsible for others.

It depends on the job you're applying for, I guess. I wouldn't dare put anything like that on my resume if I was applying for a position with a less-than-modern company.

So if you want to work for Starbucks you shouldn't put "I lead a team of introverts through the treacherous area know as Dynamis Bastok."And that is why I would be good at leading you guys making mocha lattes !

So it's a "pick and choose what applies to X, Y, or Z" scenario. As it's always been.

You're forgetting the Entitlement attitude required for working for Starbucks. You know, the Barista thing like knowing the difference between a chai latte and a mocha double espresso grande makes you better than everyone else.

I can't imagine anyone wanting "former XI guild leader" on their resume but that is just me !
Especially if the interviewer actually played the game.
"So, you are skilled at gathering a large group of people to do things for you, only to disband as soon as it is someone else's turn to benefit?"
I can see that working out, though, if the sentence is followed by, "Welcome to Goldman Sachs!"

Hey Starbucks wouldn't taste good if you couldn't look down on those drinking Folger's !
By fonewear 2015-07-15 15:53:56
I will give credit to my local Starbucks they aren't smug...to me at least !
I just order coffee though. I don't order anything fancy.

Just one of those themoreyouknow moments but Italy has slowly but surely turned into a tropical country. 50 years ago it was unthinkable to have tornadoes and now they're becoming common, as well as temperature and rainfalls in line with what you'd expect from the tropics.
Perfectly stable climate.

Who knows, instead of supervisor, they may make you a business partner.

Also to go back on what was discussed earlier: I always found incredibly arrogant how each generation undermines the artistic value of the following ones.
Music today isn't ***(well, not all of it), you're just old and cling to the past. And current generation will do the same with the next one.. music was so much better in 2020, what's up with these kids of 2050?!

The thing is Nicki Minaj has no artistic value ! Art is highly subjective yes. But you know good art/music when you see/hear it. It should be timeless.
You think 20 years from now people will care about Iggy Azeala ?

I think you might want to actually read what was said: Not one person said that this generation of music was all garbage or bad. Only specific artists' songs or their rendition of the classics butchered the originals, or became creepy when sung by 6 and 7 year olds.
There are plenty of great up and coming artists, artists that manage to stay relevant, or change the style of music they play to reflect on who they are now.
Example: Kid Rock always used to do a lot of "hard core Rock" (or so I've heard), then switched to country music, because it was something he always wanted to do.
When I say I don't like an artist's music, I'm not saying they are horrible songs, or that they aren't talented. It just doesn't speak to me, and thus I don't like that song, series of songs, their album, or albums.
Sure, everyone is going to have a preference for the music they know and love - that's part of what makes it a classic, and part of why musicians are trying to come up with something new for themselves, and their fans.

Are you really basing all your faith in the ability of people to use modeling to explain the past? Does it really not matter to you that for the last 30 years when they've taken those algorithms (Al Gore Rhythms?) and pushed them out 5-10-20 years, they've consistently been wrong? Why does that not matter? Would you give your 401k money to a stock broker who claimed to be able to predict the stock market but has never been able to earn his clients any money? Move those goalposts smarter not harder.
Post evidence for the bolded. Remember kiddies: put up or shut up.
The whole premise of their modeling (CO2 is a potent, big deal greenhouse gas on an unstable climate) is wrong at the fundamental level. A) To the extent that we know it, the climate has been entirely stable for many many millennia. Such a stable system does not by its very nature bend very easily to "runaway" effects. It was stable because no substantial changes were being made to the system. Then in comes human industry and now that is no longer the case.
B) The volume/saturation of CO2 we're talking about is such a small modifier, that honestly the bigger worry isn't that it will cook us, but that once it gets to about 15,000 ppm (30+ times what's there today) it might start to affect our respiratory systems. Replace some of your body's molecules with 80ppm ( the estimated increase of CO2 since 1960) of plutonium. Maintain that it's just a small modification. Change is relative. Just because it feels small to our tiny lizard brains doesn't mean ***.
Still waiting for any kind of reputable source for your claims.
