I only get that at my GF's house but thats probably because she has 5mb/s internet which makes the game unplayable except for painful soloing. but sometimes the servers do have issues where lag spikes happen. so it might of just been the server.

I stopped using a HDMI cable awhile ago and went to the blue/red/yellow cable would that affect game speed?

it shouldent have a impact on lag. it can give a bigger delay ( hardly noticeable).
unless of cause something is just broken way out of normal

Are you on wifi? My friend plays on ps3 and he had complaints about this (and only being able to load like 3 things at once) ALL the time. He swapped to a wired connection and all this stuff fixed itself.

Even on ethernet I get lag spikes from time to time, but I can't attribute it directly to the PS3, as it's usually in crowded areas.

I have similar issues. I see it mostly in Fate; my character freezes at times where he's still doing damage but no effects are shown & I sometimes die without even seeing the monster killing me lol. I also see some lag when there are tons of people around me. When using skills, they have a 3-4 second delay before going off on my screen especially in starter areas. One last thing, when a monster readies a move & you see the red circle, it will still hit me when I move out the way. I'm running a 25mbps dl connection so not sure why. x_x

Possibly just the ps3 failing at running the game properly?

It definitely taxes the PS3 hardware in areas with a lot of entities and partical effects. I notice a fair bit of latency in battlefields with a lot going on, like primals. I wish I could monitor the core temps on my PS3 because the fans run at max speed pretty much nonstop.

ffxiv doesn't require that kind of bandwidth, it requires a lot of local resources like anything with heavy graphics, but not network wise.

Unless the current cable is defective, that upgrade probably won't make a difference. The speed of the cables is mostly irrelevant for an MMO, the big bottlenecks are your hardware (PS3, modem, router) which are all basically working or not, condition of your connection (probably the main issue), and the servers that handle the game.

That's not to say that the cable couldn't be bad and that replacing it won't fix the issue, but the speed of the cable is not the issue.

Here. I do this for behemoth, odin, and svara. on pc and it really helps. I do it on ps3 if I am getting issues.

http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/1mxtzp/cant_see_fate_bosses_odin_behemoth_fix_inside/

It really helps. you can even customize what you see. I generally have everything on. but when I do huge fates I turn it to hide and then change it so i can see the hp/name of the targeted engaged mob. and keep my party members hp bars. otherwise all other characters and their pets/minions names, and floating text i turn off.

I forget what "effects while in motions" are but ya everything else really helps. read the link and love the link. Fixes issues for big fates for pc. and helps with ps3 issues but I doubt any ps3 will be able to do behemoth/odin fates even with these fixes.

Enjoy

I assume the ps4 will solve all these issues as it is much better hardware.
