How?

Ok I'll bite. Black ***. Done. For far too long black *** have been oppressed. Set them free !

Plus I watched that movie 12 years as a slave. That counts as diversity studies.

I don't actually care, but a Starship Troopers image felt like it could help the thread.

How many times do I have to insult her and the Clintons in general before you get over yourself enough to realize I really don't like her any more than you do?

It's just not a big *** issue. All politicians lie, even your precious Tea Party candidates who make their living sniffing the Koch brothers' taints.

Any of you know who Alonzo Bodden is?

He's a comedian who's done a skit on Just For Laughs who made jokes about defending white people... to other white people.

He's great. Used to be on Mad TV I think, too? Good stuff. Has (Had? Not sure if it's still there.) a really good special on Netflix.

Dana Gould does a great special too called "Let Me Put My Thoughts Into You".

He also touches on global warming, among a ton of other topics, and it's pretty great.

disappointingly only 2/3 of the people are going to die... the other third will take a few steps back before the water fills their cake holes and then empty their laser rifle clips at the rescue helicopter drones

President Kardashian will order everyone to rapidly boil the water away.. and then leave to tour the the devastation of the mars colony catastrophe.

Quote:
Editor’s Note: On Monday, General Motors announced a $5 billion stock buyback. The beleaguered car-maker is appeasing grumbling shareholders by making their shares worth more.

Buying back stock limits its supply and therefore artificially drives up its value. To make those purchases, GM is reducing its cash reserves from $25 billion to $20 billion. (Recall that you, the taxpayer, helped prop up GM’s cash reserves with a $49.5 billion bailout in 2009.)

The stock buyback, combined with higher dividends, is expected to result in $10 billion for shareholders through 2016. It’s a grand time to be holding GM stock. And a bad time to have been behind the wheel of one of the thousands of defective vehicles for which GM is currently under investigation by the Department of Justice.

But GM’s not the only corporation throwing taxpayers under the bus. Almost all public companies do stock buybacks, writes plutocrat progressive Nick Hanauer in the following Making Sen$e column. He should know. The entrepreneur and original Amazon investor has done them too.

Hanauer authored the most popular post ever on this page last fall: on corporations not paying overtime and how doing so would address the crisis of growing economic inequality. He was also featured in a story of ours on the minimum wage and in Robert Reich’s film, “Inequality for All.”

The billionaire investor has used his high-profile platform to address his peers, most famously in the 2014 TED talk, “Beware, fellow plutocrats, the pitchforks are coming.” Today, he returns to Making Sen$e with another example of, to him, extravagant corporate overreach: stock buybacks.

...

Our crisis of income inequality wasn’t principally caused by the rich not paying enough tax, even though we don’t. Rather, it is largely the product of the $1 trillion a year that once went to wages, but now goes to corporate profits. And this demand and investment-killing trillion-dollar-a-year transfer of wealth from the bottom 80 percent of households to the top 1 percent is the direct result of the economic and regulatory policies both Republicans and Democrats have imposed since the dawn of the trickle down era.

1.) duh and/or hello that's what I am paying them to do...

2.) the policies only creates the "environment".. the flow of money comes from millions of dumbfounded dipshits hurling their money at me every time I wave some something shiny in their faces.

I spend two hundred billion dollars a year telling you what to think and what to buy and what to like.

do you think you chose the products you buy every day on a whim?

think about this. what you eat for lunch today is a result of which marketing campaign had the greatest impact. those results will be analyzed and tomorrow a new campaign will be launched and it's impact will also be measured.....

Do you know what you are going to eat on friday? I do. Pizza
do you know why? because I told you to. you are going to be hungry for pizza on friday and every pizza place in america is going to be packed

I know (suspect, anyhow) you're just being facetious, but as a member of the generation that has grown up completely inundated in advertising, I'm not sure I even react to it anymore.

I make the overwhelming majority of my food from scratch. The small percentage that I get pre-prepared, as from a restaurant or as a frozen meal, probably has some ad campaign somewhere but I couldn't tell you the last time I saw, for instance, an ad for Hungry Howie's pizza. I only mostly go there because it's walking distance and I'm too cheap to pay delivery fees.

I'm really not sure that advertising, traditional advertising, works anymore. I can't think of a single friend who went out and bought anything. Unless it was from Apple, of course. *** Apple.

There are certainly those not nearly as swayed by advertising, but sadly it still works wonders on the majority.

Personally I tend to have adverse reactions to bad advertising. I may never buy a BMW because of a good commercial, but I promise you I'll never buy a *** Lexus because of stupid commercials.

then I will amend my post to "everyone but onorgul" who weaves their own clothes from bits of recycled lawn furniture and eats nothing but paint chips...

right after you take another look at the group photo you posted and notice what everyone in it is wearing.

where did they get the furniture? it's kinda like that scene in Fight Club when he realizes everything he owns comes from pages in a magazine.... now it's an on line magazine but take a look around at everyone and tell me they don't fall for it

Even buying fresh produce is subject to marketing - positive and negative.

Reasons to buy fresh produce and locally grown stuff - it's generally healthier, and more rewarding, but also costs more (if you can't work a pot of boiling water) because you don't know how to cook or plan meals effectively.

EVERYTHING we do is basically subjected to marketing.

People advertise free activities all the time. But you gotta drive your ironically purchased smart car to get to that awesome park half way across town with all the hotties in it.

Edit:

*ahem*

That is to say, if you're going to attract women with a car, know the kind of woman you're attracting and buy accordingly.

No one has ever hooked up solely because of their Prius.
