Yes, the international sign for insulting black folk, calling someone a monkey is perhaps not racist. So why exactly do European soccer fans love it so much? Why not a penguin, a raven, an orca?

A person that misperceives a statement to be racist, is often (but not always) a racist. Intent of the speaker determines if the speaker is racist, not the listener.
