Nobody ever did offer me any wooden nickles...But I did learn to appreciate good scotch... so in the end it's warmth will cradle me in death like a blanket like all my ancestors before me.... presumably.... who knows... maybe they were all abstainers... I can't remember their names let alone anything else.

Grandpa Ralph died before I was born, Grandpa Kenny died when I was six and I can't remember a single thing he ever said.

I'm not sure there has ever been a greater satirist than Frank Zappa, in part because not only did he create scathing satire of society that people didn't quite get, it was doubly poignant because he was at times also a satire of himself. Even better than Andy Kaufman, imo.

I keep seeing all these Ancestry commercials and these dopey people that have no idea who their family is or even what nationality they are or in some cases their race...
one example YouTube Video Placeholder we're a nation of foot slapping idiots dancing around in lederhosen because it's octoberfest and there is beer... then in mid march we all put on green and pretend we're irish.. so...we'll pretty much pretend to be anyone you want... if there's beer

We're not pretending anything.
We're a ridiculously young country in the grand scheme of things that's sole claim to fame is that we have no history. We're a melting pot of everyone else's rejects. So we appropriate what culture we can if it makes us feel a part of something older or greater than us. And then we drink beer to emphasize those good feelings before we remember that we're just appropriating our genetic ancestors' histories because we've got nothing of the sort here. It's technically ours, but we know we're forcing it...hence the beer.
